A succession of cosmopolitan cities await
Delve into the history and culture of Scandinavia on this all-inclusive cruise to Norway, Denmark and Sweden in 2027. The Norwegian capital city of Oslo has a rich Viking heritage, having been established in 1040 by Harald Hardrada, the ‘last great Viking king’. Today, the city boasts numerous theatres, art galleries and museums, including the Munch Museum, which exhibits work by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch.
Cruise across the Skagerrak strait to Denmark’s Jutland peninsula to visit the attractive waterside city of Aalborg, known for its revitalised waterfront on the Limfjord. The city boasts more than 300 shops and a vast collection of street art, it is also home to the Kunsten – a Museum of Modern Art. More cultural attractions await in the cosmopolitan Danish capital, Copenhagen. Highlights here include Tivoli Gardens, the Nyhavn Canal with its 17th-century houses, Christiansborg Palace and Amalienborg Palace, and of course, The Little Mermaid Statue. Finally, step ashore in southern Sweden to explore the city of Gothenburg. Its fascinating architecture, vibrant atmosphere and variety of art galleries, from the Gothenburg Museum of Art to the cutting edge Roda Sten Art Centre, make it one of Sweden’s trendiest cities.

Oslo’s roots reach back to the Viking era when Harald Hardrada, in 1040, established a trading place at the head of the Oslofjord. It is a compact city packed with theatres, art galleries and museums. The Munch Museum is dedicated to the life and works of the celebrated Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, while Vigeland Sculpture Park has 200 pieces made by the artist after which it is named. Landmark sights the Opera House, Nobel Peace Centre and City Hall can be seen from the waterfront.

The attractive waterside city of Aalborg lies in the north Jutland region of Denmark is best known for its revitalised waterfront on the Limfjord. The city boasts more than 300 shops and is home to the Kunsten – a Museum of Modern Art designed by the iconic Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. Beneath one of the city’s busy shopping streets lies a Franciscan Monastery Museum documenting the medieval history of the monastery, which was established in around 1250. Today, the city has a thriving art and culture scene with an vast collection of street art.

The cosmopolitan Danish capital is an eclectic mix of architectural styles which attest to its long history. Once a small village, it was fortified when Bishop Absalon of Roskilde built a castle here in 1167. Attractions include Tivoli Gardens, characterful Nyhavn Canal graced with 17th-century houses, the Baroque-inspired Christiansborg Palace and Rococo Amalienborg Palace, residence of the Danish Royal Family. The Little Mermaid Statue, which has been plucked straight from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy-tale of the same name, graces the waterfront.

Soak up the Scandi atmosphere as you stroll along the waterfront or through the ‘Haga’ – the city’s old quarter. The city has a choice of museums and galleries to visit, from the Gothenburg Museum of Art with its fine collections and the cutting edge Roda Sten Art Centre, to the niche Radiomuseet (Radio Museum).
