Spirit of Discovery blog

Dover

10th July, 2019

Greetings everyone!

On Wednesday 10th July we officially welcomed our Guests aboard our magnificent new ship Spirit of Discovery for her Maiden cruise – “A British First”, around the British Isles on a British registered Ship. There has been so much excitement and anticipation around the new ship and having arrived into Dover on 28th June we spent the last 2 weeks adding the final touches ready to enter service, including a spectacular naming ceremony with the Duchess of Cornwall as Godmother. We also had a fun plaque exchange ceremony (often very dull!!) with Senior personnel from the Port of Dover – photo is attached.

At 1300 our first guests stepped aboard and all I heard was “wow, wow, wow” as they entered the “Living Room” – a luxurious beautifully furnished space that sits at the base of our stunning 3 story atrium. Embarkation was completed by 1530, and with our emergency drills at 1630 our Guests then had the whole ship to explore and prepare themselves for their first night on board. With 5 restaurants including “The Club by Jools” Steakhouse, “East to West” Asian Fusion, and the high class Seafood “Coast to Coast” there is certainly plenty of choice and all included in the price of course!!

After dinner there was a party on the Lido deck, followed by a Saga “Magic Moment” with an outstanding fireworks display from the end of the Cruise pier. Fantastic firework photographs with kind permission of Peter Kesby Photography and Martin Collins.

We then sailed off into the night and because the ship is so quiet many did not even realise we had sailed!!

See you in Newcastle
