Head to the beauty spot of Kanoni and take photographs of the famous Mouse Island and the small islet with the nunnery of The Holy Virgin of Vlacherna. Afterwards continue to the beautiful town of Corfu for a walking tour. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city boasts sights including the Old Venetian Fortress, the residence of the British High Commissioner, a splendid Edwardian building, completed in 1824 and once the Palace of the King of Greece. See too The Esplanade, one of the largest squares in Europe, the Venetian quarter of Cambiello and Corfu’s old town, featuring the 17th-century Town Hall, once a Venetian theatre and The Church of Saint Spyridon, Patron Saint of Corfu, whose Holy body lies within a crypt there. Day 6 Parga
An included trip reveals some of the most interesting historical and mythological sites in the region. Necromanteion is an ancient Greek temple devoted to Hades and Persephone. It is near the Mycenaean colony of Ephyra which dates back to the 14th century BC, and is the supposed site of the door to the Kingdom of Hades, the realm of the dead named after the Greek God of the underworld. After a tour from an English-speaking guide you’ll continue to the monument of Zalogo – immortalising the incredibly bravery of village women during the war of independence from the Ottomans. Your excursion concludes with a visit to the Acheron River, considered the best way to cool off in the afternoon amid beautiful scenery and a tranquil setting. B, D

Day 12 Corfu-UK
After breakfast, travel to the airport for your return flight to the UK. B
If visiting one country is not enough for you then perhaps opt to cruise for a day of exploration in fascinating Albania. After departing Corfu, sail along the Albanian coast toward the port of Saranda. After having your passports checked a local tourist guide will give you a tour of the city, which lies on the Albanian Riviera. An additional guided tour is available for those who wish to explore further afield on a coach, seeing unspoilt beaches and picturesque villages.
The highlight of your day will surely be the excursion through more than 2,500 years of history to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint. Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrint has been the site of a Greek colony and a Roman city but following a period of prosperity under Byzantine administration, then a brief occupation by the Venetians, the city was abandoned in the late Middle Ages after the ancient town disappeared under layers of silt and vegetation over the centuries. Archaeologists eventually uncovered one of the best remains of a working town in the Mediterranean, with an ancient theatre, gymnasium and a temple with a mosaic floor among the highlights. An Ottoman castle atop a hill offers panoramic views of the city, its nearby lake and the vast plains beyond. After returning to Saranda for an included lunch, you have free time to explore independently before your return sailing to Corfu.

BBQ Cruise to the mainland
Can you think of a better way to spend another sunny day than by enjoying a BBQ on a picturesque sandy beach in Kalamas, on the mainland. Cruise on a traditional kaiki fishing boat in the company of a knowledgeable local guide. After reaching Kalama’s sandy beach, Captain Akis and his crew will prepare lunch featuring grilled chicken or pork chop, salad, fruit and wine. Use the three hours of preparation as you wish - perhaps take a swim in the clear blue waters or flop on the white sands to top up your tan. Later this afternoon begin your cruise back to Corfu Town, stopping for around 20 minutes on the way back at the tiny island of Pontikonisi, where taking the chance of another dip is highly recommended.
Optional on 11 nights itinerary
Look forward to spending a whole day exploring the beautiful and charming city of Ioannina. Start at the castle, built in 528 AD and one of the oldest surviving Byzantine castles. It was once the largest administrative centre in the whole of Greece and the site where the great minds of ‘Tou Genous’ delivered their lessons and chieftains studied the art of war. The castle is made up of four parts, an outer enclosure, an acropolis containing an Aslan Mosque, another featuring a Kale and the old town of Ioannina itself.
Your tour continues to the famous Parnvotis Lake where an island in the middle houses an ancient Byzantine monastery which was the last refuge of the notorious Ottoman lord, Ali Pasha. Visit a museum dedicated to him before your return to the hotel.
