Kirkwall

Saga Pearl II blog - Captains' blogs

14th July, 2018

After a nice sea day heading north in the North Sea, with a fantastic turnout at our Welcome Onboard Cocktail Party last night, here we are in Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. We picked up our pilot at 7:00am this morning, with a bit of a breeze coming from the south, but in Kirkwall harbour itself it is well sheltered so we should be fine. We have the whole Hatston Pier to ourselves today which is nice and fingers crossed we don’t see any rain. This is our first port of call so many keen "Saganauts" ready to go exploring ashore today, including many of our crew on the ships bikes – which is very nice!!

Tours today were bound for the Scapa Flow, Nature reserve ramble, North Orkney exploration and the Ancient Treasures of the Orkneys – all proved to be popular. We have some nice photos for you of the surrounding area and the Orkneys are a beautiful place to visit.

Already 7pm and time to leave for our short little hop north to Lerwick and the Shetland islands tomorrow so looking forward to that.

The show Piano a’ Deux is on tonight and as a fellow pianist (not many people know that by the way) tonight is showtime!
