Visit a succession of vibrant Dutch cities
From Utrecht visit the impressive De Haar Castle to explore the grounds and buildings independently. Zaandam offers a gateway to Keukenhof Gardens where you can spend the day admiring millions of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths independently. Continue to the capital city of Amsterdam, which started life as a fishing village in the 13th century. Seek out some of the city’s key sights such as the Royal Palace on Dam Square or the floating flower market and enjoy a cruise along its historic canals.
Cruise IJssel Lake to Enkhuizen, one of the Dutch East India Company’s main operational ports in the 17th century. Visit the Zuiderzee Museum here, which exhibits over 140 historic buildings from villages around the former Zuiderzee. From Lelystad an excursion explores the car-free village of Giethoorn, known as the ‘Venice of the Netherlands’. Travel to Rotterdam to embark Spirit of the Moselle.

Depart Rotterdam, 0700. Arrive Utrecht (for Castle De Haar), 1200. Depart 1800. Arrive Zaandam, 2130.
The medieval heart of Utrecht is overlooked by the 14th-century Domtoren bell tower.
Included excursion
Travel by coach to De Haar Castle, founded in the 14th century on the outskirts of Utrecht. Explore the extensive castle which has around 200 rooms and gardens independently.

Today an included excursion visits world-famous Keukenhof Gardens.
Included excursion
Visit Keukenhof Gardens, ‘the most beautiful spring garden in the world!’. Spend the day exploring the grounds, which cover an area of 79 acres, independently. Admire displays of millions of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths, and perhaps pick up some ideas for your own garden from the themed gardens here.

Arrive Amsterdam, 0830.
Today you have the opportunity to visit Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, which started life as a fishing village in the 13th century. See some of the city’s key sights such as the Royal Palace on Dam Square or the floating flower market.

On this included tour you will be accompanied by an expert local guide as you discover the city on board one of its glass-topped canal boats.

Visit the Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum and windmill village, which has been recreated to resemble an 18th-century Zaan community.

Cruise the IJssel Lake to Enkhuizen, once known as Herring Town. Enkhuizen was one of the Dutch East India Company’s main operational ports in the 17th century and rivalled Amsterdam in status. The Zuiderzee Museum here exhibits over 140 historic buildings from villages around the former Zuiderzee, and there is also a quirky bottle ship museum – home to the world’s largest collection of ships in bottles!

Arrive Lelystad (for Giethoorn), 1200. Depart 1800.
Lelystad, set beside the Marker lake, is built on reclaimed land. Founded in 1967, it was named after Cornelis Lely, who engineered the Afsluitdijk dam, making the reclamation possible.
Sail overnight.

An included excursion explores the car-free village of Giethoorn, known as the ‘Venice of the Netherlands’, by canal cruiser passing by the distinctive thatched houses that line the network of canals.

Arrive 0800.
The city of Rotterdam was restored following bombing during World War Two and is now home to an array of modern architecture including the Markthal, a combined indoor food market and apartment block, Erasmus Bridge – the philosopher Desiderius Erasmus was born here in Rotterdam – and the Cube Houses, built at an angle across a pedestrian bridge. There are a number of sculptures in the city including works by Picasso, De Koning and Gabo.

See some of Rotterdam’s highlights on an included coach tour and guided walk. Pass the old harbour in Delfshaven, and drive through Coolsingel where you can glimpse Rotterdam City Hall and the World Trade Centre. Stop in the market square for the short walk to one of Rotterdam’s most famous landmarks, the cube houses designed by Piet Blom. Enjoy some free time to explore the Market Hall.
