Grundafjordur

Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs

20th July, 2018

Well today we embarked our pilot at 6:30am for the transit into the fjord and towards our berth. We were originally scheduled to anchor here today but we managed to secure the berth! We turned and backed in as it was due to be windy in the later part of the day, so it meant we could do more of a ferry manoeuvre for departure!

The key words here in Grundafjordur is Puffin Paradise – and we had many of our Saganauts venture ashore on tour to see the wonderful Puffin bird. Little rainy with wind here today but it did not stop our determined guests getting ashore.

Many happy guests returned having seen the Puffins today and we were alongside till just before 10pm, where fortunately the wind had eased and we were able to leave. With a dancing party going on around the sundowner area and the Opera Girls headlining the show this evening it was a great finish to the day.

Tomorrow Reykjavik – Iceland’s Capital – and we have secured the downtown cruise berth – perfect!
