Tenerife

Saga Sapphire blog - Captains' blogs

6th December, 2016

Landfall off the Island of Tenerife was made at 0900 this morning, as our 3rd Officer Rebecca made the final preparations for our arrival to the pilot station.

I took the Con (Control of the direction and speed) of the ship just prior to boarding our local pilot and we then headed into the harbour of Santa Cruz. We swung the ship through 90' and then "backed up” towards the berth.

Once we were all fast it didn't take long for our eager guests to start making their way ashore. With nearly 400 guests on tour they had the perfect conditions to explore the island - fine and sunny, light winds and a high of 22'C.

I myself took the opportunity to head out on my bike, which had been completely overhauled by one of the Bridge Quarter Masters (QM) in his spare time. What an amazing job he did - I think I might bring my other 2 bikes next time!!

Anyway he, along with another QM, joined me as we headed along the coast on a dedicated bike path towards San Andres, where we discovered a lovely beach - Playa de las Teresitas. It was just too inviting not to take a quick dip. Our return to the ship made for a rewarding 10 mile ride and the feeling that my bike was finely tuned.

A beautiful afternoon on board for those enjoying the sunshine, led to the preparations for some Local Flamenco Performers - Flamenco de Tenerife. What a beautiful site as they danced on the aft open deck with the backdrop of Santa Cruz making a perfect setting. Our guests loved it and the photos give you taste of this fabulous setting

We are due to sail at 2230 and head off to la Gomera for "another day in paradise"
