Admire the island scenery of the Azores and Madeira
April is an ideal time of year to cruise to the ‘floating garden’ of Madeira, when the climate is perfect for outdoor activities and the floral displays that the island is known for will be at their most spectacular. Madeira is home to the world’s largest laurel forest and Botanical Gardens where exotic indigenous plants thrive. Scattered in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores is made up of nine islands, and Ponta Delgada is the capital of the largest of these, Sao Miguel. Aptly known as ‘Green Island’, Sao Miguel is characterised by its volcanic landscapes – to the east lies geothermal Furnas Lake with its bubbling fumeroles and hot springs, while in the northwest the green and blue crater lakes of Sete Cidades are situated.
