Puerto de la Cruz (La Paz)
Puerto de la Cruz is a world away from more modern resorts with its historic buildings, including its oldest – the Customs House (Casa de la Real Aduana) – which dates from 1620. Welcoming travellers since it was founded in the 16th century as the port for La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz’s fortunes increased around the turn of the 20th century when it became a popular spa retreat with the British upper class. Among the many attractions are the Lago de Martianez seawater pool, the cafe-lined promenade along Avenida de Colón, and the fertile parks and gardens such as Playa Jardin, beautifully landscaped with plants that thrive in the subtropical climate. Due to its position on a promontory at the foot of the La Orotava Valley on Tenerife’s North West coast, Puerto de la Cruz receives less rain and more sunshine than the rest of the north of the island to sustain lush vegetation its abundance of gardens.
The harbour remains a centre of activity with brightly painted fishing boats bobbing on its surface and berthed on the pebbly shore.
Food stalls line the side of the harbour wall serving wonderful, traditional Canarian food and filling the air with the succulent aroma of paella as it sizzles in a giant pan next to the fish-laden tables.
Icod de los Vinos

Steve and Tina Holes
Steve and Tina fell in love with dance together, training at a dance academy in Southampton. Participating in numerous competitions, the duo became the World Over 45’s Latin Champions in 2012 and won the British Over 50’s Championship five times. After turning Professional they won the Italian Open Championship and were finalists in the Professional Over 40’s World Latin Championships.
Having now retired from competitions, the duo focuses their energy on teaching all ages and skill levels in both group classes and one-to-one lessons and hold their professional qualifications with the UKA. From dance halls to the big screen, the duo also performed as dancing extras in the film The Other Boleyn Girl, proving that dancing can take you anywhere, even back to the 16th century! In Steve’s words, dancing ‘is a great way to get out and meet like-minded people.’
