This included excursion takes you on a leisurely sightseeing drive, with three short photo stops. Leave the port, passing Santa Catarina Park, and travel west towards the Santa Rita area, before arriving at your first photo stop offering a view of Funchal.

Your drive continues to your second photo stop at Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the coastline, surrounding hills and the city. Next, drive southwest, passing Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque fishing village, once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Pause for a short photo at Pico da Torre viewpoint, which offers a view of the bay and the fishermen’s village below.

Having seen Funchal and its surroundings from three viewpoints, you head back to your ship.

After a short coach transfer, you will arrive at the Botanical Gardens nestled in the verdant hills overlooking Madeira’s capital. Once the grounds of a private estate, these gardens are now one of the island’s most celebrated attractions, renowned for their beauty and diversity. Spread across five hectares, they showcase more than 2000 species of plants from every continent – some endangered in their native habitats – alongside a wealth of Madeira’s own flora.

You will have time to explore independently, to wander at your own pace and take in the fragrance of blossoming flowers and the vibrant palette of greens, reds, yellows, and purples. Each step unveils new wonders, including viewpoints that offer sweeping vistas of Funchal and the island’s coastline.

Please note: To explore the gardens, you should expect to walk up to one mile. You should be physically fit to participate on this excursion due to the terrain and high number of steps. The tour begins with a short transfer by coach to the old town where, on arrival, you will set off on foot with your guide past the public gardens to Santa Maria Street, which is renowned for its painted doors, and you can learn more about the painted doors project from your guide.

Next, head to the local farmers market where stalls are brimming with tropical fruit, flowers, fish and regional products. While at the market you can taste a traditional Pastel del Nata - Portugals beloved custard tart. Having explored on foot, you will head back to your ship by coach.

Take in the highlights and views of La Palma on a scenic drive around the island.

Beginning from the pier in Santa Cruz de la Palma, your drive takes you firstly to the Mirador de la Concepcion, stopping for photos at this viewpoint before continuing to the Caldera de Taburiente. After pausing at the visitor centre, continue by coach to Mirador de La Cumbrecita, where you will stop for photos at the look out. The drive then continues to the western part of La Palma through Los Llanos de Aridane. Enjoy vistas of Los Llanos, surrounded by cacti and banana plantations, before returning to your ship via the town of El Paso.

Enjoy time at leisure in La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage town, before driving through northern Tenerife, pausing at Humboldt viewpoint for a short photo stop.

Your tour begins with a drive through the main Santa Cruz avenue known as ‘Las Ramblas’, passing by the now disused bullring and Parque García Sanabria. Next, head towards La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage town, where you can spend time at leisure. You will have approximately 30 minutes here to explore the historic market in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, officially known as Mercado Municipal de La Laguna.

Afterwards, reboard your coach and head north, pausing at the Humboldt viewpoint for a short photo stop before returning to the ship.

Discover Tenerife’s most striking natural feature, Mount Teide, without the exertion of a demanding hike.

Your excursion begins with a drive to La Tarta viewpoint, where you will pause for a short photo stop. After passing through the photographic surroundings, journey south along the base of the mountain range, through pine forests and foothills to Teide National Park, declared a national park in 1954.

The park features an enormous volcanic crater measuring over 29 miles in circumference and within it is Mount Teide, rising to a height of 12,000 feet. It is the highest peak in Spanish territory and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The park is situated at an altitude of over one mile above sea level: in winter, snow and gale force winds often close roads through it; during the summer months, the arid landscape gives visitors the impression of having walked onto the set of a western movie and can reach temperatures of over 37°C.

At the heart of the crater, you visit the National Parador Visitors’ Centre and stand in the shadows of the majestic Roques de García. During the tour, a stop will also be made for a tea or coffee before returning to your ship in Santa Cruz.

Please note: Walking during this excursion is at your discretion but you should expect to walk at least 500 yards over some uneven surfaces, and there may be a considerable amount of standing. Join this introductory tour of Northern Gran Canaria visiting the village of Teror and the Duchess Gardens.

Leaving Las Palmas, a one-hour drive brings you to Teror. On arrival, set off on a short, walking tour with your guide. Enjoy an outside visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pine, considered one of the most important churches in the Canaries after shepherds saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary nearby.

Next, continue by coach, passing the town of Arucas, as you make your way to the Los Jardines de la Marquesa (The Duchess Gardens). Established in 1880 by the island’s first Marquis, the gardens opened to the public in 1985. Spend approximately 40 minutes here allowing you the opportunity to stroll through the gardens, filled with Canarian and tropical plants, before returning to the ship.

Sit back and enjoy some of the sights of southern Gran Canaria at a relaxed pace, with time at leisure in the picturesque resort of Puerto de Mogan.

Begin by travelling south towards Playa del Ingles, the island’s main resort, where you will pause for a short photo stop to see the Maspalomas sand dunes with their rippling sands and sinuous curves. Next, head to a viewpoint overlooking modern Puerto Rico apartments built into the side of the hills that rise from the shoreline.

Afterwards, you travel to the resort of Puerto Mogan. This resort, with its backdrop of hills, white houses festooned with Bougainvillea and beachside promenade, offers a haven to enjoy some free time. During one-and-a-half hours of free time, perhaps stroll along the harbour, browse the shops or simply relax in one of the cafes before returning to Las Palmas.

This drive involves winding roads and is not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo. The drive to reach the first viewpoint in the south of the island (Playa del Ingles) will take approximately one hour. The return drive to the ship from Puerto de Mogan will take approximately 45 minutes. The duration of this tour and free time can be affected by local traffic conditions.

Enjoy an introductory stroll through Vegueta, the historic Old Town of Las Palmas, before visiting the Columbus Museum.

A short coach transfer will bring you to the south of city where you will arrive in Vegueta – the site of the original settlement founded in 1478, when the troops of Juan Rejón moved in and began the conquest of the Canaries.

With your guide, stroll the streets before heading to Casa de Colón, a small museum housed in a colonial-style former governor's house. Said to have been visited by Columbus in 1492 when one of his ships was repaired, the museum showcases his voyages and highlights the connection between the Canaries and America.

After a chance to admire the exterior of Cathedral of Santa Anna, then you head back to the ship.

Enjoy a snapshot tour of Lanzarote to see Teguise, Caleta Famara Beach and Monumento al Campesino.

Travel from the pier inland to the historic town of Teguise, founded in the 15th century by the Conquistadors. On days when there is no market, you will be able to admire the beautifully restored houses and picturesque square.

Next, continue to Caleta Famara Beach, which Lanzarote artist César Manrique frequented as a child. A short photo stop will be made here, then the drive continues through the typical Canarian villages of Soo, La Santa, Tinajo, Tiagua and Mozaga as you make your way to your final stop at the Peasants’ Monument (Monumento al Campesino). The monument is 50-feet high and was created by Manrique in 1968 as a tribute to the work of the island’s peasant farmers.

Then it is time to head back ship.

Travel south to Puerto del Carmen, a popular seaside town. You will have approximately four hours of free time to explore at leisure; perhaps take the opportunity to settle down in one of the cafes on the seafront promenade or perhaps browse the shops for souvenirs.

After your visit, meet at the designated meeting point for your return transfer to the port.

Please note: This is a transfer to Puerto Del Carmen and is unguided. An escort will accompany you on the coach journey only, with no commentary. You will have approximately four hours of free time to explore independently. Discover the city of Lisbon on this panoramic sightseeing tour. Leaving the port, drive past the Jerónimos Monastery, built using limestone over a period of 100 years starting in 1501; UNESCO-listed Belém Tower, constructed with the primary objective of protecting the bay; the Monument to the Discoveries; the pink façade of Belém Palace, the official residence of the Portuguese president; the new Coach Museum; Avenida da Liberdade, the most central avenue in Lisbon and a popular shopping district for both tourists and locals; and Edward VII park.

You will also cross the 25th April suspension bridge over the Tagus River to see the imposing statue of Christ the Redeemer. Stretching across the estuary to the Tagus River in Lisbon the suspension bridge is considered as a twin sister of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco because of its similar design. The bridge is an impressive sight, and it also offers a breathtaking view when crossing it. Visible from most parts of Lisbon and beyond, the statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Rei) stands a striking 270 feet high on its angular pedestal, overlooking the south bank of the Tagus River. One of Portugal’s most iconic landmarks standing tall with its robed arms outstretched, it was erected in 1959 and modelled on the famous Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro.

Then, enjoy your scenic drive back to the port.

Explore downtown Lisbon on foot on this introductory walking tour. Starting from the pier your guide will take you to the lower section of the Alfama district, through the labyrinth of narrow cobbled alleyways, passing by the Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa), which was built in the 12th century, here you will have an exterior view before continuing to Figueira and Restauradores squares on your way to Rossio, once the liveliest square in the city.

You can see the exterior of the Dona Maria National Theatre before continuing to Rua Augusta and Praça do Comércio, also known as “Black Horse Square”, named after the statue of King José I which has a central position.

Having explored the sights of downtown Lisbon you will return to your ship.

Go in search of the whales and dolphins in the sea surrounding Madeira, accompanied by a marine biologist and skipper.

After a short transfer to the marina, there will be a briefing before your adventure begins; then set off on your RIB, fully equipped for observing a variety of marine life. Thanks to lookouts on land who will guide your boat towards the mammals, which may include Short-finned Pilot Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Common Dolphins that often leap from the water displaying their acrobatic moves as they swim alongside the boats.

If you are lucky, you may also spot a Risso’s Dolphin, a Beaked Whale or an Orca, all of which are occasional visitors to Madeira.

Leave Funchal and travel west to the Pico da Torre viewpoint from where you can see Câmara de Lobos and the surrounding landscape. Next, the drive continues inland through the mountains to Eira do Serrado. Here, you can enjoy a tasting Bolo de Mel, a traditional Madeiran cake, and Poncha, a traditional Madeiran drink made with aguardente de cana (sugar cane rum), honey, and fruit juice. After admiring the scenic view at Eira do Serrado, head to Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view over Funchal, the coastline, and the surrounding hills.

Your excursion concludes with a scenic drive back to Funchal and your awaiting ship.

The ride continues towards Garajau, a coastal area famous for its Cristo Rei statue. Visit Quinta de Santa Luzia for a tasting of Blandy’s Madiera Wine.

Located near the centre of Funchal, a short drive will bring you to Quinta de Santa Luzia, a traditional working Quinta that has been in the Blandy Family for seven generations. The vines here are cultivated in trellis form and on large terraces. This vineyard has been recognised for its efforts to improve to more sustainable methods of viticulture and the protection of biodiversity in the vineyard.

On arrival at Quinta de Santa Luzia you can enjoy a guided tour of the vineyards, gardens and bio farming area. This will be followed by a tasting of several Blandy’s Madeira wines paired with local snacks on the Quinta’s terrace.

Please note: Expect to walk just over half a mile. The terrain will be uneven with cobblestones and there will be 40 steps to negotiate. This is a small group tour with limited availability. It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and bring a jacket or cardigan as temperatures cool down in the evening.

Late evening, depart from the ship and travel by coach for 30 minutes towards the mountains at the centre of the island to discover the Magic of the Night Sky. You will stop at a viewpoint in Pico do Areeiro for your stargazing observation. Different telescopes will be available for you to use to view the night skies, spot visible night sky objects such as planets, the moon and star clusters.

After your observation experience, drive to Poiso where you will stop for a tea or coffee before returning to the ship.

Please note: There is 150 yards of essential walking and 4 steps to negotiate. You will spend approximately two-and-a-half hours stargazing at the viewpoint – there are no opportunities to sit, you will be required to stand for the entirety, therefore this tour has been graded Moderate. Visibility is dependent on weather conditions and therefore observations cannot be guaranteed. The opportunity to use the restroom will be approximately three hours into the tour.

Leaving the port, you travel off road through mountains, across small rivers and along valleys capturing scenic views of the island. The route the jeeps take is subject to weather conditions across the island, and your driver will give you a detailed itinerary on the day. Throughout this tour, you will have ample opportunities to discover and learn about the island’s native flora and fauna, including the Laurissilva forest.

Towards the end of the drive you will pause and enjoy a refreshment before returning to your ship.

Follow the course of The Levadas and admire the mountain scenery and green farmland that cover Madeira.

Following a ‘Levada’ trail is one of the most enjoyable ways of exploring Madeira. These irrigation channels were created in the 19th century by the Portuguese settlers, who painstakingly carved them out of the rock by hand. Designed to carry fresh water from the north to the drier southern regions of the island, they helped to create many of the lush landscapes that can be seen today.

This guided walk will follow the course of The Levadas for approximately three-and-a-half miles, allowing you to admire the verdant plants, mountain views and Madeiran farmland. Your tour begins with a drive to Vale Paraiso, where you set off for your two-hour walk. The first half will be a gentle stroll over fairly level ground, rising to the Camacha area for its surrounding views. The second stretch will take you all the way to Rochão, where you rejoin the coach for the return journey to the port.

Head off the beaten track in a 4x4 bus to explore the island's volcanic vistas, shaped by volcanic activity over the past century.

Board your 4x4 bus at the pier and head towards the hills of Las Breñas, crossing thick vegetation and looking over Cumbre Nueva, the island’s main mountain range. Continue into the mountains, across the National Park and on towards the Refugio del Pilar, until you reach the Mirador del Jable viewpoint. From this natural balcony enjoy a panoramic view of the Aridane Valley, the Caldera del Taburiente and the Cumbre Nueva hills.

Reboard your bus, to continue your adventure through volcanic scenery and along off-road tracks, pausing at the San Juan volcanic area, where you will be able to see a flowing lava river before crossing a large area of Canary Island pine. Pause to tuck into some traditional Canarian snacks before driving to the town of Fuencaliente. You will stop here to see the San Antonio volcano and the Teneguia volcano.

First, take a drive along the island’s main highway to Puerto de la Cruz, an old colonial town on the north coast. The first garden you visit is the Jardin Botanico, founded by a Royal decree of King Charles III of Spain in 1788. He wanted to create a nursery where plants, shrubs and flowers, brought by the Conquistadors from the New World, could acclimatise to Spanish soil. Many of the plants here are the original specimens, delivered shortly after the opening of the garden. The centrepiece is a huge South American fig tree whose branches and roots have created an outlandish treehouse.

Next, a short drive brings you to the Orchid Gardens of Sitio Litre, which have welcomed many distinguished visitors including the famous crime writer Agatha Christie. Seek out whales and dolphins in their natural habitat in the waters of southern Tenerife on board a catamaran.

Leaving the pier, travel one-hour by coach to the harbour of Puerto Colon in Playa des Las Americas. On arrival, board one of the catamarans (not exclusive to Saga guests) in search of whales and dolphins. Pilot and sperm whales lurk in the waters around the island of Tenerife all year round and you may also see dolphins or other species of whales if you are lucky. During the catamaran trip, drinks will be served and you will have some free time to swim if you wish or sunbathe on the Catamarans netting.

After spending approximately three hours on the catamaran you return to the ship by coach.

Please note: The boat used during this excursion is not exclusive to Saga guests and this tour is un-guided. Set off on a scenic drive through north Tenerife towards the Orchid Gardens. En route, you will pass through Oratava Valley, pausing for photographs at the Humboldt Viewpoint. Have your camera ready to capture the view here, which stretches from Mount Tiede to the coast of Puerto de la Cruz. The viewpoint is named after the explorer and naturalist Alexander Humboldt, who visited the island in 1799. He also visited the garden that previously stood on the site of what is now the Orchid Gardens, established in 1774 and the oldest on the island.

On arrival at the gardens, you will be welcomed by one of the owners who will act as your guide. In their company, explore the garden with its water feature, Dragon Tree, believed to be over 400 years old, and of course the collection of orchids, housed and displayed in a curving walkway. Past visitors to the garden include the author Agatha Christie and the prolific and celebrated Victorian botanical artist, Marianne North.

After your garden visit, take time to relax in the Orchid Gardens’ cafe as you enjoy some refreshments before returning to your ship.

Visit three locations in northern Gran Canaria on this half-day excursion - Bandama Crater, Village of Teror and the Duchess Gardens.

Embark on a five-mile hike around the Bandama Crater.

The Bandama Caldera is one of the youngest volcanoes on the Canarian archipelago. Its crater is over 650 feet deep, has a diameter of almost three-quarters of a mile and was last active about 3,000 years ago, when a series of eruptions took place that gave the Santa Brígida district its distinctive topography. Leaving the pier, your coach will take you up towards the volcano.

Here, begin your trek along a green path that takes you right into the heart of the Bandama Crater. At the centre of the crater, you will see an abandoned homestead; this was formerly the only inhabited volcanic crater in the world! From this point, enjoy interior views of the crater which will reveal the effects of the eruptions. After resting for a while, continue walking up the side of the crater: depending on the weather, you should be rewarded at the end with a panoramic view of the northern part of Gran Canaria.

Then, rejoin your coach and transfer back to the port.

Visit the Mirador del Rio viewpoint and Jameos del Agua underground cavern – both of which showcase César Manrique’s architectural talent.

The tour begins with a coach transfer to the north of Lanzarote to visit the Jameos del Agua Cave. César Manrique turned what was once a water hole in the earth’s surface into an inspiring volcanic cavern and exotic subterranean water garden, Jameos del Agua.

On arrival, you descend into the cavern via a winding staircase leading down to the underground, natural lake. This underground lake is slightly illuminated by the sun and is home to the blind albino crab, which are unique to Lanzarote.

Your guide will tell you how they were created and how they were used as a refuge by the island’s inhabitants when escaping in the past from invaders or pirates. Part of the cave network has been equipped with electric light, and one section has been converted into an underground concert hall.

Please note: Expect to walk approximately three-and-a-half miles. The trek will be over uneven terrain including loose stones and steep gradients, with around 30 rough steps. Good walking boots are recommended. There are low sections inside the caves where you may be required to bend down as you walk to pass through. Climb aboard your miniature tour vehicle, accompanied by your driver guide. Pass through Bairro Alta and the district known as Alfama before arriving at the Nossa Senhora do Monte viewpoint. Near St George’s Castle, it offers a sweeping view of the city below.

There is a brief stop at Chiado in the centre of Lisbon, an elegant and bohemian neighbourhood, between Bairro Alto and Baixa Pombalina. It is frequently compared to Paris’ Montmartre district, rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire in 1998. The most famous streets are Rua do Carmo, which houses the ruins of a church by the same name and Rua Garrett, in the centre of Chiado. Visit the charming town of Sintra, where you can admire many stunning buildings and works of art.

The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on account of its 19th-century romantic architecture. On arrival you will visit Sintra National Palace, also known as Palácio da Vila, famous for its magnificent painted ceilings. The palace is the only survivor of the country's Royal Halls, dating from the Middle Ages. One of the highlights is its kitchen, complete with huge 110-feet high conical chimneys.

After your visit to the palace, stop for refreshments, and then enjoy free time to explore on your own. The town has retained much of its medieval layout, with labyrinthine streets, flights of steps and arcaded buildings. On your return journey to the ship you will follow a section of the scenic ocean road, and pass the Belém district with its famous tower.

Please note: During the visit to Sintra Palace there will be one hour of standing and essential walking covering approximately 550 yards. There are approximately 120 steps and a winding staircase inside the palace. Walking during time at leisure is at your discretion, but please note Sintra Town has cobbled streets, steps and inclines. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. Guests must be physically fit to participate on this tour.

The drive to Sintra will take approximately one hour, the return drive to the ship will take one-and-a-half hours. You will have approximately one hour at the Sintra National Palace, followed by one-and-a-half hours of free time.

Leaving the port, your journey by coach takes you over the 25th April bridge and on a scenic drive to Sesimbra, an old fishing village which lies at the foothills of the Serra da Arrábida mountain range. The village is lined with traditional whitewashed houses, overlooked by Sesimbra’s Moorish Castle.

Enjoy an exterior visit of the castle for approximately 30 minutes before the tour continues by coach to Azeitão. Azeitão is located in the nature reserve of the Serra da Arrábida and is known for its tasty regional products. During your time in the area, you will visit one of the local wine cellars and have the opportunity to taste the Moscatel wines.

The tour concludes with a scenic drive through Arrábida Natural park before returning to the ship.

Please note: This tour includes two visits: one to the exterior of Sesimbra Castle, where walking is over uneven ground, but is at your discretion, and the second is to a winery, where 350 yards of essential walking is required over uneven ground with up to 40 steps. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes.
