It was a super run up to Ijmuiden, an overnight jaunt up the coast until we raised the lights of Ijmuiden at sunrise this morning, and a spectacular sunrise it was. I know I keep rattling on about sunrises and sunsets, but they are rather special at sea - even in the southern North Sea. This morning it had depth, fabulous colour and left you with the question, “what of the day ahead”…

The pilot was embarked at 0730, and he was an interesting character. It’s a straight forward manoeuvre to get in at Ijmuiden, the dredger was a bit of a nuisance, but parking went to plan.

The Cruise terminal at Ijmuiden, whilst not exactly ‘down-town’, is the perfect launch pad for Amsterdam, the Canals and of course Anne Frank. The ship was cleared by the authorities as soon as the gangway was ‘in’ at 0845, with 30 minutes to spare before the Shorex ramblers were off ashore.

Greeting the morning ‘tourists’ I had some great feedback about the tours in Zeebrugge yesterday, and the entertainment last night. We have the ‘Jacks Pack’ onboard, a four man swing group. I did stay up to watch them last night and they went down well with our guests. A swell time was enjoyed by all!

We had to be away promptly from Ijmuiden, for our ‘run’ up to Bremerhaven. The passengers were all back onboard punctually, thank you, and we made a swift departure. Staff Captain Tom was driving out tonight. It was not the easiest of manoeuvres and required the services of the local Tug. Having backed out of the narrow ‘cut’ Tom swung into the main stream and we were off out of Ijmuiden on our way to Bremerhaven.

I’m just getting sorted for the Cocktail party. It’s the Welcome Party tonight and I’m hosting my table at dinner… hard life! The waistline is getting out of control though!
