Three bars, two pools and first-class dining

Handpicked for its seafront position, your hotel invites you to relax a short drive from Limassol’s archaeological wonders.

With its extensive list of amenities and an enviable waterfront position, it is unsurprising that the locally rated 4-star Atlantica Miramare Beach Hotel has become a popular choice for holidaymakers venturing to Cyprus’s southern coastline. Twin pools dominate the hotel’s grounds – one of which features a swim-up bar – and when it comes to mealtimes, you can expect first-class dining.

Cyprus enjoys an impressive 330 days of sunshine. Where better to bask in the rays than the palm-fringed sun terrace, located a stone’s throw from the water’s edge and a short walk to the bar. When not taking a dip, taking in the views or sampling an extensive selection of beers, wines and cocktails at one of three bars, you can venture inland on two included excursions.

Cyprus sweets and wine

Today’s included tour is a feast for the senses, tasting your way through the countryside of southern Cyprus. You begin by exploring the cobbled streets of Lania, a beautiful village that has understandably produced an extensive list of talented artists. There are several free-to-enter museums in Lania. Next is the famous Rose Factory in the village of Agros. Several products are created using rose petals, and your visit will include a demonstration of how they are made. At the local smokehouse and traditional Jam House, you can sample smoked meats accompanied by a selection of unique jams made from different vegetables and fruits. Your penultimate stop on the included excursion is the colourful village of Kakopetria, located at the foot of the Troodos Mountains and surrounded by woodland and streams. These streams are home to plenty of trout, appearing on the menu for lunch to be enjoyed in one of the local taverns. On your way back to the hotel, drop into one of the area’s wineries for a tasting of Cyprus wines.

Paphos

Travel into Paphos where legend is exchanged for archaeology as you visit the ‘Tombs of the Kings’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This underground burial site carved out of rock dates to the Hellenistic and Roman periods and was the resting place of prominent citizens (but not Kings), with the decoration of tombs varying from those emulating houses to simple tombs. Afterwards, perhaps visit Paphos Castle (entrance fee applies) – also a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and learn about its fascinating history and Byzantine origins.

Choirokoitia - weaving memories

Away from the bustling beaches of Cyprus’s coastline is Choirokoitia, a village where local traditions continue to be passed from one generation to the next. Basket weaving is one such traditional past time. Local artist Petros Nicolaou learned the craft from his grandparents and today practices 13 different methods to create baskets vital for transporting goods such as bread, cheese and wine. At his workshop - located within the traditional Tochni family home – you can watch the master at work before trying it for yourself!

Troodos

Join this popular tour to enjoy spectacular views from the Troodos Mountains, as well as seeing picturesque villages where time appears to have stood still. There are many beautiful villages nestled on the slopes of the Troodos Mountains, three of which you will visit on this tour: Agros, Kakopetria and Platres. The village of Agros is famous for cultivating rose bushes which are used for rose water, a traditional ingredient in some Cypriot food and in beauty and skin care preparations. You’ll visit the Tsolakis factory where rose water is produced along with rose oil, rose tea, rose jam and rose soap. Here you will learn more about the history and production processes behind the sweet smell of their success.

Offering a real taste of authentic Cyprus, the rustic village of Kakopetria is one of the most beautiful, nestled in the Solea Valley. Traditional stone and wood houses line narrow cobbled paths, while old ladies sit on their wooden porches selling jars of sweets. Kakopetria is renowned for its delicious freshwater trout, which is served at a number of restaurants in the village, so a stop for lunch will be made here.

The final stop of the day will be in Platres, the largest resort in the Troodos Mountains, which becomes a ski resort in the winter months.
