The castle at Bernkastel-Kues
Day 1: UK to Trier. Travel to Trier, arriving this afternoon to embark Amadeus Elegant. Enjoy dinner on board. This evening your ship will begin the journey to Piesport, arriving shortly before midnight.
Day 2: Piesport to Traben-Trarbach. Spend a relaxing morning in the historic village of Piesport, which enjoys a peaceful riverside setting backed by verdant countryside chequered with ancient vineyards. This afternoon your ship will cruise beside the vineyard-clad banks of the Moselle river to arrive in Traben-Trarbach early this evening. These twin villages straddle the Moselle and are known as the ‘capitals’ of the wine region. Look forward to sampling some
of the locally produced wine during an on-board tasting.
Day 3: Traben-Trarbach to Cochem. Spend the morning exploring Traben-Trarbach, home to numerous art nouveau villas, underground cellar vaults and an elaborate bridge gate designed
by Berlin art nouveau architect Bruno Möhring. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon cruising the scenic Moselle downstream, pass the ruins of 14th-century Grevenburg Castle and woodland scenery, to medieval Cochem. You’ll arrive this evening for an overnight mooring.
Day 4: Cochem to Bernkastel-Kues.
This morning you may like to take a guided tour of Reichsburg Castle on an optional excursion that also includes a visit to a local vineyard to taste white Rieslings. This afternoon cruise the Moselle back upstream to arrive in Bernkastel-Kues late this evening.
Day 5: Bernkastel-Kues to Wasserbillig. This morning an optional trip aboard the Bernkastel panorama train provides an exciting way to see some of the town’s attractions, such as the historic market square with its half-timbered houses. Your ship departs for Wasserbillig
this afternoon, arriving shortly before midnight.
Day 6: Wasserbillig to Trier. An included excursion this morning travels into Luxembourg to explore its capital city, home to the Grand Ducal Palace and 18th-century Bock Casemates network of tunnels. The city is famed for its medieval fortifications and is overlooked by the Chemin de la Corniche promenade which o ers a dramatic panoramic view across the city. Your cruise continues to Trier mid afternoon and you’ll arrive early this evening to moor overnight.
Piesport and its vineyards
Day 7: Trier. Spend the day in Germany’s oldest city, Trier, founded in 16BC by Emperor Augustus. It retains many relics of its illustrious past as you will discover on an included tour to see the spectacular Porta Nigra, one of the best-preserved Roman city gates in the world, and
the cathedral. Your ship remains moored here overnight.
Day 8: Trier to UK.
Disembark Amadeus Elegant after breakfast for your return journey.
