Grand Canaria

Sunrise this morning found us manoeuvring onto the passenger berth at Las Palmas, Gran Canaria which is located close to the city centre. I always enjoy Gran Canaria as everything is so convenient with a very short walk to the Tour buses and for those going ashore independently they can easily stroll to the town centre or to the beach. With temperatures around 23’C this was perfect weather for the sun worshippers. There are of course a few passengers who just prefer to stay on board and be looked after by our attentive staff. In fact during a port day morning they usually have the ship to themselves.

Although not on the original schedule we decided to have a late sail. With an evening in port this gave another opportunity for guests to head ashore or to stay on board and experience a very special Saga Grand Buffet and Bar-B-Q. Here are a few photos of this amazing event which is certainly the best I have ever seen on any cruise line. George, our Executive Chef, and his team started “creating”early on in the day to build what can only be described as a Saga Spectacular. There was so much selection from Lobster and King Crabs to Angus Sirloin Steaks and marinated deer haunch steaks. Serrano , Chorizo and smoked ham and all washed down with some special Sangria –its making me hungry again just writing about it!!

To finish off a fabulous day there was a sailaway party on deck with our guests demonstrating that age is only a number!! After departing Gran Canaria on a warm balmy evening I did pop down and witness first-hand what a great party it was with live music from our in house band.
