Experience the Grand Canyon
It’s been six million years in the making, but the result is truly spectacular…
Carved over millennia by the mighty Colorado River, the Grand Canyon is one of the USA’s most iconic sights.
The South Rim offers some of the finest views of this vast natural wonder, with multiple viewing points offering sweeping panoramas on all sides.
Ten miles wide, one mile deep and 277 miles long, the sheer enormity of the Grand Canyon is what impresses you first. Then, as you look out across the chasm to the vertiginous cliffs, clefts and crags on the other side, you begin to notice the colours and the strata, the small trees dotted here and there, the blue sky above and the Colorado River a mile beneath you, snaking along the valley floor.
It’s a powerful sight, but for even more spectacular views you can take to the sky on a flight-seeing helicopter ride. Flying over the canyon is incredibly exhilarating, and from the air you begin to appreciate just how big it really is.
It’s also a good way to get away from the crowds, for a more personal experience of this strangely ethereal place. The photo ops are pretty awesome too!
