A nice seaday before our overnight stay in Tromso. A little cooler, so at the special request of King Neptune we held our “Crossing the Arctic Circle Ceremony” in the warmer climes of the Discovery Lounge.
This cruise we have the pleasure of having Dame Esther Rantzen onboard and we are doing lots of fundraising for Silverline, Saga’s first ever national charity partner. We've held lots of charity events for this fantastic charity, and our guests have helped with contributions and bid in our auction for events around the ship – such as making the noon announcement or ringing the ship’s bell. All very exciting. Dame Esther did her Q&A session on the seaday morning and the Discovery Lounge was packed, and the audience ready with lots of questions. At 6:30pm we held our Britannia Club Cocktail Party and were treated to a great formal dinner in the evening – thanks Dirk!!!
We picked up our pilot at 2330 on the seaday evening and sailed towards Tromso for around 111nm inside the Fjords. We were docked in Tromso just before 8am on the 7th March. Tromso has become very popular over the years, especially with the Aurora searching tourists and it's always nice to return to this great port.
The Dogsledding and Reindeer experience proved to be very popular with our guests again, and many of the Red Army could be seen keenly stepping ashore and going on the buses into this great place. One of my favourite tours is the Arctic Cathedral Concert, and this proved to be very popular.
Northern lights……….yes we got them in the evening around 8:30pm – beautifully flickering on the Starboard side. Have attached some photos, hopefully this is the start of some great evening shows as we head north!!!
6pm all aboard after our overnight stay and it was time to set sail for Alta, our most northerly port. I really hope we get some great views of the Northern Lights up there too – watch this space!!!
