Visit the remains of this Roman Temple of Mithras. Mithraism was a mystery religion popular with the Roman soldiery, this temple being sited near a military settlement. Dating to the third century, you may also see the scant remains of a sacred well, while the altars are reproductions, the originals now in the Great North Museum which you will visit during your holiday.
