Captivating Norway

  • New New
  • A car with a tick VIP door to door

Fjords, Vikings and the famous Flåm Railway

The classic image of Norway is a tranquil fjord flanked by impossibly steep-sided mountains, and on this fantastic tour you’ll witness just that.

But you’ll experience much more as we cross the country’s wild interior. We begin in thriving Oslo, where you can learn of Viking ships, the art of Edvard Munch and the country’s folk history.

We visit the wonderful wooden Heddal stave church, ride the vertiginous Flåm Railway through epic landscapes and stroll through colourful Bryggen, Bergen’s historic harbour district.

Day 1 UK to Oslo

Our VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to Oslo.

You stay at Clarion Hotel The Hub (4*) or Scandic St Olavs Plass (4*).

Day 2 Oslo

Spend your day at leisure meandering amongst the city’s eye-catching architecture and abundance of world-class museums.

Oslo is home to cultural institutions that include the National Theatre and the Norwegian Opera and Ballet.

Alternatively you might like to delve into the past with a visit to the Vikingskipshuset, a museum housing impressively preserved Viking ships and a large collection of artefacts that were buried within them.

Day 3 Telemark

Today we embark on a guided excursion to explore the Telemark region, including magnificent Heddal, the most beautiful of Norway’s remaining stave churches.

We also cross the mountains to see Rjukan, a town that became the centre of one of the most daring sabotage missions in WWII. We visit the Vemork powerplant and the Folk Museum.

Day 4 Voss

Today we make the journey from Oslo to Voss by train on a scenic journey along the Bergen Railway.

This is considered one of the world’s most scenic train routes, carrying you across high mountain plateaux and capturing breathtaking views of the Hardangerjøkulen glacier.

Day 5 Flåm Railway

Today we board the spectacular Flåm Railway to Flåm. This 20km-long track is one of the world’s steepest and most spectacular railway lines, taking you through magnificent scenery of mountains and waterfalls.

On reaching Flåm, we transfer to the port for a cruise on the placid waters of stunning Aurlandsfjord and UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord - Europe’s narrowest fjord is contained within unbelievably steep mountains.

Day 6 Bergen

Our scenic journey today takes us on twisting roads, via popular Steinsdalsfossen and alongside the magnificent Hardangerfjorden, to Bergen.

Day 7 Bergen

Bergen was founded over 900 years ago by Olav Kyrre, King of Norway. The small settlement became a capital within 150 years.

The title didn’t last long but its location ensured it continued as an important trade city. We have an included tour of this modern city, taking in the important sites.

The afternoon is free to explore.
