6th March, 2019

Friday 8th March 2019, 12:30am. I just finished work, is been a really long day but I feel really excited and is one of those days when I understand why I love what I do and I can appreciate more than ever the fortune to have the life I live, a life at sea.

Days like these make my contract and more than that make my life a beautiful journey of new discoveries. One more ticked off my bucket list, “The Aurora Borealis”!

I was so excited at the beginning of this cruise, higher hopes than expectations, to have the chance to witness the beauty of the northern lights dancing in the sky up north far beyond the Arctic Circle. What I hoped I will see, what I imagined, was nothing compared with what I experienced that cold night at -27 in our hunt for the northern lights tour at Kautokeino.

We arrived in Alta early morning on March 6that the Marina Quay pier, welcomed by the snow and the cold air, surrounded by beautiful mountains and nature everywhere you looked there was a potential picture to be taken. Our 2 days in Alta were planned to be the highlight of the cruise, looking at the list of excursions on our dispatch was exciting and promising, I was sure our guest will come back at the end of each day with many great stories and memories to share after their experiences with the reindeers, husky dogs, ice hotels, Sami village and of course the magical northern lights.

I wasn’t wrong, we had two long days of hard work, but it was all worth it, our excursions were very successful, and we got some fantastic feedback from our guests, exhilarating stories and amazing photos from our call.

Is hard to describe with words the overwhelming experience with the northern lights, been there in the cold and darkness staring at the sky, seeing that amazing display of lights and changing shapes covering the stars was in deed one of the best nights of my life, something really especial which I will never forget.
