Casablanca, Morocco

Saga Sapphire blog - Captains' blogs

20th January, 2015

The strong winds we encountered leaving Agadir unfortunately developed into a swell of about 5 metres on the bow, so we had a bit of a bumpy run up to Casablanca and a slightly delayed arrival. However, we picked our pilot up at 0845 inside the Breakwater and were all fast alongside by 0930.

There were four excursions today: The Portuguese Medinas; Casablanca City Tour; Local Flavours; and this afternoon’s excursion to the Hassan II Mosque.

The wind had picked up again for our departure, so we used a tug to assist us to pull away from the Quayside and using our bowthruster were able to lift the ship away in near gale force conditions. Everything happened slowly and steadily, and I turned the ship through the wind and gave a lot of ahead power in order to get steerage and reduce the drift in the wind.

All went well and once we were swung we let go the tug, disembarked the pilot, and set course north to Lisbon.

There was a pre-dinner show this evening from the Explosive Singers and Dancers with “Hollywood Nights”, and after dinner passengers enjoyed the comedy artistry of Master Marionette Artists John and Josef and their Stars on Strings. Our late night cabaret was the lovely Michele from the Explosive Cast followed by the Perfect Mood Duo performing favourite tunes for singing and dancing to.
