Healing Nature Walk

Distance: 3 miles
Difficulty: Easy, over smooth terrain with an ascent and descent of 260 feet each way and 102 steps

Your walk starts beside the sea as you leave the town behind, before walking through countryside that will include a pine forest and a landscape dotted with drystone walls and cultivated areas. You’ll also take in a 19th English tower or ‘Forteca’, and Naplov – an area once used to collect rainwater. At St Antony’s Hill, climb the 102 step stairway lined with cypress trees to the top where you can enjoy views of the archipelago. During your walk there will also be opportunity to sit and talk with your guide about the area.

Hiking Tour to Our Lady of the Angels

Distance: 6 miles
Difficulty: moderate, over uneven terrain, with an ascent and descent of 524 feet each way

Your walk starts with a boat ride to the island of Kucište village, notable for its collection of large houses originally built by retired sea captains. From here you’ll follow some steep steps between the houses onto a the road, picking up a path again. Look forward to enjoying fine views of the Pelješac channel and islands. Arriving at the Franciscan Monastery of Our Lady of the Angels, take in views from the 15th-century church that also acted as a watchtower. From here you’ll pass Orebic cemetery – a burial place for sailors, before descending past vineyards to the shore at Orebic and your boat back to Korcula.

Mljet National Park

Distance: 10 miles
Difficulty: moderate, over smooth terrain with an ascent and descent of 780 feet each way

Your excursion starts as you step aboard a boat for a 30 minute transfer from Korcula Town to Mljet Island. This beautiful island perched in the Adriatic and a mere 27 miles at its longest point, is home to a National Park covering around a third of the island. Rich in flora and fauna and with two salt-water lakes, it’s a place of great natural beauty and the legendary refuge of Odyssus, said to have been shipwrecked here for seven years. Your walk starts as you walk round first the Small, then the Great Lake before heading up towards the Zakamenica Viewpoint which will reward you with views of St Mary’s Islet with its 12th-century Benedictine monastery buildings. From here you’ll walk to Montokuc Hill, accessed by a 830-foot climb along a forest path, rewarding you with fine views of the National Park and surroundings islands and peninsula as you reach the top. During your walk look forward to learning about the history of the island and the park, local legends and wildlife.

The Koce Fairyland

Distance: 4 and a half miles
Difficulty: easy, over smooth and uneven terrain, with an ascent and descent of 524 feet

Step into a magical world on this walk that starts from Korcula. After following a path dotted with vegetation, join a Napoleonic Road which passes through vine and olive groves for around one and a half hours. Next, enter a forested area whose landscape is dotted with a maze of large rocks, plus caves and forest plants, intersected with paths. Accordingly to a local legend, the area is also said to be the home of fairies! From here you’ll continue to Zrnovo village – one of the island’s oldest settlements with a charming backdrop of hills and sea views which you can enjoy as you descend to the town.

Lumbarda Vineyards

Distance: 7 miles
Difficulty: easy, over a dirt road with uneven ground

Step into the world of wine on this exciting walk that explores the vineyards of the Lumbarda area situated in the east of Korcula. This area is known for its vineyards where the local ‘Grk’ grape is grown, producing a dry wine with a distinctive flavour bordering on bitterness with high acidity. Your walk will take you up a hill offering good views of the old town before heading along one of the island’s oldest dirt road. Continue through a small vineyards area before walking through a dry valley whose dry, flat lands are home to vineyards and olive groves. During your walk look forward to enjoying a tasting of this regional wine.
