Embark Spirit of the Moselle in Rotterdam and cruise overnight to Hoorn, set beside the Marker Lake and once home to the founders of the Dutch East India Company. This harbour town boasts many historic buildings as a result of its early seafaring wealth, some of which you can see during a walking tour. Travel to Utrecht by coach and visit the medieval heart of the city, which is overlooked by the 14th-century Domtoren bell tower. While Arnhem, known for its connection to one of the famous battles of World War Two and the subject of the epic war film A Bridge too Far can also be explored on a walking tour.
Continue onto the Rhine to discover Cologne’s medieval Old Town, with its churches, guilds and merchants houses, on a walking tour, or opt for a tour of UNESCO-listed Cologne Cathedral. In Bonn, see sights such as the Romanesque Minster Cathedral and the University of Bonn, on a tour by coach and on foot. Finally, visit Andernach, home to medieval fortifications, the 16th-century Old Crane tower and the world’s highest cold-water geyser. From here an included excursion visits the Maria Laach Abbey, a Benedictine abbey set beside the scenic Laach Lake.

Travel to Rotterdam and embark Spirit of the Moselle. Your all-inclusive cruise begins with dinner tonight.
Depart Rotterdam, 0100.
Sail overnight.
Arrive Hoorn, 1300. Depart 1900.
Arrive Utrecht, 0200.
The harbour town of Hoorn, beside the Marker Lake, was once home to the founders of the Dutch East India Company. It boasts many historic buildings as a result of its early seafaring wealth. Notably the State Council building, which houses the Westfries Museum and its collection of ceramic tiles, silver, china and model ships.

The medieval heart of the Utrecht is overlooked by the 14th-century Domtoren bell tower. Opposite the tower on Domplein square is the Gothic Cathedral of St Martin. Each corner of the city hides a quirky museum, art gallery, little church or a view of the city’s network of canals.

Arnhem, located on the banks of the Nederrijn and St Jansbeek rivers, is best known for its connection to one of the famous battles of World War Two and the subject of the epic war film, ‘A Bridge Too Far’. Sail overnight.

Cologne has long been an important trading centre and was once home to the composers Schumann and Mendelssohn. The city’s main attraction is the twin-spired Gothic cathedral which dominates the skyline. There are also baroque palaces, medieval churches and a 16th-century City Hall. The cobbled streets of the medieval Old Town are home to characteristic churches and guilds.

Arrive Bonn, 0200. Depart 1400.
Arrive Andernach, 1900.
Bonn was the capital of West Germany from 1949 until 1999. The key sights of this compact city, birthplace of famous composer Beethoven, include the Beethoven monument, Romanesque Minster Cathedral and the University of Bonn, which was formerly the Elector’s Palace – with its elegant Hofgarten and the baroque City Hall.

Arrive Mainz, 2300.
Cruise the Rhine to arrive in Andernach early this afternoon. Founded by Romans in 12BC, this attractive town features medieval fortifications, the 16th-century Old Crane tower and the world’s highest cold-water geyser. From here an included excursion visits the Maria Laach Abbey, a Benedictine abbey set beside the scenic Laach Lake. Spend the rest of the day cruising the Rhine towards Mainz for an overnight mooring.

Visit Laach Abbey, on the shores of Laach Lake. Founded in 1093 by Count Palatine Henry II, this Benedictine abbey is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. You can explore the abbey and its grounds at leisure.
Disembark Spirit of the Moselle after breakfast and begin your return journey.
