La Palma, Santa Cruz

Saga Sapphire blog - Captains' blogs

1st February, 2015

On arrival at Santa Cruz I decided to turn the ship and “reverse in” to the port, so this manoeuvre was carried out in darkness but utilising all our electronic charts, radars and the naked eye; a team effort. We were all fast alongside by 8:14am.

As soon as we docked the first excursion headed off, “La Hacienda & Silk Museum”. In the afternoon “Taburiente Tour” was followed by the intriguing” Volcano and Wine” or the “Forest Walk” and finally there was another opportunity to visit the “Hacienda & Silk Museum”.

There was a nice surprise from La Palma local entertainers, “Echentive” who performed folk songs and dances in their cultural costumes and towards the end of their performance guests were invited to participate.

It was a late sail this evening, and again I asked the Staff Captain to take the ship away under my supervision and again he did it extremely well.

Disco Dancing featured as we sailed away after our local show, featuring “The Explosive Singers” Michele, Danniella, Aaron and Joel singing hit songs of the 70’s beautifully accompanied by the Saga Orchestra. While in Coopers Bar, Martin played requests and in the Drawing Room it was easy listening by the wonderful duo, Perfect Mood.
