Spirit of Adventure blog

Meet Captain Krešo Volarić

13th September, 2022

Ladies and gentlemen,

Allow me to begin my first blog by introducing myself to you. My name is Krešo Volarić and I already know that you are having trouble pronouncing my name. Just to make it easier for you, you may call me Captain K.

Born and raised in Croatia where my connection with the sea began. Sailing as kid through the Adriatic, making it as a professional sailor taking part in renowned regattas, today my favourite part of the world to sail would still be the Mediterranean. Through sailing, I knew I wanted a profession at sea. It’s my rest place when I am not home with my family.

My wife Angeliki , who is half British half Greek, and I, share two beautiful children. Their names are Karlo and Katarina. They mean the world to me as I have always been humble to the greatness of family. I have recently joined Saga where the family values I believe in are met by how we all work together as a team to deliver memorable experiences. Everyone I have met so far within the company are truly dedicated and hardworking people.

In regards to my first cruise, I must say it has been full of emotions.

First of all, I became very excited when it was time to introduce myself and get to know the guests, while off course learning the ship and meeting the crew as soon as possible.

However, what will remain memorable to me for the rest of my life, is the moment I had the duty to announce the sad news of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II. It was not easy… It then meant a lot to me personally and as a Captain to be repeatedly complemented for my announcement by guests on board. Following the events, the senior leadership team and I came together, to make sure that all of our guests are well taken care of during this sad moment. We distributed black armbands as a gesture of respect for all crew to wear. It was noted that the atmosphere among our guests and crew started to turn positive, which was something I expected and hoped for as in sad and difficult moments people do come together.

A new chapter in ones career can be challenging but I must confess how good it feels to be here, to be part of the Saga team onboard Spirit of Adventure.

Looking forward to more exceptional experiences on board for our guests crew and myself!

Kind Regards
Captain Krešo Volarić
