IJmuiden

Saga Sapphire blog - Captains' blogs

10th February, 2019

The weather has finally calmed down a bit and the entry into Ijmuiden was less challenging than Wilhelmshaven. We were docked right next to a Jack up Barge which gave the passengers who remained onboard something to look at and wonder what everything did!

Unfortunately, the drizzle was still with us, but as usual this didn’t deter our passengers from heading ashore to visit Amsterdam. Seven tours went to Amsterdam including the Van Gogh Museum and the cities canals by boat. A tour to Haarlem with and organ concert and a drive through the Dutch countryside.

However the wind and the rain increased during the afternoon and the last tour back from the Canals returned with some very damp passengers.

By departure time the wind was again gusting at around 45 knots and we used 2 tugs to back out of the berth, swing and head out to sea towards Zeebrugge. Another exciting departure! This time we didn’t need a helicopter for the pilot though.
