Overlooking the tree-lined, white pebble beach, this lively hotel has an attractive position on a coastal promenade, a short walk from the town centre's bars, shops, restaurants and excursion boats.
The bus station is approximately a 10 minute walk from the hotel entrance. Exploring is made easy thanks to the excellent transport links.
Split airport is approximately 90 minutes’ drive away.
The dramatic Biokovo Mountains guard this 60-kilometre stretch of coastline that’s etched with long sandy and pebbly beaches. The long stretches of beach here are considered to be one of the major attractions and are regarded by some as the most scenic of the Adriatic Coast.
The sweeping forested slopes protect dozens of seaside villages including the small town of Makarska, which has an excellent setting beside a horseshoe-shaped bay. Explore the narrow streets and markets, admire the 16th-century Franciscan monastery and discover elegant St Mark’s Cathedral in the town’s main plaza.
Inspired by vintage recordings of early American jazz masters, John Shillito borrowed an old cornet and started his playing career whilst still a Sheffield schoolboy. His successful career as a trumpeter, jazz musician and bandleader spans over five decades – he has played and sung at all the major UK festivals, throughout Europe, in Russia and South Africa, as well as in the birthplace of jazz – New Orleans.

This pretty resort is situated on the Makarska Riviera. Makarska’s old town is characterised by its narrow stone-paved streets, a main church square (with a flower and fruit market) and a Franciscan monastery that dates back to 1614. The basement of the monastery houses a Malacological museum that is believed to contain the largest collection of snails, seashells and mussels! Another of the main sights is the Parish Church of St Mark, which dates back to 1776. Most of the hotels in Makarska are situated just off the bay and have their own private beaches.
Included on 7 nights itinerary
This excursion takes you by coach to the stunning rock canyon of Cetina, one of the natural wonders of Croatia. The beautiful Cetina River and its canyon, nearby mountain tops and islands, ancient vineyards and olive plantations make up a landscape of great beauty.
You then continue to the historic town of Omiš, where you visit an old wine cellar.
The mouth of the Cetina River opens into the sea, at Omiš. The town is protected by ancient town walls, within which you will find delights such as the 10th-century chapel of St Peter.
Optional on 7 nights itinerary
Stay longer and see more
Make the most of your holiday with an extra week at the Dalmacija Sunny Hotel by Valamar. A dedicated Saga host will be resident at the hotel during your extended stay (please note there won't be a jazz programme during your extra week, or a jazz host).
This exuberant band, made up of veteran performers who have all been playing at the highest levels since the 1950s, will also perform ballads, vaudeville classics and pulse-quickening street parade anthems. John Shillito, who leads the band on trumpet and vocals, will also act as your jazz host.
Please note: the line-up of the band can be subject to change.
