Itinerary
Spirit of the Rhine
Travel to Rotterdam and embark Spirit of the Rhine. Your all-inclusive cruise begins with dinner tonight.
Depart Rotterdam, 0900.
Arrive Dordrecht, 1100. Depart 2200.
Dordrecht, the oldest city in the region of South Holland, sits at the confluence of three waterways, the Rhine, the Meuse and the Merwede. In the early 11th century Count Dirk III built a castle here to gain control of the shipping routes, and the city grew up around it. There is a selection of fine churches, due to early links with the Protestant reformation. Other attractions include the old city hall, which spans the canal, the 13th-century Augustijnenkerk and 17th-century city gate. Sail overnight.

Join an expert guide and walk from the ship into Dordrecht to explore the city’s rich history. See key sights such as the Big Church (Grote Kerk), the historic City Hall, and the statue of the De Witt brothers. Pass the Augustine Monastery, where in 1572 the first gathering of the Free States took place. This excursion covers approximately one-and-a-half miles, however a shorter included walking tour is also available.

Today you have the opportunity to visit Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, which started life as a fishing village in the 13th century. See some of the city’s key sights such as the Royal Palace on Dam Square or the floating flower market.
There may be a transfer service available into Amsterdam, depending on your ship’s berth.

Arrive Nijmegen, 2000.
The medieval centre of Utrecht is overlooked by the 14th-century Domtoren bell tower. Opposite the tower on Domplein square is the Gothic Cathedral of St Martin. Each corner of the city hides a quirky museum, art gallery, little church or a view of the city’s network of canals.

Join the guided transfer into Utrecht to explore the medieval centre of the city at your own pace or join the guided city walk.

Arrive Roermond, 2300.
Located on the Waal River, historic Nijmegen can trace its roots back to Roman times. One of the city’s museums, the Valkhof Museum, is situated on the site of an old Roman encampment. Other attractions include the De Waagh, the original market weigh house, located in the city centre, where the cobbled streets are also home to a number of street cafes and the distinctive tower of St Stephen’s church.

Depart 1400. Arrive 2100.
The historic town of Roermond sits on the bank of the Meuse River and has more than 800 years of history. Much of the town centre has been designated a conservation area on account if its listed buildings and monuments. Its skyline is dominated by the towers of St Christopher Cathedral and Roermond Minster.

See some of the city’s attractions on a walking tour. This excursion covers approximately one-and-a-half miles, however a shorter included walking tour is also available.
The city of Maastricht features charming riverside promenades and medieval architecture. Its cobbled old town houses the Gothic-style church of St Janskerk and the Romanesque Basilica of St Servatius. The 14th-century water mill within the city still mills grain for the adjacent bakery.

Enjoy an evening excursion to see André Rieu and the Johann Strauss orchestra perform live.
Please note: You will need to walk from the ship to the concert and back again, a distance of approximately 770 yards each way. The concert starts at 9pm and finishes at midnight.
Optional excursion
Join an optional walking tour during the day. Then, enjoy an early dinner on board this evening before walking to Vrijthof Square in the medieval heart of Maastricht. Here, you will take your seat for the open-air André Rieu concert.
Disembark Spirit of the Rhine after breakfast and begin your return journey to the UK.
