Enjoy a snapshot tour of Cádiz. Since the end of the 15th century, the ancient city of Cádiz has provided a gateway to the New World. Throughout this panoramic tour, you will see several sights from the coach including the cathedral, historic city walls and Puerta de Tierra. You will also see some of the settlements surrounding Cádiz, such as San Fernando and Puerto Real, before returning to the port.

Take a stroll through Cádiz on this introductory walking tour to see some of the city’s highlights. Begin your walking tour from the pier, where you set off on foot through the city’s maze of narrow lanes. First, visit San Juan de Dios Square, nestled in the heart of the historic centre.

Then continue to Cathedral Square to admire the exterior view of Cádiz Cathedral. From here, continue walking until you arrive outside the Roman Theatre – the second largest of its kind built by the Romans in Spain. Next, walk to the atmospheric El Pópulo Quarter and on to the vibrant Flower Square.

As the guided walk concludes, you can choose to return to the ship or remain in the old town to explore at leisure, making your own way back to the ship.

Take a drive around the rock of Gibraltar.

You start the tour by heading towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point, and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Here, alight from your tour vehicle to photograph the world's busiest shipping lane, the meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and two continents. Next, drive past Princess Caroline's Battery to Winston Churchill Avenue for a short stop at the road which crosses the runway of Gibraltar International Airport. Afterwards, you return to the ship.

The duration of this tour is dependent on traffic. Any type of wheelchairs, scooters or foldable walkers are not permitted on the buses. Discover the iconic Rock of Gibraltar and explore the remarkable St Michael’s Cave.

Depart the port and drive past the airport towards the British–Spanish frontier before continuing to Europa Point, Gibraltar’s southernmost tip and home to the only Trinity Lighthouse located outside Great Britain. There will be a chance to pause here to take in the panoramic views.

Next, continue up to the Upper Rock to visit St Michael’s Cave, which has recently benefited from a two-million-pound transformation. Here you can marvel at the formations of stalactites and stalagmites that fill this natural wonder. Your journey then takes you to King Charles V Wall, where you may encounter Gibraltar’s famous Barbary apes, before returning to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk 350 yards on this excursion. At Europa Point the ground will be flat with up to three steps. The are 75 steps to negotiate at St Michael's Cave. We recommend that you wear non-slip shoes as some areas of the cave, such as the steps, can be slippery with dim lighting. We have graded this excursion based on the number of steps you will need to negotiate inside the caves. This tour requires a good level of fitness and mobility. Lighting in the cave is dim and coloured for effect.

Enjoy a snapshot tour of Lanzarote to see Teguise, Caleta Famara Beach and Aloe Vera Farm.

Travel from the pier inland to the historic town of Teguise, founded in the 15th century by the Conquistadores. Admire the beautifully restored houses and picturesque square during a short stop. Next, continue to Caleta Famara Beach, which Lanzarote artist César Manrique frequented as a child. A short photo stop will be made here.

Next, the drive takes you through the charming, typical Canarian villages of Soo, La Santa, Tinajo, Tiagua, and Mozaga. You will then pass through the La Geria wine region, famous for its unique, ash-covered landscape where grapevines are grown in volcanic hollows.

Your final stop is at an Aloe Vera Farm, where you will have approximately 30 minutes to learn about the island's celebrated Aloe Vera, which thrives in Lanzarote's volcanic soil and is used in numerous ways. After your farm visit, you will return directly to the ship.

There is up to 200 yards of essential walking on this tour, any further walking is at your discretion. There are 10 steps to negotiate at the Aloe Vera Farm. Explore Puerto Del Carmen at your own pace.

Travel south to Puerto del Carmen, a popular seaside resort. You will have approximately three hours of free time to explore at leisure; perhaps take the opportunity to settle down in one of the cafes on the seafront promenade or perhaps browse the shops for souvenirs. After your visit, meet at the designated meeting point for your return transfer to the port.

Additional Information

Please note: This is a transfer to Puerto Del Carmen and is unguided. An escort will accompany you on the coach journey only, with no commentary. You will have approximately three hours of free time to explore independently. Walking is at your discretion, but this excursion has been graded as moderate based on a good exploration and time spent in of Puerto Del Carmen. The drop off location is Centro Commercial Atlántico. The drive to/from Puerto Del Carmen will take approximately 30 minutes each way.

Take a snapshot tour from Funchal, with three photo stops.

Leave the port, passing Santa Catarina Park, and travel west towards the Santa Rita area, before arriving at your first photo stop offering a view of Funchal. Your drive continues to your second photo stop at Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the coastline, surrounding hills and the city. Next, drive southwest, passing Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque fishing village, once painted by Sir Winston Churchill.

Pause for a photo at Pico da Torre viewpoint, which offers a window onto the bay and fishermen’s village below. Having seen Funchal and its surroundings from three viewpoints, you head back to your ship.

Explore one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens independently.

After a short coach transfer, you will arrive at the Botanical Gardens nestled in the verdant hills overlooking Madeira’s capital. Once the grounds of a private estate, these gardens are now one of the island’s most celebrated attractions. Spread across five hectares, the garden showcases more than 2000 species of plants from every continent, some endangered in their native habitats, alongside a wealth of Madeira’s own flora. On arrival, you will be free to explore independently, wander at your own pace and take in the fragrance of blossoming flowers and the vibrant palette of greens, reds, yellows and purples. Each step unveils new wonders, including viewpoints that offer sweeping vistas of Funchal and the island’s coastline.

Experience the Saturday night parade along Avenida do Mar – a highlight of the island's carnival festivities. The lively parade is a show of colour and music that attracts thousands of spectators, as groups parade in colourful dance costumes along the street. Leave the ship and walk to the seating area. Once in your seat, enjoy the spectacle as the procession of Funchal’s Carnival Parade passes you by, take in the dazzling costumes, rhythmic music, and exuberant dancers as they pass by. At the end of the parade, walk back to the ship.

Please note: This is not a guided tour, the booking includes a seated ticket to view the parade. Due to street closures, there is no transport available. There is essential walking of up to half a mile between the ship and the designated seating area, with the same distance on the return walk to the ship. Confirmation of the assigned seating area and walking distance will be confirmed on board. Early bookings are recommended. Saga must commit to ticket bookings on December 19, 2025, and after this date any further bookings may be on a request basis. Your designated seat will be in a grandstand; the seats are hard plastic and there will be up to 10 steps without a handrail to negotiate to access the seats. Portable toilets are situated along the parade street and you likely will need to walk a couple of hundred yards to the nearest portable toilet. The parade will begin at 21:30. The duration of the parade is dependent on the length of the procession, therefore the duration may vary but the parade is expected to last a couple of hours.

Take in the highlights and views of La Palma on a scenic drive.

Beginning from the pier in Santa Cruz de la Palma, your drive takes you firstly to the Mirador de la Concepcion, pausing for photos at this viewpoint before continuing to the visitor centre of Caldera de Taburiente. After stopping at the visitor centre, drive to Mirador de La Cumbrecita, where you will stop for photos at the look out. Then, continue the drive to the western part of La Palma, through Los Llanos de Aridane, surrounded by cacti and banana plantations, before returning to your ship via the town of El Paso.

Please note: This is a coach-based excursion with most of the sightseeing taking place from your vehicle. At each photo stop expect to walk approximately 150 yards. You will spend approximately 15 minutes at Mirador de la Concepcion, 30 minutes at the visitor’s centre and 30 minutes at Mirador de La Cumbrecita. The drive involves travelling on steep, winding roads – vertigo sufferers should take this into consideration. Visibility from the viewpoints is dependent on the weather and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Visit La Laguna Market before driving through northern Tenerife, pausing at Humboldt viewpoint for a short photo stop.

Departing from the pier, head along avenue Santa Cruz known as ‘Las Ramblas’, passing by the now disused bullring and Parque García Sanabria. Next, head towards San Cristóbal de La Laguna, where you will have approximately 30 minutes to explore the historic market officially known as Mercado Municipal de La Laguna. The drive continues east pausing for a drink at Bodegas Alvaro, before reboarding your coach and travelling to Humboldt viewpoint. Pause here for a short photo stop to take in the view of the coastline, the Orotava Valley and, on a clear day, perhaps even see Mount Teide. Afterwards, return to your ship.

Please note: This tour includes a scenic drive, a 30-minutes stop at La Laguna Market for time at leisure and a 15-minute photo stop. There is an essential walk of 350 yards required, with any additional walking at the market at your discretion. The Christ Church in La Laguna is not always open due to festivities and services. At the bodega you will stop for approximately 15 minutes to sample a small glass of wine. The tour may operate in a different order to described, so your visit to La Laguna may be at the beginning or end of the tour.

See Tenerife’s most striking natural feature, Mount Teide, without the exertion of a demanding hike.

Departing from the pier, your coach will climb up towards the Esperanza Forest area, featuring Canarian pine and eucalyptus trees, as you make your way to La Tarta viewpoint to pause for a short photo stop. Next, journey south along the base of the mountain range, through more pine forests and the foothills to Teide National Park, declared a national park in 1954. The park features a vast volcanic crater measuring over 29 miles in circumference and within it is Mount Teide, rising to a height of 12,000 feet. It is the highest peak in Spanish territory and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The park is situated at an altitude of over one mile above sea level: in winter, snow and gale force winds often close roads through it; during the summer months, the arid landscape gives visitors the impression of having walked onto the set of a western movie and can reach temperatures of over 37°C. Pause for a refreshment at Bambi Restaurant, before heading further into the national park. Stand in the shadows of the majestic Roques de García as you pause for a photo stop. Then it is time to make the return journey to your ship in Santa Cruz.

Please note: Expect to walk at least 500 yards, over some uneven surfaces. There may be a considerable amount of standing. We recommend that you take an extra layer of clothing as temperatures may be considerably colder than at sea level. Visibility from the viewpoints is dependent on the weather and therefore cannot be guaranteed. The refreshment will be a tea or coffee. The drive to the first viewpoint will take approximately one hour. The duration of each stop is between 15 and 30 minutes. The return drive to the ship will take approximately one and half hours. Due to weather conditions the tour could be rerouted at last minute.

Discover the 'classic white' village of Vejer de la Frontera on a walking tour.

Vejer de la Frontera is situated between the sierras and the sea, perched high above the steep gorge of the River Barbate. Leaving the port by coach, travel through Cádiz and along the winding roads, climbing the tree-flanked hillside.

Arriving at the Spanish hillside town, see the whitewashed houses, declared a national monument in 1978. Join a local guide and enjoy a walking tour along the cobbled streets, lined with traditional architecture.

Afterwards, return to Cádiz and your awaiting ship.

Please note: Expect to walk approximately three-quarters of a mile, this will be uphill and across uneven cobblestones. You may encounter frequent steps and you will be on your feet for the entire visit. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. You will spend approximately one-and-a-half hours in Vejer de la Frontera. The drive will take approximately one hour each way.

Visit the Fundador winery to discover a simple secret… brandy goes exceptionally well with chocolate.

The winery was founded in 1730 and consists of several vineyards, a winemaking plant, ageing cellars and a bottling centre. During your time at the winery, you are invited to tour the museum to learn about Fundador, credited as being Spain’s first brandy, before a tasting of three brandies paired with three different chocolates.

On your return journey to the port, you will have a panoramic drive through Jerez and Cádiz.

Visit Fundador Bodegas and take a stroll through Jerez de la Frontera.

Leaving the pier, your journey takes you along part of the Ruta del Toro (Route of the Bull). As you venture deeper into the countryside, passing olive groves and the villages of Andalusia, your guide will tell you about local agriculture and the history of bullfighting.

Arriving at Jerez de la Frontera, famous as the home of sherry, flamenco dancing and purebred Andalusian horses, visit the Fundador Bodegas to learn about the artisanal process of sherry making. While here you can taste a brandy and a wine. Afterwards, enjoy a short walk in the town centre before reboarding your coach for the return journey to Cádiz. Once there, your coach will take you on a short panoramic drive around the city centre.

Please note: There is approximately 700 yards of essential walking in Jerez de la Frontera. The drive to Jerez will take approximately 45 minutes. You will need to stand for approximately one hour at the Fundador Bodega, the walking tour follows therefore you will be on your feet for the entirety of the visit to Jerez.

Discover Seville on a walking tour and visit to the cathedral.

Seville’s history is punctuated by peaks and troughs: golden ages and a great plague which wiped out half of the city’s population. The architecture you will see during this tour is testament to both its past and present, including the largest cathedral in the world and a palace fit for a ruler – several, in fact.

After a transfer of approximately one-and-three-quarter hours, you will arrive in Seville. Your tour begins with a drive to Plaza de España – a semi-circular brick monument overlooking a small canal. Continue to Paseo de Colon and alight for your guided walking tour through the Santa Cruz Quarter. This neighbourhood, formerly the Jewish Quarter, is renowned for its charming squares.

Next, walk towards Seville’s cathedral, a symbol of Christianity’s triumph over Islamic rule: after all, the Christian holy place was built on top of the Islamic one. Gaze up at the tall minaret which has been transformed into the cathedral’s belltower and, stepping inside the cathedral itself, you will find high vaulted ceilings, 80 chapels and Christopher Columbus’s tomb. Gaze at the golden altar piece, which was the lifework of Flemish craftsman Pierre Dancart, taking over 60 years to perfect! You will then have the opportunity for some time at leisure to explore before returning to the ship by coach.

The tickets for the cathedral must be purchased in advance, therefore this tour is non-refundable. You will have approximately 45 minutes of free time. A packed lunch can be supplied by the ship on request. The drive from the ship to Seville will take approximately one-and-a-half hours each way. The first opportunity for a comfort stop will be approximately two-and-a-quarter hours into the tour.

Stroll around the Alameda Gardens before enjoying a view of The Gibraltar Rock on a scenic cable car ride.

This tour will firstly take you to see the plants at Alameda Gardens, which are part of an important conservation project. Join your guide, who will point out various flora, sights and wildlife while describing the history of the gardens as you wander around the grounds. Gibraltar’s cable car is the territory’s only purpose-built tourist attraction, and you will have the opportunity to ride to the top of the Rock. Enjoy free time to wander around the terraces and admire the view over the city of Gibraltar to the west and the coastline of Africa to the south.

After your tour, a shuttle service will take you back to the ship, or you may prefer to be dropped off in the Irish town pedestrian area to browse the shops. Or, perhaps relax in a pub or cafe, before making your own way back to the ship.

Please note: There is approximately one mile of walking. This excursion operates by mini-bus, cable car and on foot. At the entrance to the gardens there are 48 steps to negotiate. Once you are in the garden grounds, the paths are generally paved with some steep gradients, some areas may be uneven and there will be approximately 25 steps to negotiate throughout the gardens. Please expect queues and crowds at the cable car and be aware that the cable car may not operate during harsh weather conditions. Views from the cable car cannot be guaranteed. Passengers are reminded that Gibraltar’s apes may be encountered on this excursion and should not be touched or fed as they may bite. You will spend approximately 45 minutes at the Alameda Gardens. Dependent on the time of year when visiting the Alameda Gardens, different plants will be flowering.

Begin by travelling past the British/Spanish Land Frontier. Your first stop is Europa Point, site of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Britain, where you can savour dramatic views of the Atlantic merging with the Mediterranean.

Next, you will be taken to the nature reserve, home of the Northern Defences Sector, where you may be able to catch a glimpse of Gibraltar’s most famous residents, the mischievous Barbary apes.

At the World War Two Tunnels you can visit the areas that housed the hospital, power station, military headquarters and accommodation for nearly 10,000 troops and civilians.

Please Note: This tour involves walking of up to approximately three-quarters-of-a-mile with a steep incline of 450 yards on the way out of the tunnels. You will spend approximately one-and-a-half hours at the tunnels. This excursion is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.

Go in search of dolphins on this boat trip.

Gibraltar’s bay boasts three species of dolphin the Common Dolphin, Striped Dolphin and Bottle-nosed. After departing from your ship, take the short bus transfer to the ‘Dolphin Adventurer’ pleasure cruiser.

Then, after setting off into the bay, learn about the history of this tiny colony, and you will be given an insight into the marine life of the bay from the crew.

After landing, return transport will be available back to the ship, or you can choose to walk into town for shopping and a little independent exploration before making your own way back to the ship.

Please Note: This excursion involves approximately 300 yards of walking to reach the vessel and a couple of steps to board the boat unassisted. We recommend that you take some warm clothing for the boat ride. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. The boat ride will last approximately one-and-a-half hours. The boat is not exclusive to saga guests.

Take a drive around Gibraltar and visit a distillery to learn about the art of Gin distilling. 

From the quayside, travel north towards Gibraltar’s unique airport runway to the border between this small British Overseas territory and Spain.

Proceed along the outskirts of town, passing the American War Memorial and The Trafalgar Cemetery to arrive at Europa Point.

After a panoramic tour, you will be dropped off in front of the Bristol Hotel in Main Street, where you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue.

The tour begins with a brief history of the Art of Distilling, plus an insight into gin production before a comprehensive timeline of gin’s chequered past. Enjoy a gin tasting experience, before returning to the port.

Visit two locations in Northern Lanzarote that showcase César Manrique’s architectural talent - Jameos del Agua underground cavern and the Rio viewpoint.

Departing from the pier, travel to the north of Lanzarote to visit the Jameos del Agua Cave. César Manrique turned what was once a water hole in the earth’s surface into an inspiring volcanic cavern and exotic subterranean water garden, Jameos del Agua. On arrival, you descend into the cavern via a winding staircase leading down to the underground, natural lake. This underground lake is slightly illuminated by the sun and is home to the blind albino crab, which are unique to Lanzarote. After your visit inside the cavern, you walk along the volcanic path to the surface where you can see the crystal blue waters of the swimming pool, a backdrop for many visitor’s photos.

Reboard your coach and head to Mirador del Rio, a viewpoint located 1640 feet above a cliff. This is one of the most unique architectural creations by César Manrique where you can capture a panoramic view of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago. Before returning to Arrecife, enjoy a visit to an Aloe Vera Farm, tucked away in the village of Orzola.

Please Note: Expect to walk just over half a mile. The terrain at the cave is made of volcanic stone and can be uneven. There are 60 steps at Mirador del Rio, and 180 steps at Jameos del Agua Cave to negotiate, 65 of which do not have a handrail. We recommend bringing a light jacket or jumper, as it can get cooler at the viewpoint. You will spend approximately one hour at Jameos del Agua Cave, 45 minutes at Mirador del Rio and 40 minutes at the Aloe Vera Farm. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.

Frequently included in our list of ‘top quality-scoring tours’, Fire Mountain with Volcano BBQ is certainly something unique that we are confident you will enjoy. It is known as the ‘Island of Volcanoes’ for good reason: the landscape of Lanzarote is punctuated by over 300 volcanic cones overlooking blackened lava fields which were created between 1730 and 1736 when almost a third of the island was covered in lava. Even today, volcanic activity can be observed in Timanfaya National Park, and on this excursion your BBQ meal will be cooked using the very heat source that altered the island’s physical shape, as well as its agricultural and cultural identities.

Your tour vehicle leaves the port and, having passed through the whitewashed villages of Puerto del Carmen, Mache and Yaiza, arrives at the national park. From here you transfer to one of the national park’s coaches for a drive around the edges and slopes of the volcanoes.

Then, head to ‘El Diablo’, a restaurant offering a 360-degree panorama across the surrounding rugged landscape. Join us for a trek around the Cuervo Volcano, also known as ‘The Ravens Boiler’.

Departing from the pier, head towards the El Cuervo volcano area. On arrival, begin your guided hike through the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote, offering an opportunity to experience the island’s dramatic scenery up close. Along the way, you will enjoy panoramic views and visit the interior of a volcanic cone formed during the 1730 eruption. The hiking route also includes a stop at the largest volcanic bomb on the island, located at the foot of Montaña Colorada. After the hike, visit Bodega Rubicón to enjoying a glass of the renowned volcanic Malvasía wine of Lanzarote before returning to the ship.

Lanzarote has a fascinating history, one of its most notable events being the eruptions of the 1730s, when the volcanoes in the Timanfaya area erupted for six years and covered nearly a third of the island with lava. This volcanic landscape is revealed in Timanfaya National Park, also known as ‘Fire Mountain’, which will be your first destination. Once at the national park, begin a tour of the craters and lava beds in this lunar-like terrain and see demonstrations to show the latent power of the volcano. Afterwards, a short drive will bring you to an Aloe Vera Farm. This is a small educational centre dedicated to the cultivation, processing, and benefits of aloe vera.

Browse the adjoining shop, before the drive continues to La Geria, where vineyards dot the landscape. Here, the vines are protected by semi-circular stonewalls, making them look more like art than agriculture. A stop here will be made to visit a bodega, where there will be the opportunity to purchase some Lanzarote wine before returning to the ship.

This excursion begins with a transfer to Peñas del Chache, the highest point of the island, where your trek begins. Continue down the path, through rich and varied vegetation, into the Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees.

Here you will discover another impressive viewpoint as you walk through the greenest part of Lanzarote. Reaching the charming village of Haria, reboard your coach and travel to the the Green Caves. These are lava tubes formed by the eruption of the La Corona volcano over 3,000 years ago. Your guide will tell you how they were created and how they were used as a refuge by the island’s inhabitants when escaping in the past from invaders or pirates. Part of the cave network has been equipped with electric light, and one section has been converted into an underground concert hall.

Go in search of the whales and dolphins in the sea surrounding Madeira in an RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat).

After a short transfer to the marina, there will be a briefing before your adventure begins. Then you will set off on your RIB adventure, fully equipped for observing a variety of marine life. Thanks to lookouts on land who will guide your boat towards the mammals, which may include Short-finned Pilot Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Common Dolphins that often leap from the water displaying their acrobatic moves as they swim alongside the boats. If you are lucky, you may also spot a Risso’s Dolphin, a Beaked Whale or an Orca, all of which are occasional visitors to Madeira.

Palheiro Gardens was originally established in the early 19th century as a hunting lodge for the Count of Carvalhal, the estate was acquired by the Blandy family in 1885. Since then, generations of the Blandy family have nurtured and expanded the gardens. On arrival to the gardens, stroll with your guide through the different themed sections of the gardens. Today, Palheiro Gardens is home to a collection of rare trees, exotic plants, and vibrant flowerbeds, including centuries-old camellias, towering African tulip trees, proteas, azaleas, and jacarandas. Herbs, such as mint, lemongrass and lemon verbena, are grown in the garden and feature in the fresh herbal teas served in the tea house. After some free time to explore on your own, you will head to the tea house for tea and a light snack.

Follow the course of the Levada do Norte from Ribeira Brava to Quinta Grande.

Walking a ‘Levada’ trail is one of the most enjoyable ways of exploring Madeira. These irrigation channels were created in the 19th century by the Portuguese settlers, who painstakingly carved them out of the rock by hand. Designed to carry fresh water from the north to the drier southern regions of the island, they helped to create many of the lush landscapes that can be seen today. Departing from the pier travel to Ribeira Brava where you will begin the walk following the Levada do Norte route to Quinta Grande.

After walking for approximately two-and-a-half hours, head to a nearby bar to taste poncha, a traditional Madeiran alcoholic drink made with aguardente de cana, honey, sugar, and juice before returning to your ship in Funchal.

Enjoy a boat ride along the coast of Tazacorte in search of whales, dolphins and other marine life.

Leaving the pier, journey west across the island to the small fishing village of Tazacorte. Here, you will embark the boat and set off in search of marine life. A number of different whale species, including pilot whales, and several species of dolphins can be spotted off the coast of La Palma. The boat’s crew will be on hand to provide information on the marine environment and its inhabitants, and to answer any questions about the wildlife and the surrounding area. You may also have the opportunity to see the newly formed lava delta after the La Palma Volcano Tajogaite erupted in 2021. Following the boat return to your ship in Santa Cruz.

Head off the beaten track in a 4x4 bus to explore the island’s volcanic vistas, shaped by volcanic activity over the past century.

Board your 4x4 bus at the pier and head towards the hills of Las Breñas, crossing thick vegetation and looking over Cumbre Nueva, the island’s main mountain range. Continue into the mountains, across the National Park and on towards the Refugio del Pilar, until you reach the Mirador del Jable viewpoint. From this natural balcony enjoy a panoramic view of the Aridane Valley, the Caldera del Taburiente and the Cumbre Nueva hills. Reboard your bus, to continue your adventure through volcanic scenery and along offroad tracks, pausing at the San Juan volcanic area, where you will be able to see a flowing lava river before crossing a large area of Canary Island pine.

Pause to tuck into some traditional Canarian snacks before driving to the town of Fuencaliente. You will stop here to see the San Antonio volcano volcano. After admiring the view at approximately 2080 feet above sea level, return to the ship by road.

Next, your drive passes through the little town of Los Sauces as you make your way to the Tendal Museum (Parque Arqueológico El Tendal) where you can learn about the inhabitants of the island. Visit the El Paso Silk Museum and the restored 17th-century sugar estate, Hotel Hacienda de Abajo.

Sit back and enjoy the scenery as you travel along mountain roads, passing vineyards and banana plantations en route to El Paso. Here visit a small silk museum where you can witness silk being weaved by a 500-year-old process – the only place in Europe where this method is still used. Afterwards, you visit a restored 17th-century sugar estate, now the boutique Hotel Hacienda de Abajo. Surrounded by rich vegetation and botanical gardens, this historic manor house exhibits a collection of art, including sculptures, paintings, furniture, porcelain and tapestries.

On arrival your guide will take you on a tour of some of the rooms followed by a snack. Afterwards, as you make the return journey to Santa Cruz, a short photo-stop will be made at La Glorieta Square, allowing you to admire the mosaics by local artist Luis Morera.

Walk through the laurel forest of Los Tilos and on to the village San Andres y Sauces as you admire the coastal view.

Venture through Los Tilos Forest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve home to a profusion of ferns, trees and other indigenous species. The tour begins with a short panoramic drive into the hills to Mirador de la Concepcion, a vantage point with views over the city. From here, it is a 50-minute drive to Los Tilos, which translates as ‘laurel forest’. You then set out on a walk through this forest of ancient laurels, lime trees and giant ferns. During your trek, your knowledgeable guide will identify specimens and explain points of interest along the way.

Emerging from Los Tilos, continue your walk along a stretch of coast near San Andres before returning to your ship by coach.

Seek out whales and dolphins on board a catamaran in the waters of southern Tenerife.

Leaving the pier, travel for one-and-a-quarter hours by coach to the harbour of Puerto Colon, in Playa des Las Americas. On arrival, board the catamaran and go in search of whales and dolphins. Pilot and sperm whales swim in the waters around Tenerife all year round and you may also see dolphins or other species of whales if you are lucky. During the catamaran trip, drinks will be served and you will have some free time to swim if you wish or sunbathe on the Catamarans netting. After spending approximately three hours on the catamaran you return to the ship by coach.

Please note: The boat used during this excursion is not exclusive to Saga guests and this tour is unguided. Minimal walking is required but there are approximately eight steps to negotiate when getting on and off the catamaran, which you need to be able to do unaided. You must be a confident swimmer if you wish to go in the water.

All activities in the water are undertaken at your own risk. There are toilet facilities on board the boat and steps are required to access them.

Enjoy a cable car ride to the summit of Mount Teide for an aerial view of Cañadas del Teide National Park.

Setting off from Santa Cruz your drive will take you through the Esperanza Forest and on to the National Park. On reaching the cable car station at approximately 7700 feet above sea level, a short stop will be made to admire the view before boarding the cable car. Be sure to have your camera close to hand during this eight-minute ride to the mountain’s 12,198-foot summit. You have some free time here to take in the vista of sprawling mountains punctuated by rugged petrified rock. Then, return to the lower station to rejoin your coach for a scenic drive that takes in again this unique island’s countryside, before finally arriving back at the port.

This excursion involves spending several hours at altitudes ranging from 7,500 to 12,000 feet above sea level, therefore please consider its suitability if you have any pre-existing medical conditions. Each cable-car takes a maximum of 44 passengers and travels to the top in under eight minutes; you may need to stand in a queue while waiting to board. You must by physically fit to participate in this tour, If the Teide Cable Car stops while you are at the upper station, you may have to descend the mountain on foot. We recommend that you wear layered clothing and bring a warm jacket, as it can be cold and windy.

Head to Puerto de la Cruz to visit two gardens: Jardin Botanico and Orchid Gardens of Sitio Litre.

First, take a drive along the island’s main highway to Puerto de la Cruz, an old colonial town on the north coast. The first garden you visit is the Jardin Botanico, founded by a Royal decree of King Charles III of Spain in 1788. He wanted to create a nursery where plants, shrubs and flowers, brought by the Conquistadors from the New World, could acclimatise to Spanish soil. Many of the plants here are the original specimens, delivered shortly after the opening of the garden. The centrepiece is a huge South American fig tree whose branches and roots have created an outlandish treehouse.

Next, a short drive brings you to the Orchid Gardens of Sitio Litre, which have welcomed many distinguished visitors including the famous crime writer Agatha Christie. These tranquil gardens are bursting with colour and have the largest collection of orchids in the Canary Islands. Here, enjoy tea or coffee with a pastry and perhaps browse the shop. Afterwards, enjoy some time at leisure in Puerto de la Cruz before the return drive to Santa Cruz.

Explore the Pyramids of Güímar, a complex of six terraced structures made from lava stones, before visiting the Basilica de Candelaria.

Leave the pier and head to the Pyramids of Güímar. The Ethnographic Park was founded in 1998 by the renowned Norwegian researcher Thor Heyerdahl. The site features a complex of six terraced, rectangular structures constructed from lava stones without mortar, which resemble step pyramids.

You will tour this ancient site before heading to Candelaria to visit the Basilica de Candelaria, the first Marian Shrine of the Canary Islands. Built in the Moorish-influenced Mudejar style, the basilica is home to the Virgin of Candelaria, declared the island's patron saint in 1599.

En route, you will pass through Oratava Valley, pausing for a photo stop at the Humboldt Viewpoint to take in the view of the coastline, the Orotava Valley and on a clear day perhaps even Mount Teide. The viewpoint is named after the explorer and naturalist Alexander Humboldt, who visited the island in 1799. He also visited the garden that previously stood on the site of what is now the Orchid Gardens, established in 1774 and the oldest on the island. On arrival at the gardens, you will be welcomed by one of the owners who will act as your guide.

In their company, explore the garden with its water feature, Dragon Tree, believed to be over 400 years old, and of course the collection of orchids, housed and displayed in a curving walkway. After your garden visit, take time to relax in the Orchid Gardens’ cafe as you enjoy some refreshments before returning to your ship.

Please note: This tour involves walking of at least 650 yards over uneven terrain with gravel-covered areas, some slopes and steps. Flat, non-slip shoes are recommended. The drive to and from the Orchid Garden will take approximately 45 minutes each way. You will spend approximately one hour at the Orchid Gardens. Flower blooms in the garden may vary depending on the time of year. The refreshment includes tea or coffee, biscuits, cake and mini sandwiches.
