Day 1 UK-Jerez, Spain

Jerez de la Frontera, Spain

Fly to Seville and transfer to Jerez where you will stay for the next seven nights at the 4-star Sherry Park Hotel (4Q), close to the town centre. D

Day 2 Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Doñana

Horses race on the beaches of Jerez

This morning join a half-day orientation tour of the city of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, known for its sherry cellars and horse races along the beach. It is also the spot from which Ferdinand Magellan and his fleet sailed from in the 16th century to go in search of a western sea route to the Spice Islands of Indonesia. During your tour you’ll see the 15th-century fortress, the city hall, the Gothic-Mudejar designed Church of Nuestra sra de la O and the Palace of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia.

This afternoon enjoy an included cruise through the Doñana National Park. Make sure you're on deck – with your camera! – to enjoy the sights. The park contains a huge expanse of salt marsh which is an ideal home and breeding ground for a wealth of birds and wildlife. You could spot anything, from deer, wild boar and mongoose to the rare Iberian lynx, along with a range of birds, some migratory, including the Spanish imperial eagle. You'll also have some free time to explore independently. B, D

Day 3 Jerez

The Royal Andalusian Equestrian school, Jerez

An included guided walk this morning reveals more of Jerez de la Frontera, Andalucia's fifth largest city. There's plenty to see in this pretty city that was once a frontier of the Islamic kingdom. Fortresses were turned into palaces and churches into mosques as conquerors came and went.

Of course no visit to this historic city is complete without a visit to the famous Royal Andalusian Equestrian School, where you’ll enjoy an included show. This afternoon sample wine on a trip to The Gonzalez Byass winery, founded in 1835 by Manuel Maria Gonzalez Angel, where award-winning Tio Pepe is produced. B, D

Day 4 Seville

Seville, Spain

Today’s full-day included excursion visits the largest city in Andalusia, Seville, and begins with a morning walking tour. Among the city’s highlights is the Plaza de España, within the Maria Luisa Park – its large semi-circle of buildings fringes the park's edge and overlooks the pretty Vicente Traver fountain. Close to the walls of the plaza are beautifully tiled alcoves each representing a different province of Spain. Seville’s vast Gothic cathedral is the largest in Spain and incorporates the Orange Tree Court and Giralda minaret from the mosque originally on the site. The excursion continues this afternoon with a boat trip on the Guadalquivir River to show the city from a different perspective. B, D

Day 5 At leisure

Cathedral of San Salvador in Jerez de la Frontera

Relax at leisure or join an optional tour of the White Villages of Cadiz. B, D

Day 6 Cadiz and Rota

Historic sights of Cadiz

Look forward to exploring Cadiz, one of Spain’s oldest cities with roots going back to 1100BC. A port in Roman times, today it is home to four busy harbours. Cadiz is a city of distinct parts, with the open aspect of its waterfront contrasting with the alleyways and squares of ‘El Populo’, the medieval town. A guided walking tour will reveal monuments and interesting buildings, including the old Watchtower and the handsome City Hall. This afternoon head to Rota on the opposite side of the Bay of Cadiz on a relaxing boat trip that also includes a guided walking tour of the town. The most obvious highlight here is the 13th-century Luna Castle. B, D

Day 7 At leisure

Sherry barrels in Jerez bodega, Spain

Spend the day at leisure or join an optional boat trip to Marbella. B, D

Day 8 Jerez-UK

Travel by coach to the airport for your return flight to the UK. B
