Malaga

Saga Sapphire blog - Captains' blogs

28th September, 2016

After two leisurely days at sea, when the temperature was rising steadily and sun shone all day, we entered the Mediterranean and on Wednesday morning docked in Malaga. We were all fast before 8’clock, but the sun was still below the horizon. It gave our guests a fantastic opportunity to watch the sun rise as they were having breakfast. A lovely start to the day.

‘Malaga City Tour’won the prize for the most popular excursion today. It started with a panoramic drive to the Gibralfaro Castle, whose Spanish name means literally ‘the Mountain of the Lighthouse’. Next was a visit to the city centre, with the Roman Theatre, then to the Alcazaba, a well-preserved Arabic fortress and palace that nestles below the Gibralfaro. A fascinating complex, it dates back to the 11th century and includes fountains, gardens and delightful Andalusian patios. Leaving the Alcazaba, the stroll continued through the city centre, viewing the Renaissance-style Cathedral, which dates from the 16th century.

Once we left Malaga many of our guests enjoyed relaxing on deck enjoying the beautiful Mediterranean weather. You could however sense that everyone was waiting for this evening’s Show as Myleene Klass was the highlight of the evening entertainment. The Britannia Lounge was packed and everyone very much enjoyed the show by this well-known musician, TV presenter, author, and businesswoman.
