His famously relaxed yet passionate style has seen him present a wide variety of shows, including: Heaven and Earth; Big Kevin, Little Kevin; Reality Bites and Surprise Chefs; as well as numerous guest and cameo appearances.

Gibraltar
Arrive 0800. Depart 1500.
Watching over the entrance to the Mediterranean, stands the unmistakable limestone Rock of Gibraltar. At its base lies Gibraltar which is connected to the end of the Iberian Peninsula by a sandy isthmus and offers an intriguing blend of British and Spanish culture. Discover Gibraltar’s Palladian architecture and typically British sights, such as red pillar boxes and familiar high street chains, during an included panoramic excursion. Alternatively, visit the military museum or ascend the limestone monolith by cable car for panoramic views and to meet the mischievous Barbary macaques. From the top of the Rock you can look out over two continents: Africa lies just 13 miles to the south, whilst Europe stretches to the north.

Toulon, France
Arrive 1000. Depart 1900.
The French Navy has laid anchor in Toulon’s sheltered harbour since the end of the 16th century. The port’s oldest fortification, the squat Tour Royale, was used to store the French national gold reserves during the Franco German war of 1870. The lively markets, boutiques, squares and harbourside eateries of this French Riviera gem exude joie de vivre. See the iconic 1950s red cable car making regular trips up Mount Faron which rears up behind the city – the ride affords outstanding views en route to the summit where a museum displays World War Two artefacts.

Savona, Italy

The attractive port city of Savona is set on the Italian Riviera and is a new port of call for Saga cruises. In addition to the 16th-century Priamar Fortress and the ‘Torretta’ – a medieval harbour tower, the city is also home to the Cappelle Sistina – a mausoleum built by Pope Sisto IV who built Rome’s Sistine Chapel. Look out too for the remaining Ghibellini Towers which once served as defence towers.

Livorno, Italy
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
Set on the west coast of Tuscany, Livorno was founded in the 11th century to protect Pisa. During the Renaissance, the powerful Medici family commissioned its old town which features a latticework of canals and fortifications, including Fortezza Nuova. It became a free city during the 17th century, attracting traders which has contributed to its multicultural nature. Of note are the Baroque facades along Via della Madonna, the restored Duomo and the checkerboard promenade. An included panoramic excursion will reveal this working port’s mix of old and new.

Portoferraio ⚓, Elba
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
The rugged island of Elba, dotted with hilltop villages and castles, is set between Italy’s Tuscan coast and the island of Corsica. The principal town of Portoferraio sits at the tip of a deep bay on the northern coast. Yachts and pleasure craft fill the marina while boutiques and cafes line the narrow streets. A dominating fortress built by the powerful Medici family has guarded Portoferraio since the 16th century. The French emperor Napoleon spent a year in exile in Portoferraio and stayed at the Villa of the Mills, which enjoys a prime setting on a promontory overlooking the Ligurian Sea. In contrast, Napolean’s simple summer villa in San Marino features a museum displaying art and antiques from the era. Mount Capanne is the highest point on the island of Elba. The summit, 3,340 feet above sea level, can be scaled by cable car, where you can take in far-reaching island views on a clear day.

Calvi ⚓, Corsica

A new port of call for Saga cruises, the Corsican town of Calvi has a sweeping crescent-shaped bay and is overlooked by a vast 15th-century citadel. The walls enclose narrow cobbled alleyways packed with buildings, such as the Cathedral of St John the Baptist and the Oratory of St Anthony. The fortifications offer panoramic views across the bay to the mountains of la Balagne.

Scenic Rock Tour - Included Excursion
Walking difficulty: Panoramic tour
You start the tour by heading towards the airfield runway to reach the British/Spanish Frontier. Proceed towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Here, alight from your tour vehicle to take some photographs of the views of the busiest shipping lane in the world, the mingling of the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and two continents. Then it’s time to head to the Rock of Gibraltar. You will drive down to Princess Caroline’s Battery and enjoy the scenery from the Nature Reserve, the Bay and the Spanish Mainland along with a wide selection of Mediterranean flora and fauna along the way. After, travel via the Upper Rock area, passing by the Moorish Castle and the Tower of Homage that still bears the scars of battle.
Additional Information
This is a coach-based excursion with most of the sightseeing taking place from your vehicle. Any walking at any short photo stops will be at your discretion. The duration of this tour is dependent on traffic. Any type of wheelchairs, scooters or foldable walkers are not permitted on the buses. These can be brought to the bus and then stored at the terminal until you return from the tour.

Walking difficulty: Easy Activity
This introductory tour begins with a drive from the ship to the city centre. Your first stop is at Cathedral Square for a short introduction of Livorno with your guide and some time at leisure. Then re-board your coach and enjoy a drive capturing some of the city’s highlights. Your tour covers several centuries of Livorno's history and will also take you through the "New Venice" district – a labyrinth of canals, waterways and bridges encompassing sights that include the Fisherman Harbour, New Fortress, Republic Square, Santa Caterina Church, and Old Fortress. After, proceed towards the seaside to enjoy a stop at the viewpoint of Mascagni terrace. Conclude your tour with a drive along the Livorno seaside before returning to the port.

This is a coach-based excursion and some of the sightseeing takes place from your vehicle. This tour includes two stops where you can enjoy time at leisure and walking is at your own discretion. The tour may operate in a different order to described. During the visit to Mascagni Terrace there are some steps or a ramp to negotiate.
Scenic Mallorca - Included Excursion
Walking difficulty: Easy Activity
This scenic tour starts by leaving the city behind to first enjoy striking panoramic views from the Mirador Sa Foradada, where you can enjoy a photo stop. Then you’ll head through pine forest landscapes, and almond and olive groves until you arrive in the Spanish village of Valldemossa. Here, you can choose an optional 30-minute walking tour, or alternatively enjoy free time to explore one of Majorca’s most beautiful villages and enjoy more magnificent vistas over the valley. With mountain backdrops dressed in blankets of greenery and the famous Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa, you’ll see why this is such a highly loved destination within the Balearic Islands. Finally, a drive up to Bellver Castle will give you the chance to photograph the sweeping views overlooking Palma and its glistening seafront. Before returning to your ship, you can also gain insight into the importance of its Gothic architectural style.
Additional Information
Walking during photo stops is at your discretion. Given the free time at Valldemossa (one hour stop) this tour is rated as easy, although the amount of walking is at your discretion. The village does have some steep inclines and cobblestone streets.
Lisbon Overview - Included Excursion
Walking difficulty: Panoramic tour
Discover the city of Lisbon on this panoramic tour. Leaving the port, drive past the Jerónimos Monastery, built using limestone over a period of 100 years starting in 1501; UNESCO-listed Belém Tower, constructed with the primary objective of protecting the bay; the Monument to the Discoveries; the pink façade of Belém Palace, the official residence of the Portuguese president; the new Coach Museum; Avenida da Liberdade, the most central avenue in Lisbon and a popular shopping district for both tourists and locals; and Edward VII park. You will also cross the 25th April suspension bridge over the Tagus River to see the imposing statue of Christ the Redeemer. Stretching across the estuary to the Tagus River in Lisbon the suspension bridge is considered as a twin sister of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco because of its similar design. The bridge is an impressive sight, and it also offers a breathtaking view when crossing it. Visible from most parts of Lisbon and beyond, the statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Rei) stands a striking 270 feet high on its angular pedestal, overlooking the south bank of the Tagus River. One of Portugal’s most iconic landmarks standing tall with its robed arms outstretched, it was erected in 1959 and modelled on the famous Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro. Then, enjoy your scenic drive back to the port.

Alameda Gardens and Cable Car Ride
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
Stroll around the Alameda Gardens before capturing views of The Gibraltar Rock on a scenic cable car ride. This tour will also take you to delight in the collection of plants at Alameda Gardens, which are an important conservation project. First, join your guide who will point out the various plants, sights and wildlife whilst also describing its rich history as you wander around the grounds. Gibraltar’s cable car is the territory’s only purpose-built tourist attraction, and you then have the chance to ride up to the very top of the Rock. Enjoy free time to wander around the many terraces and capture the views of the city of Gibraltar to the west and the coastline of Africa to the south. After your tour, a shuttle service will take you straight back to the ship, or you may prefer to be dropped off in the Irish town pedestrian area to explore the many shops. Alternatively, relax in a pub or cafe, before making your own way back to the ship.
Additional Information
There is approximately one mile of walking. This excursion operates by mini-bus, cable car and on foot. The ground at the gardens is generally paved with steps and some steep gradients. Please expect queues and crowds at the cable car and be aware that the cable car may not operate during harsh weather conditions which can also affect the views you will see. Passengers are reminded that Gibraltar’s apes may be encountered on this excursion and should not be touched or fed as they may bite. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Fortress Gibraltar and the WWII Tunnels
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Learn about Gibraltar's unique wartime history on this tour. Begin by travelling past the British/Spanish Land Frontier. Your first stop is Europa Point, site of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Britain, where you can savour dramatic views of the Atlantic merging with the Mediterranean. Next you will be taken to the nature reserve, home of the Northern Defences Sector, where you might be able to catch a glimpse of Gibraltar’s most famous residents, the mischievous Barbary apes. Continue to the Hays Level where you begin a guided tour and visit the exhibition which displays a collection of photographs illustrating the history of the World War Two tunnels.
Additional Information
This tour involves walking of up to approximately three-quarters-of-a-mile lasting around 45 minutes with a steep incline of 450 yards on the way out of the tunnels. There are some low ceilings in the tunnels. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Andalusian Farmhouse Visit
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
A short drive around the Bay of Gibraltar – with a photo opportunity of ‘the Rock’ en route – takes you to the edge of a Natural Cork Forest Park. Here you can visit a typical Andalusian farmhouse dating from 1797 with a patio and old barns. This building is part of a family-run cork and cattle farm. Andalucía produces half of the world´s cork and this area boasts a special high-quality cork sold to the international wine trade market. As well as the bountiful supply of oak trees, view the deep red local ‘Retina’ breed of cattle on the farm, one of Spain´s purest breeds, and enjoy some refreshments. You then have an opportunity to step inside the traditional farm shop selling local products such as leather and cork goods, excellent quality olive oils and sherries. This excursion involves 400 yards of essential walking and standing for over one hour. In addition, you may be required to get off and on the coach to walk across the border check point. You will need to bring your passport with you on this excursion. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Dolphin Watch
Walking difficulty: Easy Activity
Go in search of dolphins and other marine life on this aquatic-creature based boat trip. Gibraltar’s bay boasts three species of dolphin and seven species of whale, as well as sunfish, flying fish and turtles. After departing from your ship, take the short drive to the ‘Dolphin World’ pleasure cruiser. Then, after setting off into the bay, learn about the history of this tiny colony, and you will be given an insight into the marine life of the bay with a running commentary from your guide. After landing, return transport will be available back to the ship, or if there’s enough time, you can choose to walk into town for shopping and a little independent exploration.
Additional Information
We recommend that you take some warm clothing for the boat ride. This excursion involves up to 280 yards of walking to reach the vessel and a couple of steps to board the vessel unassisted. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, and refreshments can be purchased on board if you wish. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Panoramic Gibraltar and Gin Distillery
Walking difficulty: Easy Activity
From the quayside, travel north towards Gibraltar’s unique runway to the border between this small British Overseas territory and Spain. Proceed along the outskirts of town, passing the American War Memorial and The Trafalgar Cemetery to arrive at Europa Point. After a panoramic tour, you will be dropped off in front of the Bristol Hotel in Main Street, where you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue. The tour begins with a brief history of the Art of Distilling, plus an insight into gin production before a comprehensive timeline of gin’s chequered past. At the end of the gin tasting experience, take home a complimentary sample of your favourite spirit.you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue. Garrisons Library
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
This tour takes you on a journey through the rich history of Garrison Library, intertwined with the narrative of Gibraltar. Leaving the port, take a short coach transfer to Garrison Library. In the lower Reading Room, a static display of books narrates the evolution of the library from its inception to the present day. The upper Reading Rooms showcase a Noteworthy artifact – a sandglass from around 1830. The sandglass was once used to time readers eagerly awaiting delayed news from England, notably from newspapers like The Times. The Garrison Library holds a unique position as the pioneer of print culture in Gibraltar, with the establishment of the first printing press in 1801 and the birth of the Gibraltar Chronicle in the same year. Today the Gibraltar Chronicle remains in print and stands as the second oldest continuously published English newspaper. During your visit, archival copies of both The Times and the Gibraltar Chronicle will be available for you to admire. In the Upper Reading Room, you'll encounter a portrait of the esteemed founder, Colonel Drinkwater, and the Ball Room. This unusual feature leads to a balcony offering a panoramic view of the garden. You will also witness the digitisation process in the state-of-the-art studio, where the team preserves the valuable newsprint collection for future generations.

You will spend two hours at Garrison’s library, one hour will be spent either walking or standing. There will be up to 250 yards of walking and walking during time at leisure is at the guest's discretion. This tour is graded based on the amount of time walking and standing. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. This is a small group tour with limited availability.
Coastal Drive to Sanary
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Leaving Toulon, start your scenic drive towards St Mandrier Peninsula. The Tamaris coast road leads to Balaguier Bay, where there are two forts: l'Eguillette and Balaguier fort, the latter was recaptured from the English in 1793 by the young Napoleon. Continue the drive, passing through Six-Four-les-Plages, to reach Sanary-sur-Mer. Sanary-sur-Mer is a 16th-century port town in the heart of Provence with a harbour lined with brightly painted buildings and a promenade dotted with palm trees. At one end of the port is a 13th-century tower, once part of an important defensive system. While the church bell of 16th-century Notre Dame de Pitie, set on a hilltop overlooking the town, was rung by the resident hermit to warn of enemy ships on the horizon. Enjoy some free time to relax with a refreshment in one of the harbourside cafes or take a stroll in the old town and browse the boutiques before returning by coach to Toulon.

Discover Toulon by Tourist Train
Walking difficulty: Panoramic tour
Toulon is located between Marseille and St Tropez, in the heart of Provence, and is surrounded by pine-topped hills. Founded by seventh-century Greek colonists and subsequently occupied by the Roman Army, Toulon has also offered hospitality to travelling crusaders, witnessed military engagement during the French Revolutionary Wars and seen ships scuttled in its bay during World War Two. You can learn more about the city’s rich history during a trip aboard the tourist land train. See the busy natural harbour, characterised by the limestone hills topped by forts, such as 17th-century Fort Balaguier – a squat circular tower built to defend the harbour. You will also pass Tour Royale, once surrounded by water, and the curving beaches of Mourillon. Perhaps spot a military vessel in the port – after all, Toulon offers safe mooring to almost 70 percent of the French naval fleet. Having learnt about the development of the city, and admired passing panoramas, return to the ship.

There is up to approximately 100 yards of essential walking to and from the tourist train. When docking at La Seyne this tour will include a bus transfer to and from Toulon. The Tourist Train element of the tour will last approximately one hour.
Cassis & Calanques National Park Cruise
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Head to Cassis, a small seaside resort nestled at the foot of the Cape Canaille cliffs. A former Roman trading post, admire Cassis’ quays lined by cafes and restaurants, jagged coves, natural beaches and its old town. From Toulon, you will drive to the outskirts of Cassis village where you will board a small road train for a transfer to the harbour. Here, embark on a scenic cruise among the Massif des Calanques, the steep walled inlets and bays of Calanques National Park. This network of canyon-like inlets is one of the geological marvels of southern France. Beneath the surface of these towering rock formations lie caves once inhabited by Neolithic man, now accessible only to divers. After your 45-minute boat trip, you have free time to explore the Provençal port of Cassis, before returning by coach to Toulon.
Additional Information
There is approximately 275 yards from the train drop off to the boat. Guests will be required to walk a total distance of 550 yards over cobbled ground. Any walking during free time is at your discretion. A certain amount of dexterity is required when boarding and disembarking the boats unaided. The boat trip may be cancelled at short notice in the event of adverse weather conditions. The boat used is exclusive to Saga guests. This tour has limited capacity.
Leisurely Aix-en-Provence
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Travel by bus to the former capital of Provence, the birthplace of renowned artist Paul Cezanne and home to the famous novelist, Emile Zola. Aix-en-Provence sits at the foot of the Sainte Victoire mountain. Few towns remain as well preserved as the traditional capital of Provence – Aix-en-Provence, also home to a combination of 18th and 19th century architecture and surrounding boulevards. Upon your arrival, you will board the little train to discover the main sites of the Aix-en-Provence including Cours Mirabeau – this wide avenue, flanked by plane trees, is the hub of Aix. Built in the 17th century on the site of the medieval ramparts, Cours Mirabeau originally had no shops or boutiques. On the right side stand the aristocratic façades of the old mansions with their carved doorways and wrought-iron balconies supported by caryatids or atlantes from the Puget School. You may also spot the natural hot water fountain covered with moss, built in 1734. Its water, which once gushed out at 34°c, was appreciated by the Romans roughly 2000 years ago for its healing properties. Another site you’ll see is St Sauveur Cathedral – a monument where styles from the fifth to the 17th centuries sit side-by-side. Also pass by the Romanesque nave, the baptistery of the Merovingian period, the Triptych of the Burning Bush and the Gothic part before enjoying some free time prior to driving back to Toulon.

Walking during your free time is at your discretion however expect to walk more than 500 yards over cobblestone streets. The drive to and from Aix-en-Provence is approximately one-and-a-quarter hours each way.

During your one-hour boat trip, enjoy a guided tour of the bay and a refreshing glass of wine. Boarded by high, limestone hills topped with umbrella pines, this bay is reputedly one of Europe’s finest natural harbours. Since ancient times, Greek and Roman ships have visited the bay, which now hosts Toulon's naval base. This ancient defence system has served as France's strategic military site for several hundred years. The adjacent coast is lined with forts, built on the hilltops bordering the bay. This Mediterranean town claims to have invented Petanque and is famous for being the birthplace of cinema, where the first movie was made in 1895. After a 45-minute drive from Toulon, walk to Le Savonnier des Calanques where you will be greeted upon arrival. Enjoy a soap making demonstration and learn about their soap product, including the benefits of olive oil for your skin. You will have the opportunity to cut and stamp your own soap to bring home with you as a souvenir. A tasting of the organic olive oil will follow and then you will have free time before reboarding your coach and returning to the ship.

Discover the Toirano Caves

Explore the Toirano Caves, a natural natural wonder which is not always considered the most beautiful but offers a glimpse into prehistoric times. Leave the port of Savona and travel to the caves where you will leave the sunlight behind and proceed into the tunnels, caves and underground rooms. Known for some time, the Toirano Caves were explored in depth in the 20th century starting from the 1950’s and were opened to visitors almost immediately. Today, it has a well-lit route, so it is possible to admire the traces left by those of the past. After exploring the caves, enjoy some free time before returning to Savona.

This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. It is compulsory to enter the caves with suitable footwear: these must be closed-toe, non-slip shoes – we recommend trainers. The guided visit to the cave lasts one hour. The visit to the caves requires a considerable amount of walking and steps, up to one mile over uneven terrain, inclines and declines and approximately 400 steps. Surfaces can be wet and slippery. Easy Genoa

This coach-based tour gives you the opportunity to admire Genoa at a more relaxed pace, with the opportunity to have several leisurely stops to explore or relax. This guided bus tour introduces you to Genoa from a panoramic point to the seashore, passing through the centre. Enjoy a stop at Piazza de Ferrari, the main square of Genoa and the heart of the city. After 30 minutes of free time here, reboard your coach and head to Boccadasse. Legend says that this seaside village was founded around the year of 1000 by Spanish fishermen. A short walk from the coach brings you to a lookout point over the village, or you can stroll down into the narrow streets called ‘creuze’ and admire the colourful buildings up close. Your last stop will be at Spianata Castelletto where you will have a short stop to photograph the city from above and stretch your legs. From Castelletto, you can admire the compactness of Genoa city which hugs the curve of the port. After, return to Savona by coach.

Following a one-hour transfer from Savona, you'll reach Genoa. Your guide will lead you first to Spianata Castelletto, where you can indulge in panoramic vistas of Genoa and its port. Here, you can capture the compactness of the city which hugs the curve of the port. Then head downtown where you will start your walking tour through the city, taking in many of Genoa’s highlights. There will be some time at leisure to explore further or browse shops before returning to Savona by coach later in the afternoon.

After your visit to Finalborgo, travel to the town of Noli. This small town is the birthplace to many merchants and daring seafarers. After the tasting, continue to the Palazzo Gavotti, which houses a small museum - displaying a collection of art and ceramics. The present town has evolved since Etruscan and Roman times: the oval Piazza Anfiteatro stands on the site of the original Roman amphitheatre, the structure of which has been incorporated into the surrounding medieval buildings. From 1325 until the early 19th century, Lucca was an independent republic and enjoyed long periods of peace and prosperity. Its massive ramparts are in an almost perfect state of preservation, as they were never put to the test. Your guided tour will show you the main sights of this intriguing city, including the Basilica of San Frediano, which has a brilliant 13th-century mosaic of Christ in Majesty and a font carved with Romanesque scenes of Moses, the Good Shepherd and Apostles. Passing the remains of the amphitheatre, you continue to the Cathedral of San Martino, one of the finest examples of the Pisan Romanesque style in Italy. At the end of your walking tour, you have a little time at leisure to walk along the main street, Via Fillungo. Nowadays a lively street lined with elegant shops, this was the ancient Cardo Maximus of the Roman city.

Admire the Baptistery with its ‘Gate of Paradise’ - a door with ten bronze relief panels depicting Biblical stories - before continuing across Signoria Square. Walk past the Uffizi and reach the Palazzo Borghese, stopping for an included two-course lunch served with a glass of wine. Afterwards, your guide will take you to the nearby Gothic church of Santa Croce and point out the details of its exterior. You then have some free time to look around the city at your own pace, taking in more of its sights or going shopping, before returning to your coach for the drive back to Livorno.

Upon arrival at the farmhouse, board a traditional horse and carriage which will take you on a tour of the property – revealing olive trees, vineyards and a well-cared-for farmhouse. Then, there’s time to meet the owner and his proud family who will likely be carrying out their everyday activities that contribute towards the running of the farm. After learning more about their roles and life on the land, sit down and indulge your taste buds with a traditional lunch, including freshly baked Focaccia bread, meats and cheese. Easy Peasy Pisa

Once at the motorcoach parking area, your trolley train will be waiting to welcome you and start the easy tour of the city. Drive past sights, discovering this famous Marine Republic while your guide reveals elements of its rich history. Once at The Field of Miracles, the main Pisa square, admire its splendour and listen to the stories of this world- famous place. You'll have some time for photos before retracing your way by trolley train to the motorcoach parking area for your return drive to Livorno.

Livorno by Land and Waterways

Enjoy this half-day excursion to explore Livorno, a city that owes much of its prosperity to its extensive network of waterways. A 15-minute transfer takes you from the cruise port to the Medicean old port. Here, you are invited to step aboard a local boat which will take you through the city’s most colourful district, known by locals as ‘New Venice’. Sights to be seen during your boat tour include New Fortress, Republic Square, Santa Caterina Church, Old Fortress and the Fisherman Harbour. After taking a short walk to the centre of the city, you can choose to join your guide on a short optional walking tour, or have some time at leisure to relax or explore independently before returning to your ship.

You’ll then reach the lovely and welcoming village of Porto Azzurro where you can discover its rich history and culture – located nearby the Spanish fortress of Longone. During the journey back to Portoferraio, you’ll pay an exciting visit to the old country wine-farm “La Chiusa”, beautifully nestled in a vineyard overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Here, you will experience an interesting visit of the estate’s cellar to learn how the wine is handled and produced. A delicious sampling of the local wine served with tasty lights snacks (assorted “bruschettas”, Tuscan salami, cheese and “cantuccini”, traditional almonds cookies) will follow in the outside garden facing the sea. Leaving Portoferraio you’ll head for Colle Reciso and then across the island to Porto Azzurro. From the fishing village to the Spanish fortress of Longone, Porto Azzurro boasts extremely valuable historic and natural treasures just waiting to be discovered. After the Second World War, the people of what was then called Portolongone asked to change the name of their town to Porto Azzurro. It then began a new life as a town independent of the Spanish fortress; the fortress is now used as a prison detention centre. Despite co-existing with the reality of the Prison, Porto Azzurro began in the 1950s and 60s to appreciate and popularise its historical and natural treasures - implementing tourism in its territory. As a result, Porto Azzurro has become one of the preferred destinations for thousands of Italian and foreign tourists. Afterwards, you will reach Hotel Airone where you will enjoy an aperitif and local snacks in the beautiful terrace – located in front of the Gulf of Portoferraio.

Calvi Walking Tour

Discover the town of Calvi on this introductory walking tour. Leaving straight from the pier on foot, follow your guide to the entrance of the Citadel, perched on a rocky hill overlooking the port. Walking along the drawbridge, pause and enjoy the vista of the red rooftops and sea. Continue to Place d’Armes and then to the Cathedral St Jean Baptiste, set at the highest point of the promontory. The cathedral was founded in the 13th century and was partially destroyed during the Turkish siege in 1553; it has since been rebuilt in a form of the Greek cross. Your walk then takes you to the home of Calvi’s most famous resident, Christophe Columbus, who was also born in Calvi. After viewing the exterior of this fabled building, pass the 13th century Caserne Sampiero, formerly the Governor’s palace which now served the military. After, make your way to the Oratorio St Antoine where you can admire the Italian fresco, stroll along the city’s ramparts and wander through the Ville Basse. A bustling section of the town sitting at a foot of the ramparts, The Quay Landry features a marina and a café lined promenade. Enjoy these sights before walking back to the port.

Corsica’s Oldest Village & Scenic Drive

Corsica is known for its scenery and this tour begins with a journey along winding scenic roads and through villages, discovering the Balagne region. Discover a number of villages from your coach until you reach Corsica’s oldest village, Sant’Antonino. Perched on a hillside, Sant’Antonino is often referred to as the ‘Eagles Nest’ and is officially classfied as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Enjoy 45 minutes to explore this village - wander up and down the narrow streets, steep pathways and pass the ancient houses built into the granite rock. After your visit, return to Calvi by coach, passing more scenic suburbs en route.

Walking during your free time in Sant’Antonino is at your discretion. In order to explore the village guests will need to negotiate cobbled streets, steep inclines and steps. Wine tasting at Domaine Orsini

This tour begins with a drive through Calvi en route to the Corsican countryside. Cross the river Figarella towards the village of Calenzana, nestled amongst olive trees at the foothills of the Montegrossu. Calenzana has a long-standing agricultural tradition and is known for its wine and cheese making. Take a moment to explore the 17th-century Baroque church of the village, along with its three chapels and winding, old streets. After, re-board the coach and continue to Domaine Orsini where you can enjoy a visit to the Domaine Orsini winery. During your visit, learn about their process and the ways they combine both modern and ancient methods to produce their quality wine. There will also be a tasting of several of their wines before returning to Calvi by coach.

Caves of the Drach & Porto Cristo

A Majorcan visit is not the same without including the mysterious and otherworldly Drach Caves on your must-see list. Spread over 2000 metres, they are a natural wonder full of spectacular rock formations and home to one of the largest underground lakes in the world. The excursion begins with a coach ride across the island, passing through picturesque villages until you arrive at the Caves of Drach. Beautifully lit, you will walk along the paths where you can fully admire the beauty of these incredible caves before taking a trip across the underground lake accompanied by musicians playing classical music. After this magical visit, then continue along to Porto Cristo, a charming village popular with yachts as a result of its deep harbour. Whilst here, you will have half an hour of free time to enjoy the views from one of the many terraces or take a stroll around the promenade.

Majorcan Wine Discovery

Your day starts with a scenic drive passing by Palma’s Bay. Along the seaside, see the Yacht Marina with hundreds of boats and ships of all sizes and shapes, while a nonstop flow of bikers, runners and walkers travelling up and down the promenade beneath the palm trees. You’ll also see the sparkling life of this part of the city, with plenty of restaurants, pubs, hotels and shops - even enjoy a photo stop in front of the area’s impressive Cathedral.
The route then takes you behind Palma to go deeper inside the island. When reaching the rural countryside, you’ll make a stop at the Ramanya winery. Here, you will learn about the history of the facilities and the details of the wine cellar processes. Then follow this up by enjoying a tasting of some of the region’s distinguished wines paired with local tapas. At the end of the day, return to the coach for a scenic drive back to the pier.

Travel by coach through Palma city centre, enjoying a short panoramic tour before arriving at Son Reus Railway Station to board the historic Soller Railway. Since 1912, this three-foot gauge electric train has operated a daily service along the 17-mile route between Palma and Soller. Enjoy a panoramic view of the Majorcan Mountains, orange groves and quaint villages during your 50-minute scenic train journey which negotiates the 1¾ mile Tunnel Major through the Sierra de Alfabia and the Cinq Pons viaduct. On arrival in Soller, a charming little town set on a hillside, enjoy a short walking tour and the opportunity to explore independently during some free time before returning to the ship by coach.

This train is not exclusive to Saga guests and the carriage may be shared with other passengers. Depending on railway schedules, the train journey could operate in either direction and you may travel to Soller by coach and return by train or vice versa. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility, the tour involves an uphill walk of approximately 20 minutes to reach the centre of Soller from the coach and there are 28 steps leading to/from the train platform. There is an additional mile of essential walking required during your visit to Soller, the area is also hilly so expect to negotiate inclines. The railway carriages are not modernised, are unable to accommodate wheelchairs and do not have air-conditioning. Station platforms are low and there may be a wide gap between the platform edge and the carriage door. The train ride includes 13 tunnels, some of which are quite long, so may not be suitable for passengers who suffer from claustrophobia.
Arrabida Mountains and Lisbon Bridges
Walking difficulty: Panoramic tour
This excursion takes you to the lesser explored area south of Lisbon – Arrábida. During the running of the tour, cross the two impressive bridges that connect the two sides of the Tagus river. After leaving the port we will cross the Vasco da Gama bridge an immense bridge, measuring over 10 miles long and named after the great explorer Vasco da Gama, who found the sea route to India in 1498. Then cross the town of Setúbal which used to be a bustling port during Roman occupation before arriving at the Arrábida Natural Park. This incomparable natural beauty is where the blue of the sea alternates with the white tones of the chalk cliffs and the depths of the green vegetation that covers the mountain range.
Continue past Azeitão where the wines produced in the surrounding area are still famous today, especially the table wines and the “muscatel” wine. We will then find our way back to the ship crossing the April 25th suspension bridge, one of Lisbon’s most outstanding landmarks. Until the bloodless revolution on 25th of April, it was named Salazar Bridge. The bridge was completed on August 6th, 1966, afterwards, a train platform was added, connecting the city with the municipality of Almada.

Lisbon Vintage Tram and Port Wine

If you want to take in the sights and absorb the atmosphere of Lisbon at a relaxed pace, finishing with a taste of the local tipple, then this tour is for you. Lisbon’s vintage trams are among the city’s icons, and this tour includes a ride on one of these historical vehicles. A coach will take you into the heart of the city where you will board a traditional wooden-bodied tram for a scenic one-hour journey through Alfama and Bairro Alto, two of the oldest districts of the city which are characterised by winding alleyways and whitewashed houses with flowers on their balconies. Following your tram journey, you will visit a local establishment and be served a glass of white port accompanied by white chocolate; you can then enjoy a glass of ten-year-old Tawny port with a miniature ‘Pastel de Nata’ cake. The tour would not be complete without a panoramic coach ride through the city, viewing some of Lisbon’s famous landmarks such as the Monument to the Discoveries, Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, the far end of the Edward VII Park, the Rossio district and St George’s Castle.

The trams are authentic historical vehicles and are accessed by a steep flight of three steps. There is no commentary during the tram ride, but your guide will describe the journey before you board. The trams are exclusive to Saga passengers. You will need to walk at least 250 yards from the tram to the port tasting venue.
Lisbon Tuk Tuk Tour

Within the depths of Lisbon’s old quarters, narrow cobbled streets weave their way past cafes and bars, leading to several landmarks which you’ll see during this tour. The areas are often inaccessible to cars and buses, however, there is one mode of transport that is well-equipped for this sightseeing exploration – the ‘tuk tuk’. This three-wheeled vehicle inherits its nickname from the noise that early models once made – a spluttering ‘tuk tuk tuk’. Since their creation over fifty years ago, the design has evolved – many tuk tuks are electric, and Lisbon is Europe’s E-Tuk capital of the world! Climb aboard your miniature tour vehicle, accompanied by your knowledgeable driver guide. Pass through Bairro Alta and the district known as Alfama before arriving at the Nossa Senhora do Monte viewpoint. Near St George’s Castle, it offers a sweeping view of the city below. The tour continues through the city’s steep and narrow, historic streets. There is a brief stop at Chiado in the centre of Lisbon, an elegant and bohemian neighbourhood, between Bairro Alto and Baixa Pombalina. It is frequently compared to Paris’ Montmartre district, rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire in 1998. The most famous streets are Rua do Carmo, which houses the ruins of a church by the same name and Rua Garrett, in the centre of Chiado. See the square and its surrounding streets, packed with cafes, theatres and museums. Then, enjoy a traditional snack of marmalade and cheese paired with a glass of port before returning to the ship.

Please consider taking an additional layer of clothing as elements of the ride may be colder than expected. The step up into the vehicle may be steep with compact seating. This tour is unsuitable for guests with walkers.
Lisbon Downtown Walking Tour

From natural disasters to wealthy traders, the history of Lisbon is punctuated by dramatic rises and falls. The city suffered extensive damage during the 1755 earthquake, but its
cobbled winding streets and wide-open squares can still be seen. A walking tour is the ideal way to get up close to the city’s most significant examples of historical architecture, starting with Alfama – a labyrinth of narrow cobbled alleyways, flanked by colourful houses. The area was once located outside of the city walls and was inhabited by the city’s sailors and dock workers. Continue to 12th-century Sé de Lisboa, the cathedral of Lisbon, an important site of pilgrimage and one of Portugal’s most significant monuments. On your way to Rossio, once the liveliest square in the city, your guide may point out the Elevador de Santa Justa – a marvel of 19th-century industrialisation. The elevator utilises wrought iron as decorative art. Enjoy a stop at Confeitaria Nacional – one of Lisbon’s oldest coffee shops. After some refreshments, walk through Rua Augusta, passing through its arches to reach Praca do Comércio, also known as ‘Black Horse Square’, named after the statue of King Jose I which occupies a dominating central position. Your final destination is Casa dos Bicos. Built in the 16th century, the house boasts a ‘pincushion façade’ consisting of 1125 diamond-shaped spikes. After walking among Lisbon’s historical architecture, you return to the ship.

Sintra and Sintra National Palace

Drive to the charming town of Sintra, where you can admire many stunning buildings and works of art. The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on account of its 19th-century romantic architecture. On arrival you will visit Sintra National Palace, also known as Palácio da Vila, famous for its magnificent painted ceilings. The palace is the only survivor of the country's Royal Halls, dating from the Middle Ages. One of the highlights is its kitchen, complete with huge 110-feet high conical chimneys. After your visit to the palace, stop for refreshments, and then enjoy free time to explore on your own. The town has retained much of its medieval layout, with labyrinthine streets, flights of steps and arcaded buildings. On your return journey to the ship you will follow a section of the scenic ocean road, and pass the Belém district with its famous tower.

During the visit to Sintra Palace there will be one hour of standing and essential walking covering a maximum of 500 metres. There are approximately 120 steps and a winding staircase inside the palace. Walking during time at leisure is at your discretion, but please note Sintra Town has cobbled streets, steps and inclines.
