So here we are New Year’s Day in Lisbon – Happy New Year Everybody!!!
What an arrival last night, we embarked our pilot at 11pm on New Year’s Eve and then full speed to the dock, unfortunately there were a lot of small vessels hanging around the firework launch site by the bridge so we had to weave as slow speed around them, but with 2 minutes before midnight with our stern facing the bridge we were docked and the countdown commenced! A fantastic firework show for midnight and we had the first class seats – could not have timed that any better. After docking the ship in my formal uniform (very cruisy) I proceeded to the back deck to sing Auld Lang Syne and to have lots of New Year hugs!! What a great night and the guests and crew loved it.
Fantastic weather here in Lisbon with sunny skies and a chance for a bit of a lay in for the guests and then to explore ashore at their leisure.
5pm and time to leave our last port on this cruise before 2 seadays heading home. On the 30th December we had our fantastic Cinderella Panto – and the Cruise Director, Chief Engineer, Staff Captain and Hotel Director all played their parts very well… don’t give up your day job!!! And tonight, for one night only, is the wonderful Crew show – looking forward to that. Weather forecast looking promising so full steam ahead for Portsmouth!!Captain Nick Sunderland
