Discover the lush scenery of São Miguel Island on this panoramic drive. Pass through the western part of Ponta Delgada via the coastal route, before arriving at Feteiras, where the road climbs to Sete Cidades. You make a stop for photographs at the extinct crater of Sete Cidades, some 1,900 feet above sea level. From the edge of the crater, eight miles in circumference, there is a fine view of the two lakes at the bottom. One is deep blue, reflecting the sky, and the other is bright green, reflecting the rich vegetation of the lush crater walls. On your return drive to Ponta Delgada, another short photo stop will be made at Carvão Belvedere.

Admire the unique crater lakes of Sete Cidades before visiting the striking Antonio Borges Botanical Garden in the heart of Ponta Delgada.

Leaving the port along the coastal road through the western part of the city, you will pass through picturesque villages before arriving at Feteiras. The route ascends towards Sete Cidades, leading to the main crater of this extinct volcano, rising 1,900 feet above sea level. From the edge of this crater, eight miles in circumference, you can enjoy a view of the twin lakes below. One shimmers a deep blue and the other glows a bright green, reflecting the rich vegetation of the lush crater walls.

Your drive continues as you return to Ponta Delgada to visit the Antonio Borges Botanical Garden. After an introduction from your guide, you are free to take a stroll at your leisure in this peaceful paradise. Discover the varied collection of European and tropical trees, and the caves and ponds that are dotted throughout the garden. Alternatively, you can relax in the entrance cafe.

Finally, return to your coach for the drive back to the port.

Please note: You will spend approximately 45 minutes at Antonio Borges Botanical Gardens. Walking here is entirely at your discretion, but you should expect to cover at least 500 yards. Views of the Crater Lakes are weather dependent.

Enjoy a panoramic exploration of Bridgetown, taking in the sights of Barbados’ capital from your tour vehicle with an informative talk throughout from your local guide. The city’s current location was established by English settlers in 1628 and is nowadays home to almost 300,000 people and the historic Bridgetown with its Garrison – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Your scenic drive will first pass by the Emancipation Statue, a bronze sculpture symbolising the breaking of the chains of slavery before you see Ilaro Court and the State House, the official residences of the Prime Minister and President of Barbados. A short stop is then made at the Richard Haynes Boardwalk in Hastings. You'll have time here to take a stroll along the boardwalk and perhaps onto the sandy beach, before returning to Bridgetown port and your awaiting ship.

Grenada is known not only for its spices; but also its natural scenery and volcanic origin, with a mountainous ridge running north and south, steeper slopes to the west and a more gradual incline to the east and southeast.

Leaving St George’s Harbour which boasts of picturesque pastel-coloured houses, continue up to Old Fort Road overlooking your cruise ship and Fort George, which leads you up to Lucas Street where a stop will be made by the new parliament building. You will have the privilege of admiring its sensational architecture along with the surrounding views.

Your next stop will be at Fort Frederick, offering a mountainous view inland. Scenery continues to impress at Morne Jaloux and Woburn where you can view Calivigny Island and some of the local fishing boats. The 1957 movie ‘Island in the Sun’ was filmed in this area.

From Point Saline, the drive continues to Quarantine Point. Several buildings were constructed here in 1892 to quarantine and isolate the victims of Smallpox, yellow fever, malaria, and other communicable diseases common in the region at the time.

Enjoy a glimpse of the scenery on offer in the north of St Lucia, beginning with a scenic drive, passing through small communities.

Your guide will introduce you to life on the island as you head towards Cap Estate at the St Lucia's northern-most point. Cap Estate is home to the island's only 18-hole golf course and some delightful coastal views. As you return south, see Pigeon Island, a national park and location of historic military ruins.

Finally, enjoy a stop at St. Marks, a colonial mansion overlooking Castries. Your guide will explain more about the history whilst you enjoy a refreshing beverage and a snack. Take in the views of Castries from the balcony before returning to your bus for the return transfer to your ship.

Please note: Most of the sightseeing on this excursion is from you tour vehicle. There is approximately 100 yards of walking at St Marks and seven steps to the entrance. This excursion may operate in reverse, visiting St Marks at the start of your tour. There may be a charge to use the public conveniences in St Lucia, so you may wish to bring a small amount of US dollars with you.

This included excursion takes you on a leisurely sightseeing drive, with three short photo stops.

Leave the port, passing Santa Catarina Park, and travel west towards the Santa Rita area, before arriving at your first photo stop offering a view of Funchal.

Your drive continues to your second photo stop at Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the coastline, surrounding hills and the city.

Next, drive southwest, passing Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque fishing village, once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Pause for a short photo at Pico da Torre viewpoint, which offers a view of the bay and the fishermen’s village below.

Having seen Funchal and its surroundings from three viewpoints, you head back to your ship.

Discover the city of Lisbon on this panoramic sightseeing tour. Leaving the port, drive past the Jerónimos Monastery, built using limestone over a period of 100 years starting in 1501; UNESCO-listed Belém Tower, constructed with the primary objective of protecting the bay; the Monument to the Discoveries; the pink façade of Belém Palace, the official residence of the Portuguese president; the new Coach Museum; Avenida da Liberdade, the most central avenue in Lisbon and a popular shopping district for both tourists and locals; and Edward VII park.

You will also cross the 25th April suspension bridge over the Tagus River to see the imposing statue of Christ the Redeemer. Stretching across the estuary to the Tagus River in Lisbon the suspension bridge is considered as a twin sister of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco because of its similar design. The bridge is an impressive sight, and it also offers a breathtaking view when crossing it. Visible from most parts of Lisbon and beyond, the statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Rei) stands a striking 270 feet high on its angular pedestal, overlooking the south bank of the Tagus River. One of Portugal’s most iconic landmarks standing tall with its robed arms outstretched, it was erected in 1959 and modelled on the famous Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro.

Then, enjoy your scenic drive back to the port.

Explore downtown Lisbon on foot on this introductory walking tour. Starting from the pier your guide will take you to the lower section of the Alfama district, through the labyrinth of narrow cobbled alleyways, passing by the Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa), which was built in the 12th century, here you will have an exterior view before continuing to Figueira and Restauradores squares on your way to Rossio, once the liveliest square in the city.

You can see the exterior of the Dona Maria National Theatre before continuing to Rua Augusta and Praça do Comércio, also known as “Black Horse Square”, named after the statue of King José I which has a central position.

Having explored the sights of downtown Lisbon you will return to your ship.

Begin with a visit to one of the island’s main pineapple plantations, where you can try locally-produced liqueurs before continuing to Ribeira Grande, the oldest and largest town on the north coast. From here, stop at Santa Iria Belvedere for dramatic views of the coast, and then continue to Pico de Ferro which overlooks the magnificent Furnas Valley.

A huge crater filled with diverse vegetation, beautiful lakes and spectacular geysers, the Furnas Valley is an integral part of local traditions and this is where people would bury sealed pots in the earth, waiting for the natural warmth to cook their meal of mixed meats and vegetables, known as ‘cozido’. Continue to the stunning Terra Nostra Gardens, an enchanting park laid out more than 200 years ago in the style of an English garden. Afterwards enjoy lunch at the adjacent Terra Nostra Casino.

After lunch, visit the extraordinary Hot Springs, where no fewer than 23 mineral springs spout boiling water into a sulphur-laden atmosphere. On your return drive to Ponta Delgada, pass through the island's former capital, Vila Franca Do Campo, now one of the principal tourist centres of the Azorean Archipelago.

Please note: There is approximately 200 yards of walking over uneven terrain at the Hot Springs. The walks in Ribeira Grande and through the Terra Nostra Park are both optional and each involves a further walk of approximately 500 yards, which is partly over cobbles and uneven terrain. Anyone not wishing to join the walk at Terra Nostra Park can wait in the hotel lobby, which has a shop and wc facilities.

Please bring swimwear and a towel, we recommend wearing and easily removable footwear, such as flip-flops too if you would like to swim in the thermal pool. Changing rooms are available. The water in the thermal pool can dye swimwear, therefore it is not recommended to wear your best. Views will vary according to the weather. Dietary requests must be advised to the Explore Ashore Team on board ship at least 72 hours prior to arrival.

Furnas Valley was once a huge volcanic crater which erupted in 1630. Today, it is an oasis of lush greenery, showcasing both exotic and native flora. On this tour, pass into the volcanic landscape towards the largest botanical garden in the Azores – Park Terra Nostra, an area made popular by the health properties contained within the mineral water here. Here, a short walking tour will allow you to appreciate the wide range of plants that grow in the volcanic soil and for those who wish, there will be an opportunity to swim in the thermal warm water pool.

Continue towards the Caldeiras: an area still experiencing volcanic phenomena today (many restaurants in the area choose to cook their meals using the volcanic heat). Leaving the valley behind, continue north, past an abundance of impressive views across seemingly inaccessible landscape before arriving at the oldest tea garden in Europe – Chá Gorrean. Here, learn the process of tea production by visiting the factory and museum (which displays machinery from the 19th century), before enjoying a cup of cha (tea) for yourself and a slice of homemade pineapple cake. Leaving the tea garden, enjoy a scenic drive back to your ship.

Take in São Miguel's flora and fauna on this active excursion.

Begin with a drive from west to east across São Miguel Island to Furnas Valley. This is where your walk begins. This is one of the richest hydrological areas in Europe, boasting 22 thermal springs. Walking on unpaved roads and trails, you will pass through dense and lush vegetation to arrive at beautiful viewpoints along the way.

The scent of sulphur mingles with the perfume of flowers, and the cold, transparent waters of the streams mix with the boiling water, made golden by the iron contained within. The land surrounding Furnas Lake is dominated by farms, pastures and the great slopes of the volcanic crater. Fields are edged with Japanese red cedars, hydrangeas and the kahiki ginger.

Finally you reach Furnas Hot Springs, an area of diverse volcanic activity where water and mud geysers spout and boil. From the Hot Springs you will return by coach to Ponta Delgada.

Please note: Expect to walk up to two miles during this excursion, some of which will be on uneven paths and up gentle slopes. No refreshments are served during this excursion and we recommend bringing your own.

Enjoy a scenic drive through Ponta Delgada and across the island to Ribeira Grande, the oldest and largest town on the north coast, with a strong Portuguese influence. Here you will have time to explore the town square and church with a guide, or do some independent sightseeing.

Continue along the mountain roads to Pico Da Barrosa Mountain where you can see breathtaking views of Fire Lake, which is set in a volcanic crater and said to be one of the most beautiful on the island.

Your return journey to Ponta Delgada takes you towards Remedios in the south via Lagoa and a pineapple plantation, where you can sample the pineapple liqueur.

Please note: There is approximately 120 yards walking at the pineapple plantation. For those passengers wishing to explore Ribeira Grande with the guide there is a further 600 yards of walking. You are advised to bring a warm jumper as it can get cold in the mountains. Views will vary according to the weather.

Climb onto a 4x4 vehicle and head off-road, along old tracks and crossing small streams, before pausing to relax beside the crystal-clear waters. You will discover the island of São Miguel with vehicles well suited to its terrain, discovering unusual panoramas and an unspoilt wilderness far away from the city.

The rugged mountains are covered by indigenous trees, hydrangeas and other types of vegetation that contrast with the soft green valleys below with their sparkling streams and small villages. You can see how the locals live and work the rich farmland in communion with nature.

Please note: This tour involves approximately three-quarters-of-a-mile of walking, and a certain degree of agility is required in order to climb on board the jeeps. The four-wheel drive ride is unsuitable if you have back or neck problems owing to the very bumpy terrain, and these vehicles have no handrails or space to store wheelchairs. The standard of vehicle may vary by make and model, some having steep access steps and no seat belts.

Explore Antigua’s colourful past and present on a short introductory tour that travels from the island’s quaint northern capital, St John’s, through rainforest and along to white sand beaches on the south-west coast. In St John’s you will pass the city’s cathedral, built in 1845, and the Antigua Recreational Ground, location of several world test cricket records.

Leaving the capital behind, pass the old sugar factory, the new Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium and on to the pink-hued Tyrell’s Baptist Church. Continue along Fig Tree Drive, which cuts through the centre of Antigua, passing through the rainforest. There will be photo opportunities en route as your journey continues along the coastal road back into St John’s with views of the Caribbean Sea and numerous white sand beaches.

Explore Antigua's historic Nelson's Dockyard, which has been carefully restored, and take a small boat ride out into English Harbour.

Begin the tour with a drive through Antigua’s countryside, rich in daily West Indian life, local villages, and old churches that exemplify West Indian culture. You’ll then pass by the view of Falmouth Harbour, through to the English Harbour and into Nelson’s Dockyard.

Built in 1725, the dockyard served as the base for the English naval squadron patrolling the West Indies. As you enter this historic park, also known as the only working Georgian dockyard in the world, you’ll join a short, informative walking tour to see the restored buildings and detailed plaques.

Then it's time to experience the Dockyard from the water as you step onboard a small boat for a ride around English Harbour. Your expert guide will share stories and anecdotes during the boat trip. Keep your eyes peeled for the Pillars of Hercules, a geological formation carved out by the elements over centuries.

Afterwards, enjoy a complimentary rum or fruit punch and take some free time to explore the dockyard’s museum, art gallery, gift shop, and floating yachts. Your waiting tour vehicle will then take you on route back north through Antiguan villages on your return drive to St John’s.

Your boat trip is aboard a small, converted lifeboat with wooden bench seating. The boat has a sun awning and there will be a steep step to embark and disembark.

Step on board a sleek sailing catamaran where you will be met by your knowledgeable guide and crew. From here you will embark on a boat ride to the fabulous Cades Reef just off the south-west coast, one of Antigua’s best locations for snorkelling.

En route your catamaran will hug the coastline, passing Deep Bay, Fort Barrington, Ffryres Beach, Valley Church, Jolly Harbour and many secluded beaches. Once at Cades Reef, you will have the opportunity to take a tuition in snorkelling before you are invited to put on your mask, fins and buoyancy belt and go snorkelling accompanied with expert guides in the crystal-clear waters! Alternatively, you can simply take a swim or relax and soak up the sun on board the boat.

Afterwards you can enjoy a refreshing rum punch or soft drinks before being taken to a beach where you can relax or take a stroll. A Caribbean buffet is served, consisting of baked chicken or fish, rice and peas, green salad, macaroni cheese pie, local vegetables and garlic bread. Your catamaran returns to St John’s along the Antiguan south-west coastline.

Please note: Snorkelling is only recommended for those with previous experience and excellent physical fitness. Whilst this excursion involves limited walking, it has been graded as moderate due to the opportunities for swimming. If you choose to partake in snorkelling this excursion should be considered strenuous. There are steps onboard the catamaran to access the WC facilities.

Spend the day relaxing at the Ocean Point Beach Resort. A short transfer will take you from the ship to this Caribbean hideaway, designed in a Mediterranean style in Hodges Bay. The hotel boasts two secluded sandy beaches, where you can spend time at your leisure lounging in the sun or taking a dip in their expansive swimming pool. Throughout your stay, you'll have access to a sun chair and umbrella, and you'll be greeted with a welcome rum or fruit punch cocktail.

Enjoy lunch in the Sottovento Beach Club, the beachfront restaurant and bar – a short stroll from the sea. The menu offers an Italian fusion crafted from local fresh ingredients, including fish, seafood, vegetables, fruits, and salads. A glass of wine or a beer and mineral water will be served too.

After, there’s more time to savour your leisurely day in Antigua. Why not stroll along the sandy beach and take souvenir photographs before returning to the ship?

Visit a privately-owned island and animal sanctuary on a day of relaxation, with the opportunity to meet the inhabitants.

You will be met at the pier by your professional tour guide who will stay with you all day. Depart by minibus and travel to the village of Seatons. From here, a short speedboat ride will take you to ‘Stingray City’, a shallow pool with a white sand bottom surrounded by coral reef in the Caribbean Sea. You will have the opportunity to stand or swim with the stingrays. After feeding the stingrays, snorkelling and taking some photos, you will take a short boat ride to Laviscount Island. On arrival, take some time to relax on this friendly, family-run island. There is a bar open all day where you can enjoy beers, rum punch, rum, coke, fruit punch, water and soft drinks. The clear waters surrounded by mangroves are great for swimming and snorkelling. Or you can simply soak up the sun from your sun chair, with shade available.

Perhaps take a short hike up the little hillside with its wild flowers, onto the grassy top, and down the other side to see the unusual ‘moonscape’, where sea birds perch, with rock pools, blow holes, and more. The island also serves as an animal sanctuary and rehabilitation centre, and you can interact with and learn about the giant Aldabra Tortoise. The sanctuary is home to over 50 of these prehistoric animals. You may also see the Lesser Antilles Iguanas; nearly extinct for many years, they are slowly being reintroduced to the island.

A Caribbean buffet lunch is served with a choice of chicken or baked fish, served with potato salad, rice, salad and bread. Following some time to relax after lunch, it will be time to return by boat to Antigua’s mainland for the drive back to your ship.

Pass by everyday picturesque village life and through rolling hillscapes to English Harbour, including the famed Nelson’s Dockyard, and Shirley Height’s Lookout.

At the dockyard you will be met by your National Park’s Guide who will lead you on a short, informative walking tour through the dockyard with its beautifully restored buildings, detailed plaques, and many points of interest. Continue up to the former signal station, Shirley Heights Lookout, for a picture-perfect view of Nelson's Dockyard and the entire breadth of English Harbour.

Your waiting tour vehicle will then take you on a relaxing drive to one of Antigua’s famed white sand beaches for a complimentary and refreshing rum or fruit punch with time to relax in your reserved sun chair. There will be a Caribbean lunch served here of baked chicken or fish, rice and peas, green salad, pasta salad and local vegetables. Then simply relax or stroll along the beach or take a ‘cool down’ swim in the Caribbean Sea, before continuing your journey back to St John’s.

Paddle your way through mangroves and lagoons, enjoying the clear waters of Antigua during a kayaking expedition. Depart from the pier for a 30-minute drive to the island's pristine east coast. From the kayak base, a brief motorboat journey will take you to a hidden lagoon. After safety instructions, experienced guides lead you on an hour-long kayak adventure past mangroves, coves and compact islands.

Returning to the lagoon, board the motorboat for a 15-minute coastal ride through uninhabited islands to a prime snorkel site. Your guides will equip you with snorkelling equipment and point out where you’ll likely see the most fish species. If you’d prefer not to snorkel, you can relax on the shore, explore the island, or swim in the shallows at the beach. Conclude your experience with a rum punch and refreshments before returning to the ship.

This excursion offers the chance to experience Stingray City, located in the clear waters near the barrier reef on Antigua's Eastern Atlantic coast. Southern stingrays have lived in these waters since the Caribbean archipelago’s formation.

Your journey begins with a short boat ride from the village of Seatons through the scenic mangrove islands on the coast. At Stingray City you will learn all about these aquatic creatures from your knowledgeable guide. There’s also the chance to pet and feed these gentle stingrays in their natural environment. Then there’s time to snorkel among the colourful marine life of the vibrant coral reef.

After, enjoy a glass of rum punch or a soft drink. Optionally, you can purchase photographs of your stingray encounter before returning to the ship.

Please note: There is essential walking of approximately 300 yards in total, some of which are on a slight incline. There is also a short ladder to enter and exit the water. A good level of mobility and strong swimming ability is required to take part and all activities in the sea are undertaken at your own risk. The transfer from the ship to Stingray City involves a journey by mini bus that takes around 30 minutes. Changing facilities at Stingray City are limited, so it is recommended that you wear your swimsuit under your clothes. Credit cards and US dollars are accepted if you wish to purchase photos or souvenirs at Stingray City.

A fitting end to your day in Antigua, sail on a modern catamaran whilst the sun goes down and cruise along the scenic northwest coast.

This adventure begins as you meet your guide at the ship who will then escort you a few yards to your awaiting 60-foot catamaran; this is where your welcoming crew awaits you. You’ll travel by open-air safari bus or closed coach, which will take you through the island’s capital of Road Town and past Paraquitta Bay, as you head for the scenic Ridge Road. Take in vistas of tiny hamlets such as Manchester and Long Trench, and views of the surrounding countryside.

Next head for the entrance to the Sage Mountain National Park. Established in 1964 this park takes its name from the island’s highest mountain, its reforestation sitting alongside existing Caribbean rainforest.

Dust off your walking boots and explore the Sage Mountain National Park on this hiking excursion that starts with a scenic drive along Tortola’s Ridge Road. Running along what is roughly the centre of the island, the road provides views of the surrounding countryside as you head for the Sage Mountain National Park.

Established in 1964, the park is named after the 1,716-foot high Sage Mountain that lies within it, although most of the park sits above 1,000 feet. Created to preserve what was left of mahogany and other indigenous trees (previously cut for timber and to free up land), the park is home to bird and plant species, a small area of what remains of the original forest and replanted trees.

Enjoy a challenging but rewarding one-and-a-half-mile hike along one of the park’s forest trails in the company of your guide. Learn about local trees and plants before stopping for an included drink.

Afterwards, your tour will continue to Cane Garden Beach. Spend an hour at this beach situated in a sheltered, curving bay where a chair and umbrella will be waiting for you, before heading back to your ship.

While most of the British Virgin Islands were volcanically produced, the mammoth-sized granite boulders on the island of Virgin Gorda were created by the simple process of erosion. They loom above crystal-clear waters and sink into the soft sand, occasionally forming long, mystical caves or becoming covered by coral reefs where fish can swim freely through.

After a 40-minute cruise along the Sir Francis Drake Channel, you can absorb the baths for yourself. Upon arrival, perhaps roam through the intricate network of trails and boulders to discover hidden caves and sea pools; there’s also the opportunity to go for a swim.

Afterwards, it’s time to board your boat and journey back to the ship. A refreshing beverage will also be served during this return boat trip.

Begin with a journey to Bloody River, an eerie site where in 1626 over 2,000 ‘Caribs’ were massacred by the English and French during the colonial struggle for the island. He is credited with establishing the first English colony in the Caribbean.

Continue to Brimstone Hill Fortress, a well-preserved example of 17th-18th-century military architecture. Gaze across its angular battlements and explore the fortress that was a feat of British engineering, built by African slave labour. A short transfer takes you from the cruise terminal to Cockleshell Bay Beach, situated on the southern coast of St Kitts island. The beautiful golden sands are unsurprisingly popular with locals and visitors alike. On arrival, you will be shown to your reserved beach chair and you are free to spend the time here as you choose.

Take a stroll along the secluded, mile-long curve of shoreline or enjoy a dip in the clear waters. Visit the Spice Mill Restaurant to enjoy a complimentary refreshing fruit punch. Further drinks or food are available for purchase with cash and card payments accepted. From your beach chair, take in views of Nevis Island, with its emerald mountains looming on the horizon.

Before long, it is time to return to Basseterre and your ship.

After a short drive, you will arrive at Fairview Great House, a restored estate built at the turn of the 18th century and set among two acres of botanical gardens. You may have tasted the vibrant flavours of West Indian cooking before, but do you know the stories behind the dishes, or the origin of their ingredients?

Enjoy a cooking demonstration showcasing authentic regional recipes. As ingredients are added, your host will share insights into the history of these regional specialities and talk about the development of dishes combining African, European and Indian cooking methods.

Afterwards, enjoy sampling the dishes along with a homemade refreshment. The menu on the day will depend on seasonal availability, but may include fresh ginger juice, creole fish in tomato broth, jerked pork loin and coconut bread pudding.

See the house in which Hamilton was born in 1755 (or 1777, depending on which historical record you trust) before continuing your drive through Charlestown to a collection of naturally occurring hot bathing springs once enjoyed by several prominent members of British aristocracy. Continue to the nearby artisan village.

Afterwards, your journey continues to the St Thomas Anglican Church, followed by a wellearned opportunity to relax on Pinney's Beach. A sun chair and shared umbrella is provided here and a rustic Caribbean buffet lunch is served, with two drinks included.

Begin with a scenic drive from Basseterre port, tracing the southern coast and passing through quaint villages and local communities. Arriving at Romney Manor – a modest estate with roots dating back to the 17th century – you will find yourself surrounded by a lush botanical garden. Here, you will find Caribelle Batik, where unique fabric products are created using ancient methods. The intricate designs are created using a dyeing technique, originally developed in Indonesia.

Step behind the scenes where skilled artisans will guide you through the intricate process of creating these vibrant designs; you will gain a hands-on experience and explore your creativity by designing your very own Batik masterpiece to take home.

Depart from the cruise pier for a scenic drive to discover Martinique’s south coast.

You will pass the small fishing village of Petite Anse where you will hear about the unique fishing technique used locally. Then continue to the Anse Cafard Memorial on the shores of Le Diamant – a sobering commemoration to the tens of thousands of enslaved Africans who were taken to Martinique during the transatlantic slave trade.

You will also enjoy views of the Diamond rock, a 574 feet high basalt island which takes its name from the shimmering reflections cast on its sides at certain magical hours of the day. Due to its strategic position, the rock was used to station Royal Navy cannons during the Napoleonic wars.

Continue to La Pagerie Museum in Trois Ilets. This picturesque stone building and former sugar estate was the birthplace of Josephine Bonaparte, and where she spent the first 16 years of her life. A guided tour here will provide an insight into her early years and life in Martinique during the 18th century.

In 1902 a volcanic eruption destroyed the town and resulted in the deaths of approximately 30,000 people. You will visit the museum which tells the story of the tragedy and you’ll also get to discover some of the ruins that remain.

Next, you will visit the Depaz rum distillery for a guided introduction to the process of rum production. Martinique Rum has a Protected Destination of Origin status, which has created strict guidelines to ensure its production adheres to high-level procedures and renowned sugarcane varieties. After your tour of the site, perhaps browse the shop and enjoy a small sample of this unique product. Returning to your tour vehicle, you will then travel through the verdant vistas of the rainforest to La Chaudière restaurant where a traditional lunch will be served, combining a mix of Creole and French flavours.

Following your relaxing lunch, continue to the Balata Garden – a private garden built in 1982 by Mr Jean Philippe Thoze, a botanical and landscape gardener. Enjoy a walk under the trees and discover a multitude of botanical plants and flowers; you will also have the opportunity to see the views from above, with a walk along a treetop trail of suspended walkways.

Board your sightseeing vessel, Aquarius and sail across Fort-de-France Bay. The Bay is known to the French as ‘Baie des Flamands’ after a community of Flemish Jews were banned from Brazil in the 17th century and settled here.

First, a delicious non-alcoholic fruit punch will be served on board as you admire the coastline. You will soon arrive at the beach and fishing village of Anse Dufour.

Your boat will anchor close to the beach and you can choose to take a swim or make use of the onboard snorkelling equipment. Then continue to your second location, the Bat Cave, where under the guidance of staff, you can choose to go snorkelling again to discover the underwater life. You can of course, choose to remain onboard the boat and relax.

Formerly known as ‘Fort Royal’, Fort-de-France is the administrative capital of Martinique and has a surprisingly out-of-place connection with Paris: as you pass through the city and out into the green rolling hills beyond, you will stumble across what appears to be the French city’s famous Sacred Heart Basilica. It is in fact a smaller scale replica of the building and took just one year to build (1924-1925), rather than the original’s 40 years! 

Located high on the hill, you can enjoy views across Fort de France, the bay and beyond before continuing to your next destination: Balata Botanical Gardens. They were opened in 1982 and were the brainchild of horticulturist and landscape designer Jean-Philippe Thoze. The gardens were built around a typical ‘Creole’ house and are described as being ‘animated by creativity’. 

Step out along the treetop walkway for a bird’s eye perspective and admire the array of rattling bamboo, hummingbirds and dramatic vistas. It is then time to return to your ship, having perhaps captured some of the area’s natural or architectural majesty on your camera.

Taste the flavours of Martinique, beginning with a scenic drive from Fort de France to the Trois Rivières distillery museum in the island's southwestern region. Established in 1660, Trois Rivières distillery takes its name from the three rivers that border the 120-hectare site. Enjoy a tour of the site with your guide and learn about the history and the rum-making traditions of Martinique. Rhum Agricole is a style of rum originally distilled in the French Caribbean islands from freshly squeezed sugarcane. Prisca is one of Martinique’s most renowned chefs, also working as a food blogger and television presenter alongside running her restaurant and cookery workshops. Begin your excursion by journeying inland to visit Orchid World and Tropical Gardens. The site is surrounded by a spectacular array of treasures nestled between the sugarcane fields. Continue to Sunbury House Plantation that dates to 1650. The house was destroyed by fire in 1995 and was gracefully restored and re-opened a year later. It possesses one of the country's most impressive collections of antiques. Harrison's Cave is a magnificent natural phenomenon. Formed from a particularly beautiful type of crystallized limestone, this stunning cavern is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the entire Caribbean. It was first recorded in 1796, but it then lay undisturbed until it was rediscovered in 1970 by Ole Sorenson and developed by the Government of Barbados.

After checking in at the Visitors’ Centre, you descend from the cliff onto the valley floor via a glass elevator. Once on the valley floor you enter an interactive centre and are then taken into a theatre where you watch a short film on the formation of Barbados.

Then you board the electric tram that takes you down into the cave. As the driver pulls away, your guide will commence the commentary and you are on your way to a memorable experience - magnificent chambers, incredible stalactites and stalagmites and emerald pools. In many places the stalactites and stalagmites have joined to form spectacular pillars.

At various points the tram stops to allow passengers to disembark and have a closer look at the beauty at hand.

Discover St Nicholas Abbey, a plantation house, museum and rum distillery with a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Departing from Bridgetown port, begin with a leisurely drive along the famous Platinum Coast known for its lavish hotels and wealthy residents on your way to St Nicholas Abbey. A stately home rather than a religious institution, the abbey is one of the island’s oldest plantations and one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere. After your tour of the house and distillery, step on board the heritage railway for a short journey through the grounds of the plantation. Begin with a scenic drive through the historical capital of Bridgetown, passing landmarks including Barbados’ Parliament Buildings and Heroes Square. Then arrive at Carlisle Bay, home to some of the island’s finest beaches and a natural harbour. Enjoy a welcome cocktail from your hosts, followed by roughly three hours of leisurely beach time. Continue to De La Grenade Industries, a leading food processing company in Grenada, which manufactures products such as nutmeg jam, jelly, syrups and liquor – using a 200-year-old recipe. Board your comfortable catamaran and sail around the Carenage before heading north along Grenada’s west coast to Molinere Sculpture Park. Here you will have the opportunity to try out snorkelling with guidance from your expert crew and experience the breathtaking underwater world of the Caribbean Sea.

Molinere Sculpture Park was created in 2006 by British sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor as the world's first underwater sculpture park. It consists of concrete figures secured to the ocean floor, providing a unique snorkelling experience.

Afterwards, you will head to a beach where you can choose to swim or simply relax and enjoy the surroundings. Rum punch and soft drinks will be served on board your catamaran before making your way back to St George’s.

Enjoy a unique view of St Lucia's lush rain forest from an open-air gondola ride high above the canopy.

Meet your guide at the cruise pier for a scenic drive to Rainforest Adventures, where you will board your eight-person aerial tram. Then ascend into the island's forest sanctuary, rising to the heights where gommier, chatannier, and various other tree species stand, close enough to reach out and touch as you gently drift along.

A nature guide will be on hand to describe these lush surroundings, pointing out giant ferns, bright heliconia and the buttress-like root systems that support the forest. You might spot hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower and yellow-bellied bananaquits taking wing. Keep your ears open for the call of parrots and your eyes peeled for their vibrant plumage. As you descend back to the station, admire the sweeping green vistas of the North Island.

Disembark the gondola and enjoy some time to visit the fern trail and hummingbird garden or browse the gift shop.

Visit a working fruit farm to taste some of the fresh produce grown here alongside some St Lucian specialties.

Your tour begins with a drive to the Tropical Healthy Farms, located in St Lucia’s Roseau Valley, just about seven miles south of Castries. On arrival, take some time to stroll through the farm before picking and tasting fresh fruit such as golden apples, guavas and bilimbi. You’ll also experience coconut picking and a cutting demonstration, ready to enjoy refreshing coconut water or the crowd's favourite: coconut soak in local rum.

When it’s time to taste some more local treats, you can look forward to golden apple sauce which is prepared with local seasonings and hot peppers. Your farmer will then host a demonstration of the cutting and harvesting of bananas, explaining the differences between the banana and plantain as he selects, washes and packages them up.

Then get ready to sample the national dish of St Lucia, which is made up of green bananas and saltfish, served with cucumber salad and fried plantains. A variety of local juices are also served before the chance to taste a few of the locally produced rums. There’s also time to purchase a bottle to take home with you, including some of the other items produced here.

Leaving the port, drive through Castries to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and walk through this Catholic cathedral to admire the murals. From here, take a short walk to Derek Walcott Square to rejoin your coach for a drive to the Morne Viewpoint above Castries Harbour. After stopping here for photos, drive through the Cul De Sac Valley to Marigot Bay Viewpoint to marvel at one of the Caribbean's most beautiful bays.

A scenic drive then takes you through the villages of Anse La Raye and Canaries to Horizons, where you stop for photographs before heading to the Diamond Botanical Gardens at Soufriere for a guided tour. Leaving the gardens, a short drive brings you to the Sulphur Springs - the only drive-in volcano in the world! Your coach takes you right into the volcano's crater where your guide will point out the bubbling pools of sulphur. Continue to Morne Coubaril Estate for a rustic Creole buffet lunch, accompanied by a local 'Chak Chak' band and Quadrille dancers. The island of St Lucia is a hive of history and culture waiting for your exploration. Throughout colonial warfare, it changed hands no less than seven times and today its locals endeavour to preserve their crafting traditions.

Begin delving into this treasure trove of wonder by journeying to the top of the ‘Morne Fortune’, meaning ‘Good Luck Hill’. While its name is not particularly apt – British and French forces clashed bloodily on the site several times.

After absorbing views across the harbour from the top, you then drive to ‘Eudovic’s Art Studio’ where Vincent Joseph Eudovic and his team have been carving wooden sculptures longer than anyone else on the island. The studio was established in 1975 and during your visit you will be treated to a spectacle of crafting using mahogany, teak, red and white cedar before an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

Finally, visit ‘Fond Latisab Creole Park’ to meet your cultural specialist. Enjoy a demonstration of ‘Cassava’ bread making and sample the end product before watching the traditional method of wood carving, accompanied by the rhythm of a traditional ‘Chak Chak’ band. Return to the ship, having immersed yourself in the island’s cultural traditions.

Pause at one of the island's bays, perhaps taking the opportunity for a swim before your journey continues to the Pitons.

On arrival, take some time to enjoy the iconic view of St Lucia’s twin peaks, the most photographed landmark on the island. After circling the bay, head Northbound and sail into Marigot Bay, a marina on the islands west coast. During your cruise, you will be served a rum punch, beer or soft drink and a rustic buffet lunch.

After a short transfer to the marina, there will be a briefing before your adventure begins; then set off on your RIB, fully equipped for observing a variety of marine life. Thanks to lookouts on land who will guide your boat towards the mammals, which may include Short-finned Pilot Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Common Dolphins that often leap from the water displaying their acrobatic moves as they swim alongside the boats.

If you are lucky, you may also spot a Risso’s Dolphin, a Beaked Whale or an Orca, all of which are occasional visitors to Madeira.

Monte’s 18th-century, twin towered church is one of the area’s most prominent landmarks. In the centre of the high altar of the church stands the statue of Our Lady of Monte, credited with being the source of many miracles. Make your way to the cable car station in Monte and take a short ride to the botanical gardens.

Along the way, enjoy the view across the Valley of João Gomes River before reaching the gardens, located on the eastern edge of Funchal and known as one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens. Follow the course of The Levadas and admire the mountain scenery and green farmland that cover Madeira.

Following a ‘Levada’ trail is one of the most enjoyable ways of exploring Madeira. These irrigation channels were created in the 19th century by the Portuguese settlers, who painstakingly carved them out of the rock by hand. Designed to carry fresh water from the north to the drier southern regions of the island, they helped to create many of the lush landscapes that can be seen today.

This guided walk will follow the course of The Levadas for approximately three-and-a-half miles, allowing you to admire the verdant plants, mountain views and Madeiran farmland. Your tour begins with a drive to Vale Paraiso, where you set off for your two-hour walk. The first half will be a gentle stroll over fairly level ground, rising to the Camacha area for its surrounding views. The second stretch will take you all the way to Rochão, where you rejoin the coach for the return journey to the port.

Next, the drive continues inland through the mountains to Eira do Serrado. After admiring the scenic view at Eira do Serrado, head to Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view over Funchal, the coastline, and the surrounding hills.

Lisbon’s vintage trams are among the city’s most iconic sights, and this tour includes a ride on one of these historic vehicles. A coach will take you into the heart of the city where you will board a traditional wooden-bodied tram for a scenic one-hour journey through Alfama and Bairro Alto, two of the oldest districts of the city, which are characterised by winding alleyways and whitewashed houses.

Within the depths of Lisbon’s old quarters, narrow cobbled streets weave their way past cafes and bars, leading to several landmarks which you’ll see during this tour. The areas are often inaccessible to cars and buses, however, there is one mode of transport that is well-equipped for this sightseeing exploration – the ‘tuk tuk’.

Climb aboard your miniature tour vehicle, accompanied by your driver guide. Pass through Bairro Alta and the district known as Alfama before arriving at the Nossa Senhora do Monte viewpoint. Near St George’s Castle, it offers a sweeping view of the city below.

Within the depths of Lisbon’s old quarters, narrow cobbled streets weave their way past cafes and bars, leading to several landmarks which you’ll see during this tour. The areas are often inaccessible to cars and buses, however, there is one mode of transport that is well-equipped for this sightseeing exploration – the ‘tuk tuk’.

Climb aboard your miniature tour vehicle, accompanied by your driver guide. Pass through Bairro Alta and the district known as Alfama before arriving at the Nossa Senhora do Monte viewpoint. Near St George’s Castle, it offers a sweeping view of the city below.

The tour continues through the city’s steep and narrow, historic streets. There is a brief stop at Chiado in the centre of Lisbon, an elegant and bohemian neighbourhood, between Bairro Alto and Baixa Pombalina. It is frequently compared to Paris’ Montmartre district, rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire in 1998. The most famous streets are Rua do Carmo, which houses the ruins of a church by the same name and Rua Garrett, in the centre of Chiado. See the square and its surrounding streets, packed with cafes, theatres and museums.

Then, enjoy a traditional snack of marmalade and cheese paired with a glass of port before returning to the ship.

Visit the charming town of Sintra, where you can admire many stunning buildings and works of art.

The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on account of its 19th-century romantic architecture. On arrival you will visit Sintra National Palace, also known as Palácio da Vila, famous for its magnificent painted ceilings. The palace is the only survivor of the country's Royal Halls, dating from the Middle Ages. One of the highlights is its kitchen, complete with huge 110-feet high conical chimneys.

After your visit to the palace, stop for refreshments, and then enjoy free time to explore on your own. The town has retained much of its medieval layout, with labyrinthine streets, flights of steps and arcaded buildings. On your return journey to the ship you will follow a section of the scenic ocean road, and pass the Belém district with its famous tower.

Please note: During the visit to Sintra Palace there will be one hour of standing and essential walking covering approximately 550 yards. There are approximately 120 steps and a winding staircase inside the palace. Walking during time at leisure is at your discretion, but please note Sintra Town has cobbled streets, steps and inclines. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. Guests must be physically fit to participate on this tour.

The drive to Sintra will take approximately one hour, the return drive to the ship will take one-and-a-half hours. You will have approximately one hour at the Sintra National Palace, followed by one-and-a-half hours of free time.

Leaving the port, your journey by coach takes you over the 25th April bridge and on a scenic drive to Sesimbra, an old fishing village which lies at the foothills of the Serra da Arrábida mountain range. The village is lined with traditional whitewashed houses, overlooked by Sesimbra’s Moorish Castle.

Enjoy an exterior visit of the castle for approximately 30 minutes before the tour continues by coach to Azeitão. Azeitão is located in the nature reserve of the Serra da Arrábida and is known for its tasty regional products. During your time in the area, you will visit one of the local wine cellars and have the opportunity to taste the Moscatel wines.

The tour concludes with a scenic drive through Arrábida Natural park before returning to the ship.

Please note: This tour includes two visits: one to the exterior of Sesimbra Castle, where walking is over uneven ground, but is at your discretion, and the second is to a winery, where 350 yards of essential walking is required over uneven ground with up to 40 steps. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes.

The order of sights may vary. The drive to Sesimbra Castle will take approximately one hour. The return drive to the ship will take approximately two hours. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.
