Killybegs, Ireland

Saga Sapphire blog - Captains' blogs

26th August, 2014

We docked on the north west coast of Ireland in the fishing port of Killybegs at 8:00am this morning. Killybegs lies in County Donegal and the town is situated at the head of a scenic harbour and at the base of vast mountains. For those passengers who enjoy walking, it was a pleasant stroll along the harbour to the town and a beautiful day to do so. But we also provided a complimentary shuttle bus service which ran continuously throughout the day and dropped passengers off at the Bay View Hotel in the heart of the town. The town is small and quaint with a population of just 1,300, but it was a lovely little place for a stroll and a coffee (or a pint!). /p>

Our Shore excursions team had organised a number of tours today including ‘A Stroll Through Donegal Town’, ‘Belleek Pottery and Donegal Town’, Donegal Bay By Waterbus’ and ‘Wild Donegal and Glencolmcille’./p>

After a busy day in port, all were back on board by 5pm and we prepared to set sail. Passengers enjoyed the views as we left this beautiful part of Ireland. /p>

This evening’s entertainment began with an early evening classical recital by the Marylebone Trio and after dinner we welcomed Opera Singer Kate Dowman to the Britannia Lounge for her Cabaret Show. Upstairs in the Drawing Room our extremely talented Resident Duo performed acoustic music which was a lovely way to relax and enjoy their music before retiring for the evening.
