On all cruises we set aside a number of cabins within each level at a discounted fare, with the highest discount of 35% for ocean cruises and 25% for river cruises available on selected levels. These cabins are sold on a first come, first served basis. As cabins are sold, the discount begins to reduce, and continues to reduce until those selected cabins are sold.
This means that the earlier you book, the higher the chance of securing a greater discount. Our price panels clearly show the full cruise price, along with the current discount fare.
Please note: During busy periods for holiday bookings, the early booking discount can reduce rapidly. We recommend that you book early to benefit from the best booking discounts and to secure your preferred cabin.
When promoting new cruises for the first time, we contact customers on our Advanced Registration list first, allowing then to secure the cabin of their choice and benefit from the best savings. Our brochures are then sent out to loyalty club members first, followed by past cruise goers and then everyone else.

"I cannot wait to welcome you on board this scenic cruise to my homeland, Croatia. I am delighted to have been involved in the development of this itinerary which begins by visiting a new port of call for both me and Saga's Spirit ships, Melilla, a tiny Spanish enclave on Morocco’s north African coast."
"Next, I plan to cruise into Valletta at sunrise for you to witness the incredible changing colours of the city. The Grand Harbour here is overlooked by forts built by the Knights of St John. From here, we will cruise into the Adriatic Sea to visit Split. One of the main highlights here is the UNESCO-listed centre, which evolves around the Diocletian’s Palace. You can look forward to a particularly picturesque sailing in and out of Split, through the islands off the Dalmatian Coast."
"Our next port of call is new to Saga Cruises, Opatija, which I refer to as the Monte Carlo of Croatia. It is an elegant seaside town with grand hotels, well-maintained public gardens and a seven-mile coastal promenade. Next, we continue along the coast for an extended visit to Rijeka, close to the bay where I live. Croatia’s third largest city, Rijeka, has a colourful past and an interesting mix of old and new architecture. It also offers a gateway to the beautiful Plitvice lakes and Croatia’s historic capital city Zagreb."
"Our next stop will be at the island of Krk and its medieval walled capital, before continuing to Dubrovnik. March is the ideal time to explore this white stone city, away from the crowds of summer. Highlights include St Blaise’s Church, the Onophrian Fountains and Sponza Palace. Bidding a fond farewell to my homeland, we will cruise into the Bay of Kotor to explore the medieval walled town of the same name. On our return journey we will call at the scenic islands of Corfu, Sicily and Majorca, and enjoy a day in Gibraltar, overlooked by its iconic limestone Rock."

Rijeka, Croatia’s third largest city, has a tumultuous past owing to its prized deep-water port. An interesting mix of old and new, its Hapsburg heritage can be seen in the city centre’s Austro-Hungarian style buildings. Rijeka was nearly destroyed in 1813 by the Royal Navy hot on the heels of Napoleon’s fleet, save for the brave actions of a local merchant’s daughter. In the face of unrelenting fire, she is said to have bravely walked up to the highest-ranking officer and, following an undocumented conversation, the military action subsequently ceased. The port now bears her name, Carolina of Rijeka, and if you study nearby St Vitus Church, you’ll see a cannonball wedged in a wall which remains as a reminder of how close the city came to destruction.

Ancient Wonders of Segesta
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Visit the ancient site of Segesta where a guided tour will reveal the Temple and the Greek Theatre.
Drive west through the countryside to the enigmatic ancient site of Segesta, on the summit of Monte Bàrbaro, about 1,000 feet above sea level. Now uninhabited, this was once a major city of the Elymian people, who according to legend were descended from the Trojans.
A Greek colony in the sixth century BC, Segesta later came under Roman control but was gradually abandoned in favour of the port city of Castellammare and was finally destroyed by the Saracens in AD1000. The site is most famous for its beautiful Greek temple, one of the best-preserved of all surviving ancient temples. Dating from the fifth century BC, it is nearly 200 feet long and about 85 feet wide, with 14 Doric columns on each side and six across the front and back. The temple appears never to have been finished: it has no evidence of ever being roofed, and its columns are not fluted.
From the temple, a local shuttle-bus takes you uphill to the Greek theatre, carved in a semicircle from the hillside, its rows of stone seats enjoying views over the surrounding valleys. Near the theatre you can see the ruins of an Arab mosque, a Romanesque church and a Norman castle, as well as the remains of other ancient buildings that still await excavation. Segesta owes its fame to its scenic location and to the fact that the old city has never been built over in modern times. After time at the Visitors’ Centre, you rejoin your coach for the journey back to the port with a short orientation tour of Palermo on the way.
Additional Information
Please note: Expect to walk approximately half-a-mile over uneven, steep terrain with around 50 steps to the temple from the coach park. The guided visit to Segesta is approximately one-and-a-half hours and will be entirely on foot. This tour is graded as strenuous due to the type of terrain and periods of standing throughout. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. Warm clothing may be required as it can be chilly. The drive to and from Segesta will take approximately one-and-a-half hours.

The building today is the seat of the Sicilian Parliament.
The tour continues to Monreale for a visit to the famous cathedral, said to be the most beautiful Norman church in Italy and completed by William the Good in 1174. With its thick walls and powerful towers, Monreale’s exterior looks like an austere fortress. It is the interior of this great cathedral which is its crowning glory. Palermo City Tour and Cappucini Catacombs
Activity Level: Strenuous Activity
Take an orientation tour of Palmero and visit the Cappucini Catacombs.
The 17th-century catacombs, created for Palermo’s Capuchin monks, have been variously described as ‘the place where the living meet the dead’, and, a little less tactfully, ‘a bone-chilling experience’. When those in the brotherhood died, space for their burial was a major concern: the first cemetery was filled, and a second mass grave was created – also reaching capacity in 1697. Realising that the ancient caves beneath the monastery would provide a suitable space, the already-buried brothers were exhumed with the intention of re-burying them in the caves.
However, something miraculous had happened: despite the passing of more than two years, 45 bodies had been perfectly preserved. This act of natural mummification was declared a miracle and the brothers’ bodies were displayed as once-living relics. Between the 17th and 20th centuries almost 8,000 people were buried in the catacombs: wealthy citizens, celebrities, children and professionals were allowed to be buried alongside friars and other religious men. What once was a private cemetery of friars became a museum of death.
On arrival at the site, walk along its corridors and learn the names of those displayed in its niches and coffins: Rosalia Lombardo, for example, who became the final entombed resident in 1920 and is nicknamed ‘Sleeping Beauty’, due to her immaculate preservation. Following your visit – and perhaps thankful for the natural light and fresh air – you then embark on a panoramic tour of the city, past the circular Teatro Politeama, Porta Felice and the Marina area. You will stop for some free time outside Massimo Theatre, before returning to your awaiting ship.
Additional Information
Please note: There is up to 650 yards of essential walking and at least 40 steps to negotiate. Any additional walking during short free time is at your discretion. You will spend approximately one hour at the Catacombs. Due to preservation reasons, the light in the catacombs is limited. The Catacombs contain mummified human remains. This excursion is not suitable for those with a nervous disposition. The order of sights may vary.
