Piraeus

24th October, 2022

Although our original Pilot time was set for 7 o’clock, I know, from my previous experience, that with all the ferries that have priority over other traffic in the harbour, we would have to wait and hold our position until a slot became available for us to enter the port; we agreed with our pilot that we would delay our arrival. The Pilot boarded us at half past and we still had to wait for 20 minutes, however, we had the best parking spot in the harbour and were all fast alongside by ten past 8.

Our guests went off to explore Piraeus, Athens and the Acropolis. I went ashore for a quick walk and towards the uniform store as I was on the hunt for a winter greatcoat. Unfortunately, I was told by the shopkeeper that this type of coat is not so popular these days so they no longer sell them. I guess I’m too old fashioned. I came back on board just before the lunch, as agreed with Staff Captain Denis, so he could go out for a walk and lunch ashore.

Original departure time was set for 5pm, but with the expected delay on arrival I extended our stay until 18:00 in order to offer the full stay and the port experience. Denis took us out, reversed my actions from this morning, then swung us around once we got out of the harbour and the breakwater, then set our course for our next stop, Milos.

Kind Regards
Captain Franko Papić
