Day 1 UK to Havana

After taking your VIP door to door travel service to the airport, fly to Havana where you stay two nights at the 5-star Melia Habana (4Q) in Miramar, a residential district known for its hotels and large mansions, most of which were abandoned at the time of the revolution and now house foreign embassies.

The hotel is surrounded by tropical gardens and offers five restaurants, a snack bar, three bars, a swimming pool and a fitness centre. There are 462 air-conditioned rooms arranged over 19 floors and served by lifts. All have a satellite television, telephone, tea and coffee-making facilities, hairdryer, minibar and room service (both extra charge). D

Day 2 Havana

Contrast old and modern Havana on an included tour. Enjoy lunch and dinner at a local restaurant, plus a Cuban cocktail lesson before dinner. Perhaps treat yourself to an optional Tropicana show this evening. B, L, D

Day 3 Havana-Viñales Valley

Travel first to Las Terrazas Nature Reserve, where you can explore and enjoy an included lunch.

Afterwards, continue to Viñales (117 miles, two hours and 40 minutes) where you will stay two nights at the 3-star Los Jazmines (2Q) or similar on a half-board basis. B, L, D

After viewing the Jurassic limestone formations, explore underground caves on an included boat trip, then visit a Cigar Factory in Pinar del Rio at lunchtime before an afternoon at leisure. B, L, D

Day 5 Viñales Valley-Havana

Return to Havana (107 miles, two hours and 15 minutes) and the Melia Habana (4Q) for a further night on a half-board basis. This afternoon join an included excursion which takes you on the trail of the author and Nobel prize winner Ernest Hemingway who made Havana his home for nearly 20 years. B, L, D

Day 6 Cienfuegos and the Bay of Pigs

En route to Cienfuegos (188 miles, four hours), pause at the Bay of Pigs and visit the Playa Giron Museum, which tells the story of the 1961 attempted military invasion of the island by American-backed Cuban exiles.

Day 7 Cienfuegos

Enjoy an included tour of the UNESCO-listed seaside town of Cienfuegos with its peninsula occupied by 1920’s mansions, and beautifully preserved French colonial heart.

You can also look forward to a boat trip, before lunch in a local restaurant. B, L, D

Day 8 Trinidad

Visit the historic town of Trinidad in central Cuba. Trinidad forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to cobbled streets lined with pastel-coloured villas, a 19th-century cathedral and a museum. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. B, L, D

Day 9 Cienfuegos-Santa Clara-Cayo Santa Maria

Head to Cayo Santa Maria (113 miles, three hours). Stop for lunch at a local restaurant, and visit the final resting place of Che Guevara en route.

Spend three nights on an all-inclusive basis at the seaside resort of Cayo Santa Maria at the 5-star Melia Cayo Santa Maria (4Q). This seaside resort hotel is set next to a white sandy beach. It has a choice of restaurants and bars, two outdoor freshwater swimming pools, spa and fitness centre. The 360 air-conditioned rooms have a television, telephone, safe, minibar and hairdryer. Day 10 - 11 Cayo Santa Maria
