This included excursion takes you on a leisurely sightseeing drive, with three short photo stops.

Leave the port, passing Santa Catarina Park, and travel west towards the Santa Rita area, before arriving at your first photo stop offering a view of Funchal.

Your drive continues to your second photo stop at Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the coastline, surrounding hills and the city. Next, drive southwest, passing Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque fishing village, once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Pause for a short photo at Pico da Torre viewpoint, which offers a view of the bay and the fishermen’s village below.

Having seen Funchal and its surroundings from three viewpoints, you head back to your ship.

Discover Funchal’s old town and market on this introductory walking tour.

The tour begins with a short transfer by coach to the old town where, on arrival, you will set off on foot with your guide past the public gardens to Santa Maria Street, which is renowned for its painted doors, and you can learn more about the painted doors project from your guide.

Next, head to the local farmers market where stalls are brimming with tropical fruit, flowers, fish and regional products. While at the market you can taste a traditional Pastel del Nata - Portugals beloved custard tart. Having explored on foot, you will head back to your ship by coach.

Please note: Expect to walk approximately three-quarters of a mile, some of which will be over cobblestone ground. The walk through the old town will take approximately 30 minutes, followed by time to explore the market. The coach transfer will take approximately 15 minutes each way. Take in the highlights and views of La Palma on a scenic drive around the island.

Beginning from the pier in Santa Cruz de la Palma, your drive takes you firstly to the Mirador de la Concepcion, stopping for photos at this viewpoint before continuing to the Caldera de Taburiente. After pausing at the visitor centre, continue by coach to Mirador de La Cumbrecita, where you will stop for photos at the look out. The drive then continues to the western part of La Palma through Los Llanos de Aridane. Enjoy vistas of Los Llanos, surrounded by cacti and banana plantations, before returning to your ship via the town of El Paso.

Enjoy a snapshot tour of Lanzarote to see Teguise, Caleta Famara Beach and Aloe Vera Farm.

Travel from the pier inland to the historic town of Teguise, founded in the 15th century by the Conquistadores. On days when there is no market, you will be able to admire the beautifully restored houses and picturesque square during a short stop. Next, continue to Caleta Famara Beach, which Lanzarote artist César Manrique frequented as a child. A short photo stop will be made here.

Next, the drive takes you through the charming, typical Canarian villages of Soo, La Santa, Tinajo, Tiagua, and Mozaga. You will then pass through the La Geria wine region, famous for its unique, ash-covered landscape where grapevines are grown in volcanic hollows. Your final stop is at an Aloe Vera Farm, where you will have approximately 30 minutes to learn about the island's celebrated Aloe Vera, which thrives in Lanzarote's volcanic soil and is used in numerous ways.

After your farm visit, you will return directly to the ship.

Enjoy a snapshot tour of Cádiz. Since the end of the 15th century, the ancient city of Cádiz has provided a gateway to the New World. Throughout this panoramic tour, you will see several sights from the coach including the cathedral, historic city walls and Puerta de Tierra. You will also see some of the settlements surrounding Cádiz, such as San Fernando and Puerto Real, before returning to the port.

Take a stroll through Cádiz on this introductory walking tour to see some of the city’s highlights. Begin your walking tour from the pier, where you set off on foot through the city’s maze of narrow lanes. First, visit San Juan de Dios Square, nestled in the heart of the historic centre.

Then continue to Cathedral Square to admire the exterior view of Cádiz Cathedral. From here, continue walking until you arrive outside the Roman Theatre – the second largest of its kind built by the Romans in Spain. Next, walk to the atmospheric El Pópulo Quarter and on to the vibrant Flower Square.

As the guided walk concludes, you can choose to return to the ship or remain in the old town to explore at leisure, making your own way back to the ship.

Go in search of the whales and dolphins in the sea surrounding Madeira, accompanied by a marine biologist and skipper.

After a short transfer to the marina, there will be a briefing before your adventure begins; then set off on your RIB, fully equipped for observing a variety of marine life. Thanks to lookouts on land who will guide your boat towards the mammals, which may include Short-finned Pilot Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Common Dolphins that often leap from the water displaying their acrobatic moves as they swim alongside the boats.

If you are lucky, you may also spot a Risso’s Dolphin, a Beaked Whale or an Orca, all of which are occasional visitors to Madeira.

Please note: There is an essential walking distance of 350 yards and up to 10 step to negotiate. Access to the boat is along a wooden boardwalk that may be wet and slippery. You must be able to climb in and out of the RIB boat unaided. Dexterity is required to get on and off the high-positioned seats. This trip is not recommended for those with back problems. Explore Madeira on this half-day 4x4 excursion.

Leaving the port, you travel off road through mountains, across small rivers and along valleys capturing scenic views of the island. The route the jeeps take is subject to weather conditions across the island, and your driver will give you a detailed itinerary on the day. Throughout this tour, you will have ample opportunities to discover and learn about the island’s native flora and fauna, including the Laurissilva forest.

Towards the end of the drive you will pause and enjoy a refreshment before returning to your ship.

Visit the village of Monte, take a cable car ride over the valley of Joao Gomes and explore the botanical gardens.

Leave the pier and drive towards Monte, known for its collection of fine properties and gardens, perched on a hill above Funchal.

Monte’s 18th-century, twin towered church is one of the area’s most prominent landmarks. In the centre of the high altar of the church stands the statue of Our Lady of Monte, credited with being the source of many miracles. Make your way to the cable car station in Monte and take a short ride to the botanical gardens.

Along the way, enjoy the view across the Valley of João Gomes River before reaching the gardens, located on the eastern edge of Funchal and known as one of the best examples of Madeiran landscaped gardens. Located in the grounds of a former private house, the gardens are host to a profusion of plants and flowers, from all parts of the world, which thrive in the island’s temperate climate.

Please note: This is a strenuous excursion where extensive walking is required over cobbled, uneven ground, many steps and steep inclines. Walking of up to one mile is essential and this may increase dependent on the garden visit. There are 40 steps in Monte Village (and an optional 75 steps to visit the church), 65 steps at Monte cable car station and 20 steps at botanical gardens cable car station and between 50-100 steps during the visit to the garden. We recommend that you wear flat walking shoes. You should be physically fit to participate on this excursion. You will spend approximately one hour at Monte, and one-and-a-quarter hours at the botanical gardens. The drive to Monte will take approximately 30 minutes. The return drive from the botanical gardens to the ship will take approximately 30 minutes.

Admire the scenery from three viewpoints, then head to Adega da Quinta Restaurant for a refreshment.

Leave the pier and journey to the belvedere of Pico dos Barcelos, which offers a sweeping panorama. Continue to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, which was once painted by Sir Winston Churchill. Known for its quaint, red-roofed houses and brightly painted fishing boats, its name translates to ‘The Sea Wolves’ Lair’. To reach Cabo Girão, your coach takes you through pine woods and eucalyptus forests. Cabo Girão is said to be the second-highest sea cliff in Europe: it rises right out of the sea, and the viewpoint where you stop for photos offers coastal views along Funchal, and out to the distant horizon. Your journey then takes you up into the mountains, passing the vineyards of Estreito de Câmara Lobos, one of the most important winegrowing areas on the island.

Arriving at the Adega da Quinta Restaurant, at Quinta do Estreito, you can enjoy more coastal views and sample local wine and Portuguese cheese before returning to the ship.

Please note: There is approximately 550 yards of essential walking, some over cobbled, steep and sloped ground (assuming you participate in walking at the photo stops). There are 10 essential steps to negotiate, at the Pico da Torre viewpoint there are a further 30 shallow steps however these are optional. Each viewpoint stop will last approximately 25-30 minutes. Follow the course of The Levadas and admire the mountain scenery and green farmland that cover Madeira.

Following a ‘Levada’ trail is one of the most enjoyable ways of exploring Madeira. These irrigation channels were created in the 19th century by the Portuguese settlers, who painstakingly carved them out of the rock by hand. Designed to carry fresh water from the north to the drier southern regions of the island, they helped to create many of the lush landscapes that can be seen today.

This guided walk will follow the course of The Levadas for approximately three-and-a-half miles, allowing you to admire the verdant plants, mountain views and Madeiran farmland. Your tour begins with a drive to Vale Paraiso, where you set off for your two-hour walk. The first half will be a gentle stroll over fairly level ground, rising to the Camacha area for its surrounding views. The second stretch will take you all the way to Rochão, where you rejoin the coach for the return journey to the port.

Visit viewpoints including Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, before heading to Eira do Serrado to enjoy traditional Madeiran delicacies.

Leave Funchal and travel west to the Pico da Torre viewpoint from where you can see Câmara de Lobos and the surrounding landscape. Then, the drive continues to Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Take in the view of the valley below from its glass-floored skywalk, and see Curral das Freiras (Nun's Valley).

Next, the drive continues inland through the mountains to Eira do Serrado. Here, you can enjoy a tasting Bolo de Mel, a traditional Madeiran cake, and Poncha, a traditional Madeiran drink made with aguardente de cana (sugar cane rum), honey, and fruit juice. After admiring the scenic view at Eira do Serrado, head to Pico dos Barcelos. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view over Funchal, the coastline, and the surrounding hills.

Your excursion concludes with a scenic drive back to Funchal and your awaiting ship.

Your bike will be in the capable hands of an experienced rider who is also a qualified local guide, and who will take you on a ride along the eastern side of Funchal. From the pier, you will head into Funchal’s Old Town, known locally as the Zona Velha.

Next, your ride will take you to the viewpoint of Pináculo. The ascent offers picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. The ride continues towards Garajau, a coastal area famous for its Cristo Rei statue. As you make your way back to Funchal, the drive will bring you along a scenic coastal route before re-entering the city’s historic centre, passing the city hall and cathedral before returning to your ship.

Meet your Tukxi driver-guide at the pier and step aboard your open-air tuk-tuk for a ride past the city's highlights. Your drive takes you through Funchal's historic Old Town. Pass through Santa Maria Street, the heart of the Old Town, as your driver shares stories of Funchal's cultural and artistic heritage. Stop at the Sé Cathedral, an example of Gothic and Manueline architecture, take a moment to admire its intricate wooden ceiling and beautiful stained-glass windows.

The drive continues through the Cultural Quarter, a hub of history and creativity. Next, you will drive to the imposing Fortaleza do Pico, a 17th-century fortress that once defended Funchal against pirate attacks. Marvel at its robust structure and enjoy a panoramic view of the city before heading back to your ship in Funchal.

Please note: Expect to walk approximately 350 yards over cobblestones and up to 15 steps. The Tuk Tuk seats two guests, therefore if you book this excursion, you will be sharing the Tuk Tuk with one other guest. Please consider taking an additional layer of clothing as elements of the ride may be colder than expected. The step up into the vehicle will be high and you must be able to board the Tuk Tuk unaided. The Tuk Tuks are small vehicles with compact seating and the ride may be bumpy. Enjoy a boat ride along the coast of Tazacorte in search of whales, dolphins and other marine life.

Leaving the pier, journey west for the one-hour drive across the island to the coastal town of Tazacorte. Here, you will embark the boat set off in search of marine life. A number of different whale species, including pilot whales, and several species of dolphins can be spotted off the coast of La Palma. The boat’s crew will be on hand to provide information on the marine environment and its inhabitants, and to answer any questions about the wildlife and the surrounding area. You may also have the opportunity to see the newly formed lava delta after the La Palma Volcano Tajogaite erupted in 2021.

Following the boat trip tour you will have approximately one hour of free time to stroll around the little town of Tazacorte before returning to your ship in Santa Cruz.

Additional Information

Please note: Expect to walk 300 yards. Further walking during your free time is at your discretion. To embark and disembark the ship you will need to negotiate a ramp and three steps, which you will need to be able to do independently. The drive to and from Tazacorte will take approximately one hour each way. The boat trip will last approximately two-and-a-half hours. You will have approximately one hour of free time in Tazacorte. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. The boat is not exclusive to saga guests. Access to the restroom on the boat is via a vertical ladder. This tour is not recommended for guests suffering from vertigo or motion sickness due to the winding roads to and from Tazacorte. A soft drink is included; additional drinks can be purchased on board.

Head off the beaten track in a 4x4 bus to explore the island's volcanic vistas, shaped by volcanic activity over the past century.

Board your 4x4 bus at the pier and head towards the hills of Las Breñas, crossing thick vegetation and looking over Cumbre Nueva, the island’s main mountain range. Continue into the mountains, across the National Park and on towards the Refugio del Pilar, until you reach the Mirador del Jable viewpoint. From this natural balcony enjoy a panoramic view of the Aridane Valley, the Caldera del Taburiente and the Cumbre Nueva hills.

Reboard your bus, to continue your adventure through volcanic scenery and along off-road tracks, pausing at the San Juan volcanic area, where you will be able to see a flowing lava river before crossing a large area of Canary Island pine. Pause to tuck into some traditional Canarian snacks before driving to the town of Fuencaliente. You will stop here to see the San Antonio volcano and the Teneguia volcano.

After admiring the view at approximately 633 metres above sea level, return to the ship by road.

Please note: During this tour you will travel by 4x4 bus, the route can be bumpy and winding roads are taken, those that suffer with motion sickness should take precautions. Seat belts must be worn at all times when on the bus. This tour is not recommended for those with back, neck or hip problems. Although there is minimal walking on this tour, you must be able to get on and off the 4x4 bus unaided with five high steps to negotiate. This tour is for a small group and there is limited capacity. Traditional snacks are included (examples: Canary potatoes, serrano ham, cheese with wine).

Explore the north of La Palma, admire the scenery and sample Rum.

From the pier, travel by coach north to the viewpoint ‘Mirador de La Galga’, perched on the edge of two deep-cut gorges, pause here to take in the view. Next, continue driving to the evergreen forest of Los Tilos, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and home to colourful indigenous flora.

Next, your drive passes through the little town of Los Sauces, and then onwards to the coast passing Charco Azul as you make your way to the little, charming village of San Andrés, built around a whitewashed church and criss-crossed by cobbled streets. After visiting the village, head to the Tendal Museum (Parque Arqueológico El Tendal) where you can learn about the inhabitants of the island.

The final visit on the tour is to the Rum Factory ‘Ron de La Aldea’, which has been producing rum since 1969, while here you can enjoy a taste of the local tipple before heading back to your ship having explored the north of the island.

Discover the scenery, wine and customary crafts of La Palma.

Your drive takes you through vineyards, passing pine trees and quaint little villages as you journey towards the south of the island. Arriving at Fuencaliente, you will visit the San Antonio Volcano, where you can explore the visitor centre and get closer to the crater – conditions permitting, you can walk around the rim of the crater.

Next, you will visit a typical bodega, where you can sample local red and white wine before continuing to your final stop, ‘Julio’s House’ a cigar-making museum, where you can see how cigars are made by hand. La Palma is famous for these cigars, which are exported all over the world.

Afterwards, return to your ship in La Palma.

Please note: Expect to walk at least 500 yards, with up to 10 steps to negotiate. Further walking at the San Antonio Volcano Visitor Centre is at your discretion. Walking to and around the volcano crater is optional - If you choose to view the volcano crater there is a further walk of at least 550 yards along uneven paths, which have inclines to a viewpoint. If you wish to venture further, you must follow your guides instructions and stay away from the edge of the walking trail as there are no handrails or barriers. The terrain near the volcano is uneven with some gravelled stone paths. The drive to San Antonio Volcano will take approximately 45 minutes. You will spend approximately 45 minutes at San Antonio Volcano and visitor centre, 45 minutes at the Bodega and 30 minutes at Julios House. This tour is not recommended for guests suffering from vertigo and those with limited mobility.

Visit the El Paso Silk Museum and the restored 17th-century sugar estate, Hotel Hacienda de Abajo.

Sit back and enjoy the scenery as you travel along mountain roads, passing vineyards and banana plantations en route to El Paso. On arrival, a short stroll takes you to the small silk museum where you can witness silk being weaved by a 500-year-old process – the only place in Europe where this method is still used.

Afterwards, you visit a restored 17th-century sugar estate, now the boutique Hotel Hacienda de Abajo. Surrounded by rich vegetation and botanical gardens, this historic manor house exhibits a collection of art, including sculptures, paintings, furniture, porcelain, and tapestries. On arrival your guide will take you on a tour of the main rooms.

Afterwards, as you make the return journey to Santa Cruz, a short photo-stop will be made at La Glorieta Square, allowing you to admire the mosaics by local artist Luis Morera.

Enjoy this small group tour as you embark on a scenic drive in an open top minibus, followed by a walk through the streets of La Palma.

Board your open top minibus at the pier and drive to the Mirador de la Concepcion on the outskirts of Santa Cruz de la Palma. Marvel at the panoramas over the town and north coast of the island before heading onto the Santuario Virgen de Las Nieves, located in the highest part of the town and one of the most popular shrines in the capital. Inside the small, whitewashed church, you will find the island’s most sacred icon, the Virgin Mary of the Snows - the patron saint of the island.

Continue to the Barco de la Virgen in the main town of Santa Cruz de la Palma, a replica of Columbus’ Santa Maria. Take a guided walk to discover the streets and squares including Plaza Alameda, Plaza San Francisco, and Placeta Borrero. Admire the two-storey, Renaissance-style Town Hall and the 17th-century Iglesia del Salvador church before reboarding the bus to return to your ship.

Walk through the laurel forest of Los Tilos and on to the village San Andres y Sauces as you admire the coastal view.

Venture through Los Tilos Forest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve home to a profusion of ferns, trees and other indigenous species. The tour begins with a short panoramic drive into the hills to Mirador de la Concepcion, a vantage point with views over the city. From here, it is a 50-minute drive to Los Tilos, which translates as ‘laurel forest’. You then set out on a walk through this forest of ancient laurels, lime trees and giant ferns. During your trek, your knowledgeable guide will identify specimens and explain points of interest along the way.

Emerging from Los Tilos, continue your walk along a stretch of coast near San Andres before returning to your ship by coach.

Discover the unique night skies of La Palma, certified by UNESCO as a starlight reserve.

The tour starts with a one-hour drive towards the night sky lookout area. There will be a comfort stop along the way at the El Paso Centre before you head to the area of Llano del Jable, where the Astronomical Viewpoint is located. With your expert stargazing guide, you can use the telescopes and binoculars provided to admire the clear night skies of La Palma, spot visible night sky objects such as planets, the moon, star clusters and distant galaxies.

Please Note: There is approximately 250 yards of essential walking, over some uneven terrain. The stargazing will take place at an outdoor viewpoint. A suitable location will be chosen on the day and is subject to change. The viewpoint may be located near to a road or parking area. You will spend approximately one-and-a-half hours stargazing at the viewpoint – there are no opportunities to sit, you will be required to stand for the entirety, therefore this tour has been graded Moderate. We recommend that you wear warm, layered clothing. This tour has limited capacity. The drive to and from the viewpoint will take approximately one hour each way. Please be aware that the stargazing does not take place at an observatory.

Discover the landscape of Garajonay National Park as you hike through green forests and woodland with a local guide. This hike will take you up to El Alto de Garajonay, the highest point on La Gomera, 4,878 feet above sea level. From the summit, on a clear day, you may be able to see Mount Teide on Tenerife and the islands of La Palma and El Hierro. The tour starts with a coach ride along the south road to Garajonay National Park.

A short stop will be made at Agando Rock, to enable you to enjoy the view of Benchijigua Valley. Once you reach the National Park, you alight the coach and begin the hike which takes approximately two-and-a-half hours and goes through forests and woodland. Some of the species that grow here have completely disappeared in other parts of the world: one example is Erica Arborea, a heather plant that can grow to a height of over 50 feet.

After your hike, rejoin your coach and drive northwards through the National Park, passing the typical Canarian villages of Agulo and Hermigua, before returning to San Sebastian.

Please note: This is a strenuous excursion, and you should be physically fit to participate. The hike will last approximately two-and-a-half hours along steep mountain paths and uneven surfaces. The terrain may be muddy. Expect to cover a distance of approximately six-and-a quarter miles. Walking shoes are essential. The temperature will probably be much cooler at El Alto than at sea level, so you should dress in layers. The drive to and from Garajonay National Park will take approximately 45 minutes each way.

Ascend the hills of La Gomera and admire the view. There will be an opportunity to hear the whistling language, unique to La Gomera, during a short demonstration before heading to the visitors' centre.

Your coach will leave the capital behind and will follow the island’s arid slopes up to the wooded valleys. After climbing to around 4,000 feet, you arrive at Garajonay National Park, home to one of the world’s few surviving laurel woodlands, considered to be a ‘living fossil’. Here you pause at a viewpoint amid the rocky peaks and volcanic chimneys to photograph and take in the landscape, dotted with subtropical plants.

Driving further towards the west of the island, enjoy the view overlooking the palm-covered slopes of Valle Hermoso, before continuing to a Las Rosas restaurant for a light refreshment and a demonstration of ‘El Silbo’ - La Gomera`s unique whistling language. You also pause at the visitors’ centre and the Hermigua handicraft centre to view and have the opportunity to purchase handmade embroidery and other souvenirs.

Please note: This excursion involves walking at least 200 yards, with about 15 steps at La Rosas and 20 steps at the handicraft centre. This excursion includes driving along steep and winding uphill roads – if you suffer from vertigo or motion sickness you should take this into consideration. Enjoy a cable car ride to the summit of Mount Teide for an aerial view of Cañadas del Teide National Park.

Setting off from Santa Cruz your drive will take you through the Esperanza Forest and on to the National Park. On reaching the cable car station at approximately 7700 feet above sea level, a short stop will be made to admire the view before boarding the cable car. Be sure to have your camera close to hand during this eight-minute ride to the mountain’s 12,198-foot summit. You have free time here to take in the vista of sprawling mountains punctuated by rugged petrified rock.

Then, return to the lower station to rejoin your coach for a scenic drive that takes in more of this unique island’s countryside, before finally arriving back at the port.

Please note: There is approximately three-quarters-of-a-mile of walking during this excursion. Some over uneven surfaces and inclines. There are 25 steps to access the cable car. This excursion involves spending several hours at altitudes ranging from 7,500 to 12,000 feet above sea level. Each cable-car takes a maximum of 44 passengers and travels to the top in under eight minutes; you may need to stand in a queue while waiting to board. Seek out whales and dolphins in their natural habitat in the waters of southern Tenerife on board a catamaran.

Leaving the pier, travel one-hour by coach to the harbour of Puerto Colon in Playa des Las Americas. On arrival, board one of the catamarans (not exclusive to Saga guests) in search of whales and dolphins. Pilot and sperm whales lurk in the waters around the island of Tenerife all year round and you may also see dolphins or other species of whales if you are lucky. During the catamaran trip, drinks will be served and you will have some free time to swim if you wish or sunbathe on the Catamarans netting.

After spending approximately three hours on the catamaran you return to the ship by coach.

Please note: The boat used during this excursion is not exclusive to Saga guests and this tour is un-guided. Minimal walking is required but there are approximately eight steps to negotiate when getting on and off the catamaran, which you need to be able to do unaided. You must be a confident swimmer if you wish to go in the water.

All activities in the water are undertaken at your own risk. There are toilet facilities on board the boat and steps are required to access them. Comfortable clothing and sunscreen is recommended: please wear a swimsuit under your clothes and bring a towel if you wish to go swimming. Visit the Market of Our Senora of Africa before heading to La Laguna to stroll through the streets of the old quarter.

Leave the pier and head to the Market of Our Senora of Africa, built in 1940 with a North African style, the market continues to be a hub for the city of Santa Cruz and offers a range of products including local fruits, spices, teas and flowers. Having spent some time at the market, you will head to La Laguna. Admire the UNESCO-listed town centre, which was used as a template for the likes of Old Havana, Lima and Cartagena. Stroll through the streets of the old quarter on a walking tour, passing sights such as the city hall and the refurbished cathedral.

As you make your way back to the ship, you will pause at the Auditorium de Tenerife in Santa Cruz for a Canarian flavoured refreshment; a passion fruit mojito accompanied by a local snack whilst enjoying views out to sea.

Drive to see Tenerife’s diverse landscape, stopping to sample local wine and cheese before heading to La Laguna to visit the 18th-century ‘Iglesia del Cristo’ (Christ Church).

After leaving the busy harbour of Santa Cruz, enjoy a drive along Maritime Avenue to the village of San Andrés, one of the island’s oldest settlements dating back to 1497. The village is renowned for its golden beach, Las Teresitas, which was made partly from 238,000 tons of sand imported from the former Spanish Sahara. Pause for photographs here before driving to El Bailadero, the highest point in this area, offering panoramic views of a wild landscape. Through a tunnel, you will reach the other side of the Anaga Mountains and the hidden village of Taganana, where you stop to sample local wine and cheese.

Once refreshed, continue through the Mercedes Forest to Pico del Ingles and Jardina viewpoints: offering views of the countryside and northern coast. Return to Santa Cruz via La Laguna, pausing to visit the 18th-century ‘Iglesia del Cristo’ (Christ Church), providing a service is not taking place.

Your tour begins with a drive through the main Santa Cruz avenue known as ‘Las Ramblas’, passing by the now disused bullring and Parque García Sanabria. Next, head towards La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage town, where you can spend time at leisure. Discover Tenerife’s most striking natural feature, Mount Teide, without the exertion of a demanding hike.

Your excursion begins with a drive to La Tarta viewpoint, where you will pause for a short photo stop. After passing through the photographic surroundings, journey south along the base of the mountain range, through pine forests and foothills to Teide National Park, declared a national park in 1954. The park features an enormous volcanic crater measuring over 29 miles in circumference and within it is Mount Teide, rising to a height of 12,000 feet. It is the highest peak in Spanish territory and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The park is situated at an altitude of over one mile above sea level: in winter, snow and gale force winds often close roads through it; during the summer months, the arid landscape gives visitors the impression of having walked onto the set of a western movie and can reach temperatures of over 37°C. At the heart of the crater, you visit the National Parador Visitors’ Centre and stand in the shadows of the majestic Roques de García. During the tour, a stop will also be made for a tea or coffee before returning to your ship in Santa Cruz.

The abundant colour and sheer variety of plants, flowers and vegetation that thrive in the Canary Islands is the focus on this excursion.

First, take a drive along the island’s main highway to Puerto de la Cruz, an old colonial town on the north coast. The first garden you visit is the Jardin Botanico, founded by a Royal decree of King Charles III of Spain in 1788. He wanted to create a nursery where plants, shrubs and flowers, brought by the Conquistadors from the New World, could acclimatise to Spanish soil. Many of the plants here are the original specimens, delivered shortly after the opening of the garden. The centrepiece is a huge South American fig tree whose branches and roots have created an outlandish treehouse.

Next, a short drive brings you to the Orchid Gardens of Sitio Litre, which have welcomed many distinguished visitors including the famous crime writer Agatha Christie. These tranquil gardens are bursting with colour and have the largest collection of orchids in the Canary Islands. Here, enjoy tea or coffee with pastries and perhaps browse the shop.

Afterwards, enjoy some free time to explore Puerto de la Cruz at your leisure before the return drive to Santa Cruz.

Explore the Pyramids of Güímar, a complex of six terraced structures made from lava stones, before visiting the Basilica de Candelaria.

Leave the pier and head to the Pyramids of Güímar. The Ethnographic Park was founded in 1998 by the renowned Norwegian researcher Thor Heyerdahl. The site features a complex of six terraced, rectangular structures constructed from lava stones without mortar, which resemble step pyramids.

You will tour this ancient site before heading to Candelaria to visit the Basilica de Candelaria, the first Marian Shrine of the Canary Islands. Built in the Moorish-influenced Mudejar style, the basilica is home to the Virgin of Candelaria, declared the island's patron saint in 1599.

Visit the orchid gardens of Sitio Litre, see the ancient Dragon Tree, and the extensive collection of orchids before enjoying a refreshment.

Set off on a scenic drive through north Tenerife towards the Orchid Gardens. En route, you will pass through Oratava Valley, pausing for photographs at the Humboldt Viewpoint. Have your camera ready to capture the view here, which stretches from Mount Tiede to the coast of Puerto de la Cruz. The viewpoint is named after the explorer and naturalist Alexander Humboldt, who visited the island in 1799. He also visited the garden that previously stood on the site of what is now the Orchid Gardens, established in 1774 and the oldest on the island.

On arrival at the gardens, you will be welcomed by one of the owners who will act as your guide. In their company, explore the garden with its water feature, Dragon Tree, believed to be over 400 years old, and of course the collection of orchids, housed and displayed in a curving walkway. Past visitors to the garden include the author Agatha Christie and the prolific and celebrated Victorian botanical artist, Marianne North.

After your garden visit, take time to relax in the Orchid Gardens’ cafe as you enjoy some refreshments before returning to your ship.

Stargaze at a viewpoint in Cañadas del Teide National Park, perfect for experienced astronomers and amateur stargazers alike.

Join your stargazing guide as you head on a drive to the centre of the island through the Esperanza Forest. Pause at Roques de Garcia rock formation for a short photo stop before heading to the Parador Hotel for a coffee. While here, there will be a brief introduction and video projection before you head to the viewpoint to see the star-filled sky. Astronomy equipment will be provided for you to use to spot visible night sky objects such as planets, the moon, star clusters and distant galaxies.

Visit three locations in northern Gran Canaria on this half-day excursion - Bandama Crater, Village of Teror and the Duchess Gardens.

The tour starts with a 30-minute journey to discover the volcanic origins of Gran Canaria’s Bandama Crater, an extinct volcano which rises nearly 1,900 feet above sea level. Pause here for a short photo stop to admire the island view, before travelling to Teror, a local town with whitewashed houses, red-tiled roofs and ornate carved balconies. Stroll through the cobblestone streets and enter the Church of Our Lady of the Pine, dedicated to the patron saint of Gran Canaria.

Continue to your final stop at the Los Jardines de la Marquesa (The Duchess Gardens), where there are numerous tropical and sub-tropical flowers, plants and trees from around the world. Enjoy tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes here, before heading back to the port, making a photo stop at the Mirador Altavista.

Sit back and enjoy some of the sights of southern Gran Canaria at a relaxed pace, with time at leisure in the picturesque resort of Puerto de Mogan.

Begin by travelling south towards Playa del Ingles, the island’s main resort, where you will pause for a short photo stop to see the Maspalomas sand dunes with their rippling sands and sinuous curves. Next, head to a viewpoint overlooking modern Puerto Rico apartments built into the side of the hills that rise from the shoreline.

Afterwards, you travel to the resort of Puerto Mogan. This resort, with its backdrop of hills, white houses festooned with Bougainvillea and beachside promenade, offers a haven to enjoy some free time. During one-and-a-half hours of free time, perhaps stroll along the harbour, browse the shops or simply relax in one of the cafes before returning to Las Palmas.

Please note: This tour involves walking of up to approximately 600 yards, with any further walking during your free time in Puerto de Mogan at your discretion. If your visit falls on a Friday there will be an extended walk to centre of Puerto de Mogan from the drop off point. This drive involves winding roads and is not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo. The drive to reach the first viewpoint in the south of the island (Playa del Ingles) will take approximately one hour. The return drive to the ship from Puerto de Mogan will take approximately 45 minutes. The duration of this tour and free time can be affected by local traffic conditions.

Embark on a five-mile hike around the Bandama Crater.

The Bandama Caldera is one of the youngest volcanoes on the Canarian archipelago. Its crater is over 650 feet deep, has a diameter of almost three-quarters of a mile and was last active about 3,000 years ago, when a series of eruptions took place that gave the Santa Brígida district its distinctive topography. Leaving the pier, your coach will take you up towards the volcano.

Here, begin your trek along a green path that takes you right into the heart of the Bandama Crater. At the centre of the crater, you will see an abandoned homestead; this was formerly the only inhabited volcanic crater in the world! From this point, enjoy interior views of the crater which will reveal the effects of the eruptions. After resting for a while, continue walking up the side of the crater: depending on the weather, you should be rewarded at the end with a panoramic view of the northern part of Gran Canaria.

Then, rejoin your coach and transfer back to the port.

Please note: This hike involves continuous walking for around three hours, covering approximately five miles, over rough and uneven terrain that includes steep gradients to enter and exit the crater. See the towns of Arucas and Firgas before travelling to Finca Los Berrazales to sample coffee and wine.

Travel to the historic town of Arucas, see the Plaza de la Constitution and the impressive parish church of San Juan, where you will pause to take photos of the churches exterior. Then, continue to the picturesque town of Firgas, which has a long history connected to water. Today, an artificial waterfall flows down the steps in the centre of the old town, Paseo de Gran Canaria, providing a lovely place to walk.

From Firgas, you head towards The Finca La Laja and Bodega Los Berrazales, a historic farm over 200 years old, which is known for its wine, coffee and oranges. You can learn about their coffee-making and wine-making processes, and enjoy a tasting of both products.

Leaving Las Palmas, a one-hour drive brings you to the village of Teror. On arrival, set off on a short, walking tour with your guide. Enjoy an outside visit to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pine, considered one of the most important churches in the Canaries after shepherds saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary nearby.

Next, continue by coach, passing the town of Arucas, as you make your way to the Los Jardines de la Marquesa (The Duchess Gardens). Discover Las Palmas on a Tuk-Tuk journey through the narrow lanes of the old town Vegueta.

You will be picked you up right at the pier to begin your journey through the streets of Las Palmas. Your informative driver/guide will entertain you with captivating tales about the city as you travel through the narrow lanes of the old town of Vegueta.

During your ride you will pass Teatro Pérez Galdós, Barrio de Santo Domingo, San Juan, Parque San Telmo, Castillo de Mata, Castillo de San Francisco, the iconic church of San Nicolás. You will also have the opportunity to explore the bustling market stalls at Mercado de Vegueta and stop at the viewpoints of Altavista and Castillo de San Francisco before heading back to your ship.

Please note: Expect to walk 300 yards. The Tuk Tuk seats four guests, therefore if you book this excursion, you will be sharing the Tuk Tuk with three other guests. Please consider taking an additional layer of clothing as elements of the ride may be colder than expected. The step up into the vehicle will be steep and you must be able to board the Tuk Tuk unaided. The Tuk Tuks are small vehicles with compact forward and rear facing seating and the ride can be bumpy. Visit the Mirador del Rio viewpoint and Jameos del Agua underground cavern – both of which showcase César Manrique’s architectural talent.

The tour begins with a coach transfer to the north of Lanzarote to visit the Jameos del Agua Cave. César Manrique turned what was once a water hole in the earth’s surface into an inspiring volcanic cavern and exotic subterranean water garden, Jameos del Agua.

On arrival, you descend into the cavern via a winding staircase leading down to the underground, natural lake. This underground lake is slightly illuminated by the sun and is home to the blind albino crab, which are unique to Lanzarote.

After your visit inside the cavern, you walk along the volcanic path to the surface where you can see the crystal blue waters of the swimming pool, a backdrop for many visitor’s photos. Reboard your coach and head to Mirador del Rio viewpoint, located 500 metres above a cliff. This is one of the most unique architectural creations by César Manrique where you can capture a panoramic view of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago.

Before returning to Arrecife, enjoy a visit to an Aloe Vera Farm, tucked away in the village of Orzola.

Lanzarote has a fascinating history, one of its most notable events being the eruptions of the 1730s, when the volcanoes in the Timanfaya area erupted for six years and covered nearly a third of the island with lava. This volcanic landscape is revealed in Timanfaya National Park, also known as ‘Fire Mountain’, which will be your first destination after driving through the whitewashed villages of Puerto del Carmen, Macher and Yaiza.

Once at the national park, begin a tour of the craters and lava beds in this lunar-like terrain. Your guide will perform demonstrations to show the latent power of the volcano.

Afterwards travel through the Salt Planes to La Geria, where vineyards dot the landscape. Here, the vines are protected by semi-circular stonewalls, making them look more like art than agriculture. A stop here will be made to visit a bodega, where there will be the opportunity to purchase some Lanzarote wine before returning to the ship, with a short stop at the Aloe Vera Farm on the way.

Combine a trek through the valley of 1000 palms with a visit to Cueva de Los Verdes.

This excursion begins with a transfer to Peñas del Chache, the highest point of the island, where your trek begins. Leaving the volcanic landscapes behind, walk through the only forest on the island to reach a viewpoint offering views of Famara Beach. Continue down the path, through rich and varied vegetation, into the Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees.

Here you will discover another impressive viewpoint as you walk through the greenest part of Lanzarote. Reaching the charming village of Haria, reboard your coach and travel to the the Green Caves. These are lava tubes formed by the eruption of the La Corona volcano over 3,000 years ago.

Your guide will tell you how they were created and how they were used as a refuge by the island’s inhabitants when escaping in the past from invaders or pirates. Part of the cave network has been equipped with electric light, and one section has been converted into an underground concert hall.

This tour starts with a panoramic drive around Cádiz, the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain. The historic town centre is still surrounded by fortifications, dating mainly from the 18th century, and inside the walls it has changed little over the past 300 years: few buildings are more than three or four stories high, and the cathedral dome still dominates the city. Following your tour, proceed to a local ‘tablao’ – an Andalusian tavern – for an authentic flamenco performance.

Flamenco originated as the music of Spanish gypsies, incorporating both Western European and North African influences. Sit back and enjoy a traditional performance of its staccato, balletic dances, haunting ballads and fiery guitar music. While enjoying the music and dancing, you will be served wine and local ‘tapas’ – small plates of Serrano ham, cheese and Spanish omelettes. You can even try some flamenco dancing for yourself!

Discover the 'classic white' village of Vejer de la Frontera on a walking tour.

Vejer de la Frontera is situated between the sierras and the sea, perched high above the steep gorge of the River Barbate. Leaving the port by coach, travel through Cádiz and along the winding roads, climbing the tree-flanked hillside.

Arriving at the Spanish hillside town, see the whitewashed houses, declared a national monument in 1978. Join a local guide and enjoy a walking tour along the cobbled streets, lined with traditional architecture.

Afterwards, return to Cádiz and your awaiting ship.

The winery was founded in 1730 and consists of several vineyards, a winemaking plant, ageing cellars and a bottling centre. During your time at the winery, you are invited to tour the museum to learn about Fundador, credited as being Spain’s first brandy, before a tasting of three brandies paired with three different chocolates.

On your return journey to the port, you will have a panoramic drive through Jerez and Cádiz.

Arriving at Jerez de la Frontera, famous as the home of sherry, flamenco dancing and purebred Andalusian horses, visit the Fundador Bodegas to learn about the artisanal process of sherry making. While here you can taste a brandy and a wine. Afterwards, enjoy a short walk in the town centre before reboarding your coach for the return journey to Cádiz. Discover Seville on a walking tour and visit to the cathedral.

Seville’s history is punctuated by peaks and troughs: golden ages and a great plague which wiped out half of the city’s population. The architecture you will see during this tour is testament to both its past and present, including the largest cathedral in the world and a palace fit for a ruler – several, in fact.

After a transfer of approximately one-and-three-quarter hours, you will arrive in Seville. Your tour begins with a drive to Plaza de España – a semi-circular brick monument overlooking a small canal. Continue to Paseo de Colon and alight for your guided walking tour through the Santa Cruz Quarter. This neighbourhood, formerly the Jewish Quarter, is renowned for its charming squares.

Next, walk towards Seville’s cathedral, a symbol of Christianity’s triumph over Islamic rule: after all, the Christian holy place was built on top of the Islamic one. Gaze up at the tall minaret which has been transformed into the cathedral’s belltower and, stepping inside the cathedral itself, you will find high vaulted ceilings, 80 chapels and Christopher Columbus’s tomb. Gaze at the golden altar piece, which was the lifework of Flemish craftsman Pierre Dancart, taking over 60 years to perfect! You will then have the opportunity for some time at leisure to explore before returning to the ship by coach.

Visit Jerez de la Frontera, a city known for its sherry, equestrian traditions and rich Andalusian culture.

On this tour, you’ll have the chance to embark on a short orientation walk before exploring the city independently. Departing from the pier, a one-hour drive will bring you to Jerez de la Frontera.

On arrival your guide will take you on a short, guided walk through the historic centre. Learn about the legacy of Moorish architecture, the vibrant traditions of flamenco, and Jerez’s rich winemaking heritage. Along the way, stroll past key sights such as the Alcázar, the Cathedral and the Plaza del Arenal.

Then, you will have an hour and a half of free time to explore the city at your own pace. Perhaps you will choose to visit a traditional sherry cellar, admire the architecture, browse the shops, or simply soak up the local atmosphere at a cafe.

Having explored Jerez independently rejoin the coach for the return drive to your ship in Cádiz.
