The Pasadena Roof Orchestra

Playing music from the roaring 1920s and elegant 1930s, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra is one of the UK’s finest dance bands established over 50 years ago. The band was founded in 1969 by John Arthy and is now led by Duncan Galloway, who brings an element of tomfoolery to performances, which are both musically and visually entertaining. The band has toured the USA, appeared in Kuala Lumpur, played at London’s Albert Hall and tour Europe and the United Kingdom on a regular basis. Their shows include classic tunes from George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and Duke Ellington, as well as exclusive arrangements from the Great British dance bands. Duncan will also present a talk: 'The History of the Dance Bands and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra', a light-hearted look at life on tour with anecdotes from the Orchestra's rich history.
On-board talks from Martin Sixsmith
Join former BBC correspondent, Martin Sixsmith on board for a series of talks exploring political history. From 1980 to 1997, Martin reported from Moscow, Washington, Brussels and Warsaw – a period which saw the Cold War thaw during Gorbachev’s rule. Martin is now a writer, presenter and journalist, and wrote the BBC Radio Series, Russia: A 1000-Year Chronicle of the Wild East. Martin is also well known for writing The Lost Child of Philomena Lee, the poignant true story of a mother unwillingly separated from her son, which has since been turned into a motion picture starring Dame Judi Dench and Steve Coogan. Martin has written numerous books including Ayesha’s Gift, which tells the story of a young woman’s search to discover the truth following the murder of her Father in Pakistan.
Syd Lawrence Orchestra
Directed by Chris Dean, The Syd Lawrence Orchestra will recreate the sounds of the 1940’s, celebrating the music of Glenn Miller. A dynamic blend of hard swing section, great soloists, and beautiful vocalists will transport you back to the era of ‘In The Mood’, ‘String of Pearls’, Moonlight Serenade’ and ‘Pennsylvania 6-5000’. You’ll also enjoy an evening of orchestrated music from the movies such as Gone with the Wind, The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz.
Performances from Collabro
After being crowned winners of Britain’s Got Talent series eight, Collabro went on to have their first number one album, which became the fastest selling record that year. Since then, the boys have amassed over one million record sales worldwide with four major album releases, two of which were on their own record label. They have also completed four major tours of the UK, including a 52-date tour culminating at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. Their success in the UK is matched internationally, seeing them travel all over the world to America, Canada, the Philippines, Taiwan and Europe. The boys have enjoyed massive success in Japan particularly, where they visit on a yearly basis and won a prestigious gold disk award alongside Meghan Trainor and Sam Smith. In 2019, following the mammoth success of their huge fourth UK tour, the boys were offered a major record deal with BMG and have since released their fifth studio album, ‘Love Like This’, to great critical acclaim. The hard work, longevity and global success of Collabro affirms them not only as one of the most successful winners of Britain’s Got Talent ever, but also as a household name in British music.
Supercraft with Julie Peasgood
Television presenter, actress, and passionate crafter, Julie Peasgood will be joined by a team of talented super-crafters on board to lead a range of creative workshops. Join Melissa Waudby, owner of Simply Vintage, and learn how to make vintage teacup dioramas and rose wreaths; owners of the renowned Lechlade Craft Barm, Jennie Rainsford and Karen Holland, will lead workshops creating printed tote bags and no-sew Christmas baubles; Anna McGeoghegan, a specialist tutor for the blind and partially-sighted will demonstrate jewellery and bookmark making; and professional sculptor John Rattenbury will be creating an original plaster casting of a unique plaque on board. Covering all levels from beginner to experienced crafter, your creative talents will reach new levels on this supercraft-themed cruise.
On-board talks from Dr Simon Fricker
Look forward to a series of talks from Dr Simon Fricker, musical director for many famous musicals including Blood Brothers, The Wizard of Oz and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Simon has toured Germany with Oklahoma and in Sweden, he directed Elvis the Legend. In theatre, television and cabaret, Simon has worked with a host of celebrated performers such as Tommy Cooper, Brian Blessed and Gorden Kaye, to name but a few. Simon has a BA and MA in music, a PhD in Composition from the University of Sussex and a Performer’s Diploma from Trinity College; he is also an experienced lecturer in musical development, arranging and composition.
