Gibraltar

Watching over the entrance to the Mediterranean, stands the unmistakable limestone Rock of Gibraltar. At its base lies Gibraltar which is connected to the end of the Iberian Peninsula by a sandy isthmus and offers an intriguing blend of British and Spanish culture. Discover Gibraltar’s Palladian architecture and typically British sights, such as red pillar boxes and familiar highstreet chains, during an included panoramic excursion. Alternatively, visit the military museum or ascend the limestone monolith by cable car for panoramic views and to meet the mischievous Barbary macaques. From the top of the Rock you can look out over two continents: Africa lies just 13 miles to the south, whilst Europe stretches to the north.

Palamos, Spain

The idyllic fishing village of Palamos on the Costa Brava is renowned for its white-sand beaches, hidden coves and rich history, complete with relics of its Catalan and Roman past. Historic highlights include the 12th-century castle of Sant Esteve de Mar and the remains of the 13th-century Vila-Roma Castell – Roman Town Castle – located in the Montagut neighbourhood. The coastal scenery here has inspired many famous artists including Dali, Picasso and Chagall.

Sète, France

Packed full of authentic French charm, this down-to-earth port rewards visitors with a glimpse of traditional maritime life. The waterfront homes of the low town are divided from Mont St-Clair’s high town by a series of canals, earning Sète the epithet of the ‘Little Venice of Languedoc’. Explore the old fisherman’s quarter, cosy cafes and galleries.

Port Vendres ⚓, France

Port Vendres, a new port for Saga cruises, has been an active harbour town since the 6th century and was fortified by military architect Vauban in the 17th century on the command of Louis XIV. The Place de l'Obelisque features an 18th-century obelisk in homage to Louis XVI, while the Place Castellane is home to an exhibition relating to artist Rennie Mackintosh, who lived here for several years.

Mahon, capital of Minorca, lies in a sheltered natural harbour. The rocky shoreline is dotted with elegant Georgian-style architecture, a throwback to its period of 18th-century British occupation. The museum in Fort Marlborough offers a look back at this era. Other attractions close by include 19th-century Mola Fortress, built to prevent the return of the British, and Far de Favaritx lighthouse. Leixoes (for Oporto), Portugal
Arrive 0800. Depart 1700.
From Leixoes, an included panoramic excursion will take you to Oporto. It is set beside the Douro River which has served as the lifeblood of the city for centuries. On one bank lies Villa Nova de Gaia’s port wine lodges, which produce the city’s famous fortified wine, while on the other is the UNESCO-listed Ribeira old town. Cobbled streets climb the steep hillside which is crammed with historic buildings, including the 12th-century cathedral, neoclassical Stock Exchange and Manueline-style Church of Santa Clara. The wooden Rabelo cargo boats, which once ferried barrels of port now carry sightseers along the river – the Ponte Dom Luis I bridge offers a good vantage point from which to appreciate the entire riverscape.

Scenic Rock Tour - Included Excursion
Walking difficulty: Panoramic tour
You start the tour by heading towards the airfield runway to reach the British/Spanish Frontier. Proceed towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Here, alight from your tour vehicle to take some photographs of the views of the busiest shipping lane in the world, the mingling of the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and two continents. Then it’s time to head to the Rock of Gibraltar. You will drive down to Princess Caroline’s Battery and enjoy the scenery from the Nature Reserve, the Bay and the Spanish Mainland along with a wide selection of Mediterranean flora and fauna along the way. After, travel via the Upper Rock area, passing by the Moorish Castle and the Tower of Homage that still bears the scars of battle.
Additional Information
This is a coach-based excursion with most of the sightseeing taking place from your vehicle. Any walking at any short photo stops will be at your discretion. The duration of this tour is dependent on traffic. Any type of wheelchairs, scooters or foldable walkers are not permitted on the buses. These can be brought to the bus and then stored at the terminal until you return from the tour.
The Beacon and Leisurely Pals - Included Excursion
Walking difficulty: Easy Activity
Enjoy a scenic drive en route to the beacon of San Sebastain, rising roughly 650 feet above sea level. As one of Cataluna's most important beacons, it holds the distinction of being Spain's first to illuminate a radius of 50 miles. Pause here to capture the view before continuing by coach to the medieval village of Pals. Nestled within the Emporda region, Pals boasts preserved Gothic architecture. You will have 30 minutes at leisure to explore the village or unwind in one of the cafes before returning to Palamos.
Additional Information
There is approximately 250 yards of essential walking during this excursion. All other walking is at your discretion. Pals is made up of some cobbled and paved ground and there is an incline if you wish to walk to the tower.
Island Highlights – Included Excursion
Walking difficulty: Panoramic tour
From the pier, take a short transfer to the idyllic Arenal d’en Castell, where a brief stop is scheduled for you to enjoy the views over Arenal and the Addaia Fortress. The next stop will be Monte Toro, the island’s spiritual centre. At the summit of this hill is the Sanctuary of the Mother of God of Toro, run by a Franciscan community of nuns. At the top, there is a statue of Jesus of the Sacred Heart, whose pedestal is dedicated to those Menorcans who died during the Moroccan war. Return to the port, following a photo stop at the top of Mounte Toro.

Snapshot of Oporto - Included Excursion
Walking difficulty: Panoramic tour
This sightseeing tour of Oporto allows you to capture the colourful, rising architecture of this city, from the comfort of your tour vehicle, with plenty of photography stops – so keep your camera fully charged. See the Monument to the Peninsular War, commemorating the military conflict between Napoleon’s empire and Spain. Your guide may then point out the House of Music – a curiously modernist piece of architecture curving up from the ground: the sights then seem to come thick and fast: Crystal Palace’s domed form, surrounded by greenery, Clérigos Tower – built by the city’s Brotherhood of Clerics – and Avenida dos Aliados, a popular street filled with shops. As you pass the Sao Bento Railways Station, you will quickly spot the city’s cathedral, boasting a wonderful blend of Baroque and Romanesque architecture. Cross over the Infante Bridge, which offers views across the historical centre before following the river back to the ship, past the Ribeira quarters.

Alameda Gardens and Cable Car Ride

Stroll around the Alameda Gardens before capturing views of The Gibraltar Rock on a scenic cable car ride. This tour will also take you to delight in the collection of plants at Alameda Gardens, which are an important conservation project. First, join your guide who will point out the various plants, sights and wildlife whilst also describing its rich history as you wander around the grounds. Gibraltar’s cable car is the territory’s only purpose-built tourist attraction, and you then have the chance to ride up to the very top of the Rock. Enjoy free time to wander around the many terraces and capture the views of the city of Gibraltar to the west and the coastline of Africa to the south. After your tour, a shuttle service will take you straight back to the ship, or you may prefer to be dropped off in the Irish town pedestrian area to explore the many shops. Alternatively, relax in a pub or cafe, before making your own way back to the ship.

There is approximately one mile of walking. This excursion operates by mini-bus, cable car and on foot. The ground at the gardens is generally paved with steps and some steep gradients. Please expect queues and crowds at the cable car and be aware that the cable car may not operate during harsh weather conditions which can also affect the views you will see. Passengers are reminded that Gibraltar’s apes may be encountered on this excursion and should not be touched or fed as they may bite. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Fortress Gibraltar and the WWII Tunnels
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Learn about Gibraltar's unique wartime history on this tour. Begin by travelling past the British/Spanish Land Frontier. Your first stop is Europa Point, site of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Britain, where you can savour dramatic views of the Atlantic merging with the Mediterranean. Next you will be taken to the nature reserve, home of the Northern Defences Sector, where you might be able to catch a glimpse of Gibraltar’s most famous residents, the mischievous Barbary apes. Continue to the Hays Level where you begin a guided tour and visit the exhibition which displays a collection of photographs illustrating the history of the World War Two tunnels.
Additional Information
This tour involves walking of up to approximately three-quarters-of-a-mile lasting around 45 minutes with a steep incline of 450 yards on the way out of the tunnels. There are some low ceilings in the tunnels. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Andalusian Farmhouse Visit
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
A short drive around the Bay of Gibraltar – with a photo opportunity of ‘the Rock’ en route – takes you to the edge of a Natural Cork Forest Park. Here you can visit a typical Andalusian farmhouse dating from 1797 with a patio and old barns. This building is part of a family-run cork and cattle farm. Andalucía produces half of the world´s cork and this area boasts a special high-quality cork sold to the international wine trade market. As well as the bountiful supply of oak trees, view the deep red local ‘Retina’ breed of cattle on the farm, one of Spain´s purest breeds, and enjoy some refreshments. You then have an opportunity to step inside the traditional farm shop selling local products such as leather and cork goods, excellent quality olive oils and sherries. This excursion involves 400 yards of essential walking and standing for over one hour. In addition, you may be required to get off and on the coach to walk across the border check point. Dolphin Watch
Walking difficulty: Easy Activity
Go in search of dolphins and other marine life on this aquatic-creature based boat trip. Gibraltar’s bay boasts three species of dolphin and seven species of whale, as well as sunfish, flying fish and turtles. After departing from your ship, take the short drive to the ‘Dolphin World’ pleasure cruiser. Then, after setting off into the bay, learn about the history of this tiny colony, and you will be given an insight into the marine life of the bay with a running commentary from your guide. After landing, return transport will be available back to the ship, or if there’s enough time, you can choose to walk into town for shopping and a little independent exploration.
Additional Information
We recommend that you take some warm clothing for the boat ride. This excursion involves up to 280 yards of walking to reach the vessel and a couple of steps to board the vessel unassisted. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, and refreshments can be purchased on board if you wish. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Panoramic Gibraltar and Gin Distillery

From the quayside, travel north towards Gibraltar’s unique runway to the border between this small British Overseas territory and Spain. Proceed along the outskirts of town, passing the American War Memorial and The Trafalgar Cemetery to arrive at Europa Point. After a panoramic tour, you will be dropped off in front of the Bristol Hotel in Main Street, where you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue. The tour begins with a brief history of the Art of Distilling, plus an insight into gin production before a comprehensive timeline of gin’s chequered past. At the end of the gin tasting experience, take home a complimentary sample of your favourite spirit.you will be greeted by the Distillery Manager who will walk you to the venue. Garrisons Library
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
This tour takes you on a journey through the rich history of Garrison Library, intertwined with the narrative of Gibraltar. Leaving the port, take a short coach transfer to Garrison Library. In the lower Reading Room, a static display of books narrates the evolution of the library from its inception to the present day. The upper Reading Rooms showcase a Noteworthy artifact – a sandglass from around 1830. The sandglass was once used to time readers eagerly awaiting delayed news from England, notably from newspapers like The Times. The Garrison Library holds a unique position as the pioneer of print culture in Gibraltar, with the establishment of the first printing press in 1801 and the birth of the Gibraltar Chronicle in the same year. Today the Gibraltar Chronicle remains in print and stands as the second oldest continuously published English newspaper. During your visit, archival copies of both The Times and the Gibraltar Chronicle will be available for you to admire. In the Upper Reading Room, you'll encounter a portrait of the esteemed founder, Colonel Drinkwater, and the Ball Room. This unusual feature leads to a balcony offering a panoramic view of the garden. You will also witness the digitisation process in the state-of-the-art studio, where the team preserves the valuable newsprint collection for future generations.

City of Girona
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
Girona is a compact city in Spain’s northeastern Catalonia region known for its medieval architecture and walled old quarter. Your tour begins with a one-hour transfer to the city of Girona. During your time here, delve into the city’s rich heritage with a visit to the 17th-century cathedral, enjoy a guided walk in the medieval Jewish Quarter and walk down the Ramblas. There will also be the opportunity for time at leisure to explore independently before returning to the ship.
Additional Information
There is up to two miles of essential walking and up to 90 steps, therefore this tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. You should dress conservatively when visiting religious sites – shoulders and knees should be covered and we recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. You can request a packed lunch from the ship to take with you on this tour.
Medieval Pals and Rice Train
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Leaving the port of Palamos, travel by coach to Pals, a medieval town. The town boasts a cobblestoned old quarter and is home to the iconic Tower of the Hours, a Romanesque structure built between the 11th and 13th century. Explore the Gothic Quarter with your guide, enjoying a walk along the cobbled streets with its arches, pointed windows and stone balconies. After exploring the city with your guide, enjoy some time at leisure before boarding the local train to learn about the process of rice production, from planting to harvesting. During the journey, you’ll pass by the marshlands and rice fields of Pals with the Montgri mountain in the background. Your train stops at the historic el Moli de Pals, where rice has been milled and processed since the 15th century. Discover more about the processing of rice during a visit to the mill before returning to Palamos by coach.

Dali Castle and Wine Tasting

Salvador Dalí is widely recognised for the intriguing and unconventional imagery displayed in his surrealist art. The Castle Museum, nestled in Pubol, served as the official residence of his wife, Gala. Originally constructed in the 14th century during the height of affluence in the Pubol Barony, this three-story building was acquired by Dalí in 1970 as a promise to Gala that he would buy her a palace. It became exclusively her abode, with Dalí only permitted to visit by invitation. Upon acquisition, the castle was restored – reflecting Dalí's distinctive style; many imperfections were creatively transformed into unusual, open spaces. Additionally, sculpture, artwork, and busts were added to the grounds and gardens. Today, the castle preserves numerous items of clothing, furniture, ornaments, and artwork from its former occupants. Accompanied by your guide, immerse yourself in this unique tribute to the master. Following your visit, a short drive will bring you to Mas Oller, a local vineyard, where you can sample Catalán wine and refreshments. After you will return to Palamos by coach.

Empuries and Begur

Discover the village of Begur in Girona, celebrated for its distinctive characteristics and rich history. See the medieval ruins of the Castle of Begur and enjoy some time at leisure to explore the village. Your tour continues to Empuries, a Roman city that dates back to 550 BC. The name Empuries derives from emporium, signifying a marketplace or commercial hub, which accurately describes its historical role. It was strategically located near the delta of the River Fluvia and multiple trade routes, making it a crucial commercial port in the Mediterranean. During your visit you will have the opportunity to marvel at examples of Greek and Roman town buildings and their unique features. Explore the market, agora and holy areas, including the temple of Jupiter. Admire the ingenuity of the Greeks as they adapted buildings to the terrain, contrasting with the Roman’s preferred grid-like city patterns and layouts.

There is over one mile of essential walking, some of which will be over uneven terrain and inclines. There will be up to 10 steps to access certain parts of the sites. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Medieval Aigues Mortes
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
Leaving Sète, your coach takes you to Aigues Mortes, a fortified town in the heart of the Petite Camargue. In the eighth century AD, Emperor Charlemagne erected a tower on this site to safeguard the coast. However, the town wasn't established until 1240, when King Louis IX required a harbor to dispatch his troops for the Crusades. Louis himself sailed from here with the Seventh and Eighth Crusades in 1248 and 1270. The fortifications were completed by his son, Philip the Bold, in 1272 and form one of the finest examples of a walled town in Europe. Of particular interest is the Constance Tower, which formerly served as a lookout post where sentries could keep watch for Saracen invaders. Embark on a walking tour with your guide here, followed by some leisure time before returning to Sete.

The Medieval City of Carcassone
Walking difficulty: Strenuous Activity
The fortified medieval city of Carcassonne is one of the jewels of the Languedoc and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A fortified settlement has existed at the top of the hill since pre-Roman times, reflecting medieval architecture. Join a guided tour to delve into Carcassonne's rich history, with the preserved streets and buildings offering a glimpse into the past. Following this, spend the next couple of hours at leisure, taking in the sights at your own pace. Notable attractions include the imposing fortress, adorned with 52 fairytale towers and ramparts, Marcou square, and the Basilica St Nazaire.
Additional Information
There is extensive walking of approximately two miles, often over cobbled streets, some uphill. Walking during free time is at your discretion. There will be approximately two-and-a-half-hours of free time. The drive to Carcassone should take around two hours each way, depending on traffic. Lunch is not included; however, you can request a packed lunch from the ship. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Montpellier by Tourist Train
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc region and is a city that combines old charm and a modern metropolis. Departing from Sète, you'll journey to Montpellier by coach. On arrival, a brief stroll will lead you to the tourist train, which will take you to explore the city's key highlights. See Montpellier Cathedral, Place de la Comeide in the heart of Montpellier, and Porte du Peyrou. Following your train tour, there will be some free time to explore at your own pace. Perhaps browse the shops or relax in one of the local cafes before returning to Sète by coach.

There is approximately half-a-mile-of essential walking. Walking during free time is at your discretion. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. There is approximately one hour of free time. The drive to Montpellier takes approximately one hour. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes.
Languedoc Wines and Thau Lagoon Oysters
Walking difficulty: Moderate Activity
The Thau Lagoon is a paradise for oyster and wine lovers. Nestled in the heart of the Thau archipelago, you will visit a local oyster producer, providing an opportunity to sample their oysters and gain insight into their farming methods. Afterwards, the tour continues to the Languedoc Vineyards, situated along the Mediterranean coast. Domaine St Andre, spanning 30 hectares, boasts a diverse array of grape varieties, offering 14 distinct grapes to discover. With a local guide, embark on a circuit marked with informative panels and an audio guide, learning about the wine and its history. There will also be an opportunity to visit the recently renovated cellars and enjoy a tasting of three wines before returning to Sète by coach.

Leisurely Mount St Clair and Bouzigues

Enjoy a panoramic tour of Sète on this coach-based tour. Admire a view over Sète, the sea and the Thau Lagoon. After a 45-minute drive from Port Vendres, discover Perpignan with your guide on foot and enjoy the mix of Gothic art and Art
Deco. Witness the town hall spanning from the 13th to 17th centuries, the ancient navy tribunal 'La Loge,' the St Jean Cathedral, and the historic fortified gateway and symbol of the town, 'Le Castillet.' The guided tour of Perpignan's main sights also includes an inside visit to the Palace of Mallorca Kings. Situated in the heart of Perpignan, this palace dates back to the 13th century and served as the kingdom of Mallorca for over a century. The construction of the castle started before 1274 and was completed in 1300. The styles changed from late Roman to Gothic style. During the drive, you'll encounter resorts and homes clinging to the Albères mountains, forming the last foothills of the Pyrenees. Pass through villages which have served as inspiration for countless painters, and admire the Cote Vermeille or rocky coast - featuring Coullioure which is still a favourite spot for many modern artists. Along the way, pass by Banyuls-sur-Mer, famous not only for its bay but also as the birthplace of Aristide Maillol. During the drive, there will be several stops to enjoy the area. Then your scenic drive will return to Port Vendres.

Cadaques at Leisure

Cadaques sits right on the Cap de Creus Peninsula in Spain and is fringed by beaches and coves. Leaving the harbour of Port Vendres, board the bus and travel along the coastal road to Cadaques, a retreat nestled between mountains and sea. On arrival, stroll allong the cobbled streets and enjoy just under three hours of exploration time at leisure. Perhaps visit the waterfront promenade or venture into the historic quarter. Salvador Dalí gave Cadaques international fame as he spent long periods of time here during his childhood, as well as establishing his home there. His house-museum, beside Port Lligat bay, is where you can see some of his work. If you have time, make sure to try the rich culinary traditions and specialties of the country. Return to Port Vendre by coach later in the afternoon.

Continuing your stroll, your guide will introduce you to the history of the island and delve deeper into the influences of different cultures that have joined the population here. Next, you’ll pause outside the Santa Maria Church to admire the exterior pillars and side chapels before stopping by Teatro Principal De Mao – built in 1829, titled Spain’s oldest opera house. After your visit, it’s time to head back to the ship by foot with your guide, taking in the passing sights one last time.

After taking some photographs your tour continues to Ciutadella. On arrival, enjoy a guided walking tour of the city, which will pass the Cathedral, which was built on the foundations of an old mosque. After your walking tour you return to the port by coach.

Enjoy a short drive to the Arenal d’en Castell, which boasts an expansive view over the Arenal and Addaia Fortress. This quaint Spanish island is also home to the Caribbean-like Cala Tirant – a surf beach set on the northernmost point of Minorca, which you’ll be able to see from a distance during your tour. Continuing to the fishing village of Fornells, you can take in some more blue landscapes with the surrounding bay before heading to the key highlight of your tour: Binissues. Home to a farm and museum manor, tradition and history intertwine in a rural environment, giving you the most authentic experience of Minorca. During your visit, you can see a traditional working farm in action, alongside the stately home with richly decorated rooms. Also, explore a peasant farmer’s house and an old straw loft housing relics of the peasant past, revealing what daily life was like over a hundred years ago. While here, you will also find out about Minorca’s most popular cocktail drink, Pomada, first made for the British Sailors who were stationed on the island for over a century. Travel directly to the centre of the city to see Porto’s tallest building – the Clérigos Tower Discover why the 246-foot tower was so important before making a visit to one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world – according to Time, The Guardian and Lonely Planet: Livraria Lello. Upon entering, bathe in the art nouveau splendour, featuring Gothic-revival elements and dominated by a crimson staircase. Continue to the Sao Bento Railway Station, important for more than transporting passengers from A to B. The walls are decorated by blue and white artistic mural, recognising poignant moments from Portugal’s past. Your next destination is the Congregados Church, built during the 17th century and designed by André Soares. Finally, pass along Rue Santa Catarina – Porto’s main shopping street – and arrive at a nearby cafe. You then have some free time to continue your exploration before returning to the ship.

On this half-day tour, explore the city of Aveiro, nestled along the Ria de Aveiro. The city is distinguished by its canals, often filled with vibrant boats and lined with Art Nouveau style buildings. Capture some of the city on foot before navigating the canals by local boats, called Moliceiros. These slender and colourful vessels were historically used to collect algae and seaweed and are now used for sightseeing. Following your scenic ride, indulge in a taste of the local delicacy, "ovos moles," a sweet confection made from eggs and sugar originating from Aveiro, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine. On your return journey by coach, capture the colourful fishermen’s houses, known as Palheiros, along the Costa Nova beach.

Oporto by Tuk Tuk

Explore Oporto by Tuk Tuk as you depart from the cruise terminal, tracing the coastline towards the city. As you drive through Oporto, you’ll spot its historic landmarks including the Palacio da Bolsa, the UNESCO São Bento railway station and Porto Cathedral. Take in panoramic views of the city from Gaia and Jardim do Morro before delving into the city's core, where you can explore Rua Santa Catarina. There will also be the opportunity to enjoy a glass of port wine and a local sweet treat before returning to the ship by Tuk Tuk.
Additional Information
The Tuk-Tuks vary in size and, dependent on the seating configuration, will seat between two and four guests for a shared experience. The drive starts at the terminal in Matosinhos, so your tour includes a drive in the Tuk Tuk to and from Oporto, it takes at least 5-10 minutes to reach the formal entrance of Porto marked by the Castelo do Queijo roundabout and up to 25 minutes to reach the historical centre. The walking on this tour is minimal and at your discretion as most of the excursion is on the Tuk Tuk. You will need to walk from the ship to the Tuk Tuks. There are three steps to negotiate at the refreshment stop and a step to access the Tuk Tuks.
