Ah, Tarragona, what a wonderful surprise!

I was last here back in 2002 when I was involved with starting a new cruise line. We came to Tarragona for commissioning and stores. I didn’t think much of the place then, but then I only saw the ‘port’ area. So when I looked over the itinerary when I joined the ship for this tour of duty I was curious to understand why Tarragona was on the schedule. More on that later…..

This morning it was a fabulous horizon as we embarked our Pilot at 0700 and the sun broke into a new day at 0722 with the sun rising in cloudless skies. Moments like these are when you appreciate being alive.

Berthed for 0800, on schedule, the gangway landed and clearance granted shortly after, my Guests were off for their experience in Tarragona… I was sceptical about that.

During the day the Harbour Master and Port President attended on-board for the exchange of ‘plaques’ as this was a first call for Saga Sapphire.

It was lovely day, weather-wise and as our Guests returned the Shore Ex Manager, Nat, messaged me to say the feedback was really positive. I was surprised and pleased. Furthermore, at the Newcomers cocktail party this evening I had resounding support for the call with accolades of how great the town was, historic, well preserved and very beautiful.

Tarragona is clearly a port of call for Saga Cruises in the future.

All back on-board for 1930 we were off for a leisurely passage down to Motril - another new Port for me. A lovely, lovely day..
