Explore the attractions of Amsterdam from the Royal palace to the 19th-century Rijksmuseum during an included tour and canal cruise or explore the city on foot, sampling local delicacies along the way.

Included tours of Düsseldorf, Cologne and Bonn offer a relaxing way to see the main sights, while in Koblenz you can visit Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on an optional excursion. Day 1 UK to Amsterdam

Travel to Amsterdam (a journey from Calais of approximately five hours, plus comfort stops) and embark Spirit of the Rhine.

Enjoy dinner on board as your ship remains moored here overnight.

Day 2 Amsterdam 🎧

Amsterdam's Skinny Bridge over the Amstel river

The Dutch capital is rightly popular for its friendly welcome, picturesque canals, world-class museums and galleries, and laid-back cafes and bars. This morning perhaps enjoy the local food and culture on an included culinary walking tour with a guide. You’ll take a tram to Central Station from where you’ll begin a walking tour of the Dutch capital while tasting local delicacies including herring, cheese and croquettes along the way.

Alternatively, you could join an included tour of Amsterdam by coach and see the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the floating flower market, the Central Railway Station, which is built on thousands of wooden piles, and the grand 19th-century Rijksmuseum.

Afterwards, enjoy a canal cruise to the city centre with its historic bridges and gabled houses and see the famous Skinny Bridge, Montelbaanstoren tower and the Jewish Quarter.

Spirit of the Rhine sets sail this evening and cruises overnight towards Düsseldorf.

Day 3 Düsseldorf 🎧

After a relaxing morning on the water you’ll arrive in Düsseldorf early this afternoon. Enjoy an included tour of the famous Old Town – a square kilometre brimming with churches, art and more than 250 pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes. You’ll also see the Gothic St Lambertus church, The Rider statue of popular elector Jan Wellem and the Burgplatz (square) with the Schlossturm (palace tower).

Your cruise resumes later this evening and continues towards Cologne.

Awaken this morning in Cologne, Germany's cultural capital. This morning, set off on an included city tour – see the vast Gothic cathedral, started in 1248 to house the relics of the three Magi but not finally completed until 1880! It houses a shrine to Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar – now among the patron saints of Cologne – behind the high altar.

Spend the afternoon at leisure.

After dinner, your ship embarks on the overnight journey towards Bonn.

After an early arrival, this morning you may like to join an optional tour of the city to see some of the highlights, such as the Electoral Palace, the baroque City Hall, and Beethoven's former home, now a museum dedicated to his life and work.

This morning Spirit of the Rhine will begin the journey to Koblenz, arriving after lunch.

Discover the riverside promenade and several historic churches, all set beneath the Festung Ehrenbreitstein citadel on top of the hill, which you may choose to visit on an optional excursion this afternoon.

Day 7 Koblenz to Rüdesheim 🎧

Depart Koblenz during breakfast and cruise through the UNESCO-listed Middle Rhine to the wine town of Rüdesheim, arriving mid afternoon.

Spend the afternoon at leisure and this evening you can enjoy an included wine tasting on board your ship, which remains moored in Rüdesheim overnight.

Day 8 Rüdesheim to Boppard 🎧

The Rhine at Boppard

This morning an optional excursion visits Siegfried’s Museum of Mechanical Music where over 350 self-playing instruments are displayed.

Set sail over lunch, arriving in Boppard this afternoon where you may like to join an optional visit to Rheinfels Castle and St Goar, or opt for an optional wine tasting. The cobbled streets of Boppard feature extensive Roman remains, medieval fortifications and half-timbered buildings.

Day 9 Boppard to Cochem 🎧

Cochem Castle overlooks historic Cochem town on the Moselle River

Depart early this morning to arrive in Cochem this afternoon. With the romantic backdrop of neo-Gothic Reichsburg Castle, which sits atop a hill cloaked entirely in vines, Cochem is understandably one of the most visited places on the Moselle River.

This afternoon an optional excursion visits the castle, which has maintained the original 11th-century keep. The excursion will also visit a local vineyard for a wine tasting. Another optional tour explores the town by land train.

Day 10 Cochem to Traben-Trarbach

Sail from Cochem early this morning, arriving in Traben-Trarbach this afternoon.

These twin villages straddle the Moselle and are known as the 'capitals' of the wine region, they are home to many art nouveau buildings.

Day 11 Traben-Trarbach to Bernkastel-Kues 🎧

Beautiful Bernkastel Kues on the Moselle River in Germany

Late this morning your ships sails from Traben-Trarbach and will arrive in Bernkastel-Kues shortly after lunch.

This afternoon you can enjoy an included trip on the panorama train to see some of the main sights of this Moselle city, including the wine museum, St Nikolaus Hospital, the parish church of St Michael, the birthplace of philosopher Nikolaus Cusanus and the historic market square with its centuries-old half-timbered houses.

Day 12 Bernkastel-Kues to Piesport

Depart Piesport late this morning and continue cruising through lunch to arrive in the small town of Schweich in the early afternoon. The wine making traditions of this area were established by the Romans.

Porta Nigra in Trier

Today you can join an included morning excursion to the ancient city of Trier where you can see the Porta Nigra – one of the best preserved Roman city gates in the world. There's also a beautiful cathedral and market square to be explored here.

Return to your ship for lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
