Why is a cruise a great option for a solo traveller?

In recent years, solo travel has become a new norm, with more people than ever choosing to pack up and explore the world on their own. If you’re thinking about travelling solo, then a cruise could be a great option for you. It provides a safe and secure environment for you to explore the world, with a myriad of opportunities for activities and destinations at your fingertips.

Here are just a few of the things that make a cruise a great option for a solo traveller.

No need to worry about logistics

Unpack once in your luxury single cabin

When travelling solo, one of the biggest sources of anxiety can be the need to deal with all of the logistics on your own, especially if you want to visit multiple destinations on one trip. One of the best things about cruising is that you don’t have to work out the logistics of getting from one destination to another on your own. You also only have to unpack once, which means you can totally settle into your cabin from the first day on the boat and get the most out of your trip. Similarly, you never have to worry about finding food - it’s always available.

A cruise takes the stress away entirely. However, this doesn’t mean that the planning is taken completely out of your hands. You’re still free to make your own decisions about the activities you want to take part in, or the excursions you want to go on.

Socialise, or not!

Lounge by The Lido pool

A cruise is a unique form of solo travel because it provides the opportunity to experience travel totally solo, from the comfort of your own cabin, or to socialise on excursions and activities. If you want to lounge by the pool and relax all day, then you can, but if you want to get stuck into all of the wonderful activities available, then that’s up to you too! The choice is yours, but both options are there.

If it’s your first solo trip, smaller-sized ships are the ideal choice for those travelling on their own as they provide a warm welcome and sociable atmosphere, without being overwhelming. You’ll soon find that everybody has a story to share, and by the end of the cruise, if you want to, you’ll have made a number of new friends.

Excursions and activities

Enjoy a glass of bubbly at the drinks party

Just because you’re travelling solo doesn’t mean you have to miss out on fun excursions, or activities. Our cruises are packed full of activities for you to explore. Whether you enjoy sport, dancing, eating or otherwise, there is something for everyone to get stuck into, meaning that you’ll never get bored!

Our cruise itinerary even includes a special ‘Singles Mingles’ drinks party, which is a great opportunity to meet and socialise with your fellow solo travellers early on into your cruise experience.

Most cruises will also have a Daily Programme, which includes a number of activities ranging from exercise classes to lectures or quizzes. It could feel daunting to turn up to these on your own, but rest assured that all of your fellow solo travellers are in the exact same boat. If you are worried, our cruise directors will be there to help you and can ensure that you’re matched up with like minded people for activities or excursions.

If that has whetted your appetite and made you consider a solo cruise for your next trip, then take a look at our solo cruise page for more information. Alternatively, find out what destinations are available, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any specific questions. We look forward to welcoming you aboard one of our cruise ships soon.
