Ijmuiden

2nd September, 2019

Well here we are in the sea port serving Amsterdam. A little nip across the channel and up the coast last night and we are ready to get our guests into Amsterdam. We embarked our pilot this morning at 6:30am then proceeded into the Ijmuiden harbour. Bit of a difficult and tricky manoeuvre today, but we used the wind to our advantage and turned on arrival and backed up to the berth. 8am and I see many keen guests today going ashore.

We have 1467 ‘souls’ onboard this cruise with the most guests we have ever had at 951 and 238 Newcomers - so a very warm welcome to the Saga Family! With 516 crew from 27 nationalities they will all be very well looked after. At 9am we hosted our Plaque ceremony – another one to hang in the Chart room forming part of our unique collection. Many tours and shuttle buses off today and it was nice to catch up with people at the gangway.

Bit of an extended stay in Ijmuiden today due to traffic so we left at 8pm, then it was power ahead and turn into the buoyed exit channel. Dropped our pilot off and we will make course for Helgoland tomorrow...
