Cesme lies on a peninsula of the same name, its shores lapped by the Aegean Sea.

The area is known for its therapeutic waters and the name Cesme means 'spring' or 'fountain' in Turkish, which is reflected in the fascinating early drinking fountains of the old town.

Take time out to explore the impressive fortress, which now houses a museum. Further afield you'll find Izmir (Smyrna in classical times) with its wide, modern boulevards ideal for shopping, and the archaeological treasure that is the famous city of Ephesus.
