Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs

Well after a wonderful overnight stay in Alta we sailed through the Fjords during the night and we approached our new port of Harstad at around 8am. After a ferry left the cruise berth we were alongside the downtown pier ready to go at 9am. Harstad is a new port for Saga and is in the north eastern corner of the large island of Hinnoya which is north of the Arctic Circle. It is the second largest town in Troms county after Tromso.
Lots of tours available today including the Private House and Waffles tour, City Sightseeing and the Adolf Gun, from Haydn to Havella & the Trondenes Peninsula – all sound very exciting. Our Red army was as keen as ever to go exploring and with their snow grips on ventured down the gangway and into the “unknown”……..
Nice weather here today with a bit of wind but this did not deter our guests and crew from enjoying this new port. I also hosted a Plaque exchange ceremony with the local harbourmaster, so this will add to the Saga Pearl II collection :)
Just after 6pm we departed our berth and then we aimed for Lodingen Pilot station to drop off our 2 northern Norway pilots and then it is a nice relaxing day at sea, and a chance for our guests to relax after all their adventures. Next stop Alesund and the weather forecast is looking great!!!
