Few rivers can match the sheer variety that the Danube has to offer
The River Danube is Europe's second largest river, flowing for more than 1700 miles from the Black Forest to the Black Sea.
Napoleon is said to have described the Danube as ‘the Queen of Europe's rivers’, which is hardly surprising considering it passes through 11 countries and 18 territories!
It also flows through some of the continent's famous cities and countryside – historic Budapest in Hungary, magical Vienna in Austria, the UNESCO cultural landscape of the Wachau Valley and the stunning Danube Delta. No wonder it was immortalised by Johann Strauss in his famous waltz.
