The Flatlands of the East

Distance: Four and a half miles
Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Walk a flat section of the coast from Punta Prima, past saltpans and the Alcafar Tower. Cut inland through gorges and gullys such as Rafalet, where evergreen holm oaks grow, and sheltered Cala de Sant Esteve and Binnissaida gorges, where trees grow tall away from the wind, to reach the islands most easterly point.

The North Coast

Distance: Seven miles
Difficulty:  Easy to moderate

Starting from Arenal d'en Castell, explore this flat northern section of coast. Walk to the dunes and wetlands near Son Saura beach, see salt cedars and pinewoods. Continue to Fornells' Port, a natural harbour that is part of a marine reserve. Continue on through marshlands near Ses Salines, to see saline ground plants and boggy vegetation and end your walk near the resort of Platges de Fornells, east of Cala Tirant.

Two Landscapes

Distance: Seven and a half miles
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Follow a winding path through one of the gorges towards the marshes that lie close to the beach. See wet and dry gorge ecosystems, look out for rock-dwelling plants at Calas Coves, also home to a necropolis. Then walk through typical Minorcan countryside and farmland, all edged with dry stone walls and dotted with wild olive groves . Drop back into a second gully and walk down to the sea at Binisafuller.

Minorca's Gorges

Distance: Seven miles
Difficulty: Moderate

Dubbed the gorge path, this walk takes you past some of the island's loveliest beaches, through marshes, farmland, dunes and woodland, as well as some of the more interesting gorges. These run from the island's central limestone plateau through its southern portion and create some diverse landscapes. In this section the path necessarily diverts inland to avoid the deep slashes in the landscape. High above sea level you'll see herbs such as rosemary and cistus – the rock rose. The gorges reveal plants that thrive in a rocky environment, and those that relish the cooler, darker, damper conditions at the foot of the gorge.

National Park Route

Distance: Six miles
Difficulty: Moderate

This coastal walk is within the boundaries of the Parc Natural de s'Albufera des Grau, an area blessed with great biodiversity. Start from Albufera des Grau, where a coastal lagoon connects to the sea via the Sa Gola channel. Look our for salt cedars – better known as tamarisk – and saltworts. See dune vegetation, sculpted by the wind and marshlands favoured by birds such as osprey and shag – Minorca is a bird-watchers paradise. Moving away from the coast to farmland where livestock graze, you'll see groves of wild olives and scrubland before returning to the coast and ending the walk at the rugged Cap de Favàritx, where a lighthouse alerts ships to the rocks.
