Emden
The final port call for this Northern European cruise saw Spirit Of Discovery on an early morning transit of Germany’s River Ems. After a pilotage lasting 3 ½ hours, we manoeuvred into the Binnenhafen lock with metres to spare before mooring up at Nordkai Berth, Emden.
This harbour is a hub of German industry, the docks lined with newly-manufactured cars, wind turbines, and ships large and small. Twenty miles upriver, just outside of Papenburg, is the birthplace of both of Saga’s new cruise ships - the vast shipyard of the Meyer Werft company.
Tomorrow shall be a full day at sea, before concluding this voyage at our homeport of Dover. Meanwhile preparations for our highly adventurous Greenland cruise continue unabated. You can look forward to many updates on this over the coming weeks.
Kind Regards
Captain Darin Bowland, MSc
