Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs

10th April, 2018

After 2 relaxing days at sea, in calm smooth waters, here we were in Bordeaux. Our 2 seadays saw many activities including our vocal group Troubadour for showtime, many great lectures, the Captain’s Welcome Reception and a show by our Celebrity Chef Dean ‘Digger’ Edwards.

Our guests were really looking forward to the ports ahead and here in Bordeaux was no exception. It is a fabulous place combined with the berth being very central in the city, making access to all very achievable. We embarked our river pilot on the 9th April at 10pm and then sailed down the river where we were docked at 3am on the 10th April.

On the 10th April in the morning I had the privilege of going on tour with 30 guests, our F&B Manager Andrea and our Executive Chef Gavin to the great food market of Bordeaux. We had a great morning sampling cheeses, pates, meats and local delicacies and the guests really enjoyed it – as did I!!

Many guests chose to explore this great city on foot and we had lots of tours on offer which were snapped up!! Overnight stay here in Bordeaux was a fantastic opportunity and not many cruise companies do this –so thank you SAGA!!

4:30pm was all aboard and we were ready to set sail. Just before 5pm we departed our berth and sailed the 71 miles out to the mouth of the river. This was an opportunity for our passengers, who very sensibly had been tucked up in their beds on the way in, to enjoy the views. Thank you for a great stay in Bordeaux!!!

Next stop Pasajes – tight entrance – we will be fine!!!
